I only partly agree about victimisation of idols. Yes, the big group have good treatment. But a lot of them live in small dorms, practice very long (10+ h) even after debut, don’t get money and need to pay debts. So it’s not always that easy. There are groups you would think live good because of big living space (eg Loona) but they still don’t get money. Kpop contracts are still problematic! Also life- work balance is really really hard.
The company pay's for the trainees housing, vocal and dance lessons, food and other personal items for 2 to 5 years, you know how expensive that is? regular people work 8+ hrs a day sometimes 2 jobs sooo how is it unfair?

I'm a former fan and I was one for 9 years, before being bullied out of the fanbase by some immature teenage 4th gen fans who believe they get to make out everything for everyone. Hearing all of these, I actually am glad I'm no fan anymore. I still listen to K-Pop, but only to songs that give me nostalgic feelings (which were released between 2007 and 2016). I'm glad I'm no longer engaged into the fan culture, because the way K-Pop is being destroyed today by immature toxic fans makes it less exciting to even be a K-Pop fan. The unfortunate about this is that people make comments towards you like ''this isn't an airport, you don't have to announce your departure'' (but still complain if you haven't heard the newest releases, like when BTS ARMY attacked Niall Horan when he hadn't heard Dynamite) or ''you're a fake fan/you're irrelevant'' (something that was thrown at me so many times by so many immature fans, in particular BLINKS and EXO-L). The thing about the fanfic has me conflicted. On one hand, I understand that if the idols were to come across these stories and read them, they could be a bit embarrassing. And if fans are maybe writing them to purposefully to cause a stir or damage an idol's rep, then yea they are problematic. But on the other hand, they are just made up stories. Fans are using them as a way to, I guess, live out these fantasies they have. And they understand that they are just fantasies, and they are just having fun writing stories and sharing them with fellow fans who are interested. They should be free to do so. And if you don't like them then don't read them. Stay off the fanfiction sites.

I'm a former fan and I was one for 9 years, before being bullied out of the fanbase by some immature teenage 4th gen fans who believe they get to make out everything for everyone. Hearing all of these, I actually am glad I'm no fan anymore. I still listen to K-Pop, but only to songs that give me nostalgic feelings (which were released between 2007 and 2016). I'm glad I'm no longer engaged into the fan culture, because the way K-Pop is being destroyed today by immature toxic fans makes it less exciting to even be a K-Pop fan. The unfortunate about this is that people make comments towards you like ''this isn't an airport, you don't have to announce your departure'' (but still complain if you haven't heard the newest releases, like when BTS ARMY attacked Niall Horan when he hadn't heard Dynamite) or ''you're a fake fan/you're irrelevant'' (something that was thrown at me so many times by so many immature fans, in particular BLINKS and EXO-L). Oh well, keep destroying someone's love for K-Pop. Soon, no one internationally is interested anymore.
I just think it is their hobby, so they just pick on idols for fun and guilty pleasure.

I think one of if not the most annoying thing about kpop, is the fans themselves when they say "x idol needs to be educated on x culture!" When the majority of international kpop stans don't even try to understand Korean culture

The thing about the fanfic has me conflicted. On one hand, I understand that if the idols were to come across these stories and read them, they could be a bit embarrassing. And if fans are maybe writing them to purposefully to cause a stir or damage an idol's rep, then yea they are problematic.
But on the other hand, they are just made up stories. Fans are using them as a way to, I guess, live out these fantasies they have. And they understand that they are just fantasies, and they are just having fun writing stories and sharing them with fellow fans who are interested. They should be free to do so. And if you don't like them then don't read them. Stay off the fanfiction sites.

I agree with this video but here's the thing about cultural appropriation, if kpop is going to expand to a global market they NEED to be sensitive towards other cultures. The Danielle situation is not an example of cultural appropriation but rather cultural insensitivity. But we can't tell someone who was offended how to feel. She apologized let's move on.
But back to cultural appropriation...as kpop expands these companies need to make sure they hire global ambassadors or something to make sure these things simply don't happen or keep them to a minimum. I hope we never see idols use black face again or use religious figures as props. South Korea has things they are sensitive to as well so if they want ppl to no trigger them then the effort goes both ways.
