Took me about a month to take down my 230 locs. I would cry and shave my head if it was sisterlocs
Yes girl that last day I was taking my locs down, before my appointment, I was ready to cry so bad 😂😂😂
My 1st set was only about 140 so i just cut em no ma'am lol my current set is about 230
how was this process for you? i have ~165 and it's taking an hour per loc!
For this to have been traumatic for me I Stat watching all of yalls videos of the loc take down 😂😂😂 obsessed ugh!!obsessed 🤪 ugh!!!
I'm literally taking down my 20-year-old sisterlocks as I'm watching your videos and I really like how you waited till you had a lot of new growth before you took them down. How many months of new growth was it? I feel the same way girl I'm just ready for something new! people keep guilt tripping me but I can't live for them anymore and I have to do what's best for me. It's crazy how obsessed some people are with others hair like they forget it grows back.
It was about 2 years of new growth. It wasn’t really by choice but I’m glad things played out how they did. & yesss people will definitely guilt trip you! And I felt you so heavily on living for me, that’s something I’m currently working on.
@@mahoganiej 2 years, omg that's some patience forreal! By any chance did you experience any thinning? I got like 3 months of new growth and I worry about my edges as they're so fragile when they're loose and needs to be retightened. I'm starting to detangle my locs starting from the back to disguise it as I go. I also wear a satin ribbon to hide my new growth. What section did you start taking down first and how did you manage your new growth throughout those 2 years?
@@mahoganiej I'm currently trying to figure out my removal plan. How did you style your hair daily while allowing it grow out for 2 years? Any suggestions/tips will be appreciated.
Wow, and I thought I was the only one who experienced the guilt tripping! I thought it was just the ppl around me who were being extra and a bit annoying but seems as if this is a common thing, smh. Anyways, like you guys said, it's just hair and it grows back🤷🏽♀.
I admire your determination! I took down my fist set of micro locs after only 10 months. I had around 330 locs and It took about 2 weeks. I almost instantly regretted it and started a new set about 2 months later. This time I have over 500 and they’ve been in over a year. I would NEVER AGAIN sit and undo all these locs! I’d sooner cut it all off and start all over again! 😂
Yea that definitely was a one time thing for me! 😂. I had some help from some friends but the hardest part, I finished on my own. If I get locs again, I’m going to try dreads.
I got sisterlocks in 2019 and cut them off a year later 😅😅 now my natural hair has gotten long enough for me to be irritated with it and I’m ready to get them installed again 😂😂
I've been on the fence between getting sisterlocks or just continuing to rock my diy mini two strand twists (ppl always think I have locs). This video helped me realize I'm not ready for the commitment of actual locs yet so glad I watched 🙂
Just took down my sisterlocks. 345. About three and a half weeks to take down. Had them for 3 years. Reason for take down: postpartum shedding. Have accepted this new journey. Stay at home mom. So had some time on my hands to take them down. Was a crazy experience. Hands are cramping. Little painful. Wanted to scream many times while taking it down. Such a tedious process. Spring twist braids, here I come. Protective styling, here I come. Ms. Wig, hello!😅 growing my hair back in grand style. I decided to comb it out because I did not have enough growth to cut out and I did not want a low boy cut. Wanted to retain some length enough to be able to braid as protective styling. Need enough hair on my scalp on this journey. So boy cut was a no no
I took my first set of SL’s down because they were bigger than I’d wanted.
NEVER AGAIN😂😂
I’m rocking my 2nd set now and will not be taking them down ever again because :
1.) I’m too dayum old now😂 and
2.) After having just about every hairstyle imaginable and growing my loose curls to mid-back length, SL’s was just the most versatile and easy to care for and lets me show off my length without damage.
I do have 1 SL that came down in the back when I reupped my locs and I left it loose just to give me the satisfaction of still seeing my beautiful loose curls but without me having to tend to a full head of them again.
Glad you made the decision for you.💙👍🏾
Yea if I get sisterlocks again, I definitely won’t be taking them out ! 😂 I looooveeee my locks but did not want to live the rest of my life thinking “what if..” you know! I definitely see myself getting locks again in the future but I want to enjoy something different for now.
@@mahoganiej
I hear you, we all got to have our own separate experiences.💙
Omg thanks for making this video 🥹 I’ve had my microlocs for 12 months now and my scalp is getting irritated easily due to reties so I was thinking of growing them out and then cutting it off. I have about 3 inches of new growth on my shoulder length locs. Watching your video has motivated me to have patience and comb it out instead of cutting it off. thank you 😊 you’ve got a new subscriber💗
I’m glad I could motivate you! I know you’ll make the best choice for you! Welcome to the family 💗
I took my locs out after 6 years of having them...I thought I wanted something different and that I missed my loose hair...after 6 months I regretted that decision ao much. I'm now starting again with microlocs
I definitely miss mine sometimes. But sometimes we have to go through periods of change to realize what we really want and I think that’s absolutely okay. If you never tried taking them out and new hairstyles, you would never know what it was like on the other side.
That's my worst fear lol I'm 10 years in the game but I always had long hair as a kid so I want braids again
This is so real! I finished taking down my sisterlocks about 6 months ago. Had them for almost 4 years. I just started going stir crazy and curious about my loose hair again. I also had lint in some places and little shed bulbs of hair in my locs. Those bothered me so much at the time but I literally could’ve dyed my hair lol. At the end of the day, I’m glad I did though. I’m pretty much getting locs again but I’ll get e neater grid this time. And I want them a bit larger, around 200 or so. That way palm rolling will be an option and maintenance won’t take so much!
