There’s nothing I like more than watching someone work who is really good at their job. I don’t care what line of work it’s in. It’s incredible to think that every tree on every load they produce gets drug up behind that skidder.

We’re in same boat. Both our 234’s have 20000 hours on them and all our chipper are on their last breath. It’s hard to find several hundred thousand laying around though so we’re just making do. Great vid!

Breakdowns are what finally put me out of business. I liked my old truck so I just kept driving it till it was starting to break me. I decided to trade it off but the cost of even later model used trucks had gone up so much I couldnt trade. You either have to upgrade every 3 or 4 years or you get left behind. Good luck Tim.

Now that's what I call a really rough week for you all what with big breakdowns, little in the way of output and income AND I guess your looking at some massive repair bills!!
    Best wishes.

We had the same problem on a 280 prentice knuckleboom, first the turbo, then a piston. Machine and engine had 19k hours on the clock. Bought reman 5.9 from local cummins dealer and it failed in 1200 hours. Tore down the motor and 3 cylinders were bored .050 and other 3 were stock, rod failure from imbalance was the cause. We ate the $8500 for the reman plus overhaul cost. Be careful when y'all purchase an engine for that tigercat. Good luck from east TN!

Skidder engines live in a tough environment. The heavy pulling lugging them down is so much harder than in a cutter or loader! 10k plus is pretty good. The first 635 my boss had came with an 8.3 Cummins but it wasn’t turned up anymore than the 6.7 that came later. It did burn more fuel.

I ran tracks on the front wheels of my JD 648, definitely soaked up a lot of power, also wondered how much more strain it put on my running gear, I mostly was pulling wood away from my yarder so I was on a haul road or fairly flat skid trail, those tracks slowed down my turn time.

I would work on getting a 6.7 block overhauled and ready to drop in, you’ll have to throw your injection pump and front cover on it if you use one from a truck, couple other things, may be best to just get the correct application ready and on a pallet, waiting on a rainy day , should be a quick swap.,

Does the seat you sit in turn or swivel so when you need to look behind you you don't have to break your neck to try and see? Is it hot up in the cab of the machine? It’s even tougher when you have a nice new piece of equipment broken down, AND a big fat payment to make, keep your stuff duct taped, and bubble gumed together, alway be on the hunt and ready to pull the trigger when something to good to pass up comes along, the absolute worst time to buy equipment is when yours is broken, it becomes way to important to worry about price, or even some expensive problems., I think I would have a look at that Cummins and make sure it’s blow by .. and not something else, check egt’s with a temp gun,

If you look at the property tax ramifications insurance and risk to your company long term buying new only makes sense because you want new .
