On the plus side, I’m glad the seller saved these from the dumpster. Low quality is better than no quality.
I understand why collectors who view books as investments only want high grade books. But as a collector who enjoys reading his comics, this collection is in the kind of condition that I’m looking for. Reader copies rule! It’s an important comic that you can read without fear! What’s not to love?!
Btw Gary, I love that you showed the seller and discussed the origin of the collection. Please do that more when you can. So many fun characters and stories in the comic community.

You would love my local comic shop then. It's pretty messy and there are a ton of reader copy books. Along with new releases and current books. You always find something there.
As a collector who seeks out battle damaged keys such as these, I know they will find loving homes somewhere. Save the keys.
While it is crushing to see comics in damaged condition, low grade is still better than no grade. These reader copies will go to the fortunate collectors looking for the stories. Thank you for making them available to the comic community!
First Stained Glass comes with a stain...seems like an enhanced variant. ;)
The damaged books look like exactly what I dig through dollar bins for. Old ones with damage don't bother me, because i'm not a reseller.

Wow, that was kind of heartbreaking! I have most of the books you showed, brought off the shelf. (I'm old!) They, too, have been stored all over the place. My friends shed at one point... 🫣
Thankfully, they were always bagged and in comic book boxes. None are high grade (I read them too much 😊), but definitely not as bad as those.

Rocket Raccoon first appeared in Marvel Preview #7 (1976), a b/w magazine, in the back-up feature "The Sword In The Star" (the main story in this issue did indeed star Satana).
As a comic book lover thank you for saving those books. Better not very good shape than lost forever.

I always say I've got lightweight copies of heavyweight books. LOW GRADE BEATS NO GRADE!!
That first Bullseye does hurt. Will be great for whoever picks it up off Whatnot. Huge key
"Heartbreaking" was exactly the word I said to myself when I saw those two Star Wars' #42 copies. I love that issue just for the beautiful Al Williamson art, regardless of the first appearance. But then all of these Bronze Age books are right in my zone so it's sad to see all the damage. But still far better to see them even as reader's copies than in a dumpster.

A good lesson in how to store and where to store the books.
It’s heartbreaking to see some of that damage on these beautiful titles. Somehow one hast to discover a way to repair these books and away that would be acceptable.
It's a cleaner's dream collection...on the cheap potential to Frankenstein/Clean.

I guessed 900 bucks.... 75-85 is my era of comics
I buy low grade books all the time. It’s the best way to get some skin in the game. You just patiently wait for a good deal on an upgrade. I have a coverless Avengers #1, it was the only copy I could afford at the time. I can pull it out of the bag and read it without having to worry about damaging it.

Great books Gerry but sucks they where are messed up. Well I am looking for my last few books AMS#316,AMS#601, Resident Evil #1,Chew#1,TMNT#1, Primer#2,Hulk#181, X-Men#1 1963, Amazing Fantasy#15 and Batman#1 1940 then I am done collecting comics so I am going to save up and get as many of those books as possible then call it done cause I already got 4 short boxes full of Keys, Low Print Runs,Rare Variants and cool covers.
I can smell those books from here.

Disregarding the condition, Still a great collection
I have some of those books in my collection minus the stains and water damage. I didn't board all of mine but they have only been read once and are bagged. I'm thinking about selling my collection plus I have a long box of first issues of Image comics. I would love to see you do a video on Image comics because other than Spawn not a lot is ever said about the rest of the line. Great show but sad to see the condition of the books.