Please use conditioner or curling cream because if you don't it can cause breakage
Mahoganie girl I am literally combing my locs out NOW!!!!! Love the name btw
I love your hair with the Locs and braids 🥰
Faux locs grew my hair an inch in a month all I did was spray rosemary essential oil on my scalp. Yes I did it without the hairstyle and it grew slower. I’m so happy
❤ About how long did you let your hair grow out before starting the takedown process. You had A LOT of new growth! I’m about to take down my daughter’s 8 year old micro locs. I think I like this transition method.
What was your hair regimine while you let your hair grow out? Did you do Deep conditions, oil your soap, etc? My last retie was in Jan and I plan on combining mine out due to thinning. The ones that are thin now I will be combing out now before the break off to the scalp.
How did you wear your hair in between the 2 years to cover it up?😮 Sorry if you have a video on it that I have missed.
❤your brave with patients. Good job. Sheesh lot of hair left.
Stg u so beautiful with and without yo locs
Aww thank you!
i just finished my mini braids takedown after a year of growth, cant imagine locs. never again.
You saved a lot of locs i hope you kept them you can get them put back in
My name is Mahogany too, and I’m combing out my locs😢 pray my strength!😅
You took those down fast and mine aren't that long or that small and I guess I'm lazy with mine I just start Friday Nov. 12 2022 and back at it Sunday the 13th. Thanks for video are u gonna keep locs? Just in case u want them back or sale them?
Taking your locs down are such a task, I was determined because I didn't want to go back to school looking crazy lol. But I do still have my locs. I think if I decide to get locs again, I'm going to try dreadlocks.
I love your braids. So cute!
Thank you!
Your hair is Beautiful 😊
Why ppl reattach them anyway. So go for it. You can always attach the hair that you have after chopping for the bob.
Wow. It will grow back soon.
Can’t wait!
How long did you let the middle grow out to have that much new growth? I want to take down my microlocs
Looks good either way ❤
Thank youuu 💗
I'm new to this so just trying to understand. I believe you answered someone question about how long it took for you to grow out your hair, and you said 2 years. So that means not one retie for 2 years, right? I've seen locs hanging on for dear life after a few weeks how did you manage that just curious not questioning your decision.. I may got what you meant incorrect.
I’ve had my locs for a total of 10 years and had just recently cut them into a bob. But my middle and back was going on 2 years with no retightening. I guess my hair was just thick enough to survive that long 😭. Going that long without a retightening wasn’t in the plan I just was struggling to find someone I could trust with my hair since my mom had been keeping up with them beforehand.
Damn them locs look nice
I didn't have to cut any of my locs and I retained all my length
How? How did you remove them?
@@dena1471 I wet them with water and conditioner and took them down just like braids
That’s what I’m doing. I’m also paying someone to help. I have 394 locs that are long. How long did it take you?
@@dena1471 a week
I've had Sisterlocks for approximately 4.5 years and some of my sealed ends have unsealed and are coiley on the ends. Has anyone experienced this? Everyday I'm finding more and more locs that are unsealing and coiled on the ends. What would cause such a drastic change to hair that was sealed for almost 3.5 years? I'm wait until August and then try and comb mine out to minimize hair loss.
How long it took to take out?
I'm still tryna get around understanding how interlocks can be combined out. Don't they loop inside the new growth? I watched you take out a loc and I'm still trying to understand lol
They do loop inside of the new growth. It’s like I was just combing out the small knots. I watched something and they said all locks can be taken out.
What tool are you using?
combed out my locs with a special tool and retained sooo much of my hair 😅
Do you mind saying what tool you used?
@@RikaCurvesForDays sure if was the push pin! Honestly I had very minimal shedding from it.
@@Atropicalaffair how long did it take?
@@essisarah5181 10 days
I’m combing mine out and I’ve had a few locs lose a lot of length and some completely retained length… did you have various lengths?
I really couldn’t tell if they were different lengths so to say. The back was the same length and the front was the same length. Front shorter than the back because I cut it while combing out the locs. I was more focused on just getting them out lol.
Did u have split ends on your hair after combing them out?
Yes! I got a silk press and trim but I also believe I still may have some split ends, I don’t think she wanted to chop a lot off.
Baby u got patients I couldn’t. I’m applying Microlocs soon nd I don’t think I will ever take them out. But I hope u love your results and I wanna know did you get use to not having them in.
I’ll definitely have to make an updated video on life without my locs lol. And you’ll love your locs, I loveddd mine!
@@mahoganiej thanks can’t wait til you upload your new video and I’m so excited for my new journey your locs were beautiful. The length and the health was very inspiring😊
Your locks were so beautiful! It dont make since to comb out your locks to put weave in your hair.
Thank you! Everyone has their own opinion on it. I did what was best for me in my life right now.
I'm just saying sis. Not trying to judge, but inform. Us a black woman have to stop putting other people's hair in are head. Especially if you dont know where it came from, or the process it went through before it got to you. Do you know that they sacrifice there hair to there gods before it gets processed and sent to you. Look it up, it's on youtube. Do you know that THE MOST HIGH says not to put it in are head. I get it sis I was once a slave to it as well, until I found out the truth. The slave masters use to make the slaves wear them, because they couldn't stand the sight of their hair.
Watch the movie "bad hair" on youtube, very informative. Sis and again, just trying to inform.
@@roinnney8171 was I talking to you👂🏿!! Aww, I didnt think so.
Reupload ?
Yes! I uploaded in low quality so I reuploaded 😩
@@mahoganiej thank you
What was the #1 reason why?
I was curious about what I could do with my loose hair.
It short for 10 years

Here’s where I cut my butt length locks into a bob, before combing them out.
