      @@ChristIsLord7 Except in this case, he didn't involve a conversation about our Faith at all. Rather, he told the guy you don't have to be religious to hold the POV that premarital sex is wrong. I love Trent's videos. But in this case, it seems like he's telling people it doesn't matter if you're religious or not, as long as you hold that premarital sex is wrong. I don't see how that's spreading the Faith. But maybe I'm missing something.

  • @amberjulia123
    @amberjulia123 2 місяці тому +31

    Society, nowadays, is unfortunately setup in such a way that it basically guarantees premarital sex. Back in the day - you stayed living with your parents until you were married, marriage was made to happen (expected and encouraged) shortly after becoming sexually developed, and courtship & engagement didn’t last for years on end. All of this assisted in protecting people against premarital sex and putting them into the least amount of temptation possible.
    Nowadays - you leave your parent’s home at 18…it’s expected (and encouraged) that you don’t get married until you are at least 25…and once you meet “the one” you are supposed to date them for at least 2 years (to make sure) and then have an engagement of at least 6 months so that the grand wedding preparations can be made. Not to mention, just having the ability to drive and work at 16, and in a society where socializing outside of school without parents present will inevitably put teens into tempting situations.
    The best comparison I can think of is with a form of sugar, like a chocolate bar. Lol. Back in the day, no one could experience sugar until they married - and parents put the sugar (or candy bar) into a cage with a lock on it. To access the sugar, you would need to be very deliberate and sneaky and steal the key from your parents bedroom. Nowadays, once you turn 18 - your parents give you the cage AND the key and you move out of their house with it in tow. Honestly, what are the chances that at some point…you are going to open that cage yourself? It’s sad but it’s true. We, as a society, have set up a system which encourages failure in this area and makes success nearly impossible. Only children coming from strict and loving parents, and who also marry “young” (by today’s standards) and don’t prolong their dating and engagement will succeed.
    I only know 3 couples that achieved this. One couple is now divorced because the husband has same sex attraction (so waiting until marriage wasn’t even a temptation for him), the other couple dated their last year of highschool but didn’t go to the same high school and the daughter’s father was present during every date and interaction and they got marriage the summer after graduating high school (they are still married 30+ years later but are now swingers)…and the last couple met at age 40 & 30 and got married THREE months later (they are still married 15 years later but they both came from divorces and previous relationships where premarital sex DID occur so they weren’t virgins).

      Sad those are the only couples you know. Miraculously, my husband has 2 siblings. All three of his parents' kids were virgins when they married virgins (One spouse I suspect was not but he and his wife stopped kissing 2 months before their ceremony to make that one kiss special). I have a friend who was a virgin when she married a divorced father. I have friend set who has 18 kids who married as virgins. My teenage kids are waiting until marriage.
      One commentor here said his wife remained faithful to him from birth and it's one of his biggest regrets he didn't wait for her. The non-amish/non-menonite communities like this are out there.

      @@iyaayas I agree that it’s sad that these are the only couples I know. However, I do think I’m correct in stating that nowadays, if you are a virgin when you get married…you are the EXCEPTION to the norm. Whereas back in the day, if you WEREN’T a virgin when you got married…you were the EXCEPTION to the norm.
      The reasons why this flip has happened stem largely because of the changes to our societal structure. I mean, back in the day - you didn’t even need to be religious or come from a religious family in order to be a virgin upon marriage…because society was setup in such a way where that was simply likely to happen regardless of religious beliefs…because the society at large was formed around religious values and technology hadn’t yet enabled sex without consequences and women generally weren’t left alone because of that.
      Nowadays, even religious people are very likely to not be virgins on their wedding day because they are surrounded by a secular society in which sex is basically handed to you on a silver platter…and you can EASILY “get away with” having sex and literally NO ONE EVER discovering that you did. So the public risks involved aren’t even there anymore.

      It's true that modern society sets people up for failure, but that failure doesn't have to involve premarital sex. It also includes a large and ever-growing underclass of undesirables who manage to preserve their virginity for all the wrong reasons. The notion that nobody is a virgin because avoiding premarital sex is impossible is a load of nonsense: It's actually very, very, very easy not to have sex if nobody is asking to have sex with you.
      If you dig into the statistics, you'll find that the youngest cohort is having *less* sex than older generations did at the same age. Because most young Americans are too isolated, too online, and too saturated in pornography to bother with the real thing.

    One thing that struck me about the secular guy's argument was how flippant he was about the efficacy vs. side effects of birth control. This is a common trend I have noticed during years of conversations with guys who disdain purposeful abstinence. Most often, they will try the tactic of saying that birth control is "totally fine" for women and "super highly effective". Generally, these are the same guys who hate condoms, so they wish for the females they are being sexual with to take full responsibility for precautions. These guys also generally have zero desire to be fathers should a child be conceived so they are also fully in support of 'A woman's right to choose'. There is a very real and prominent pattern and as a woman, I find it disturbing.

      @@kyler9323 Sure. I was asking if you think that the act of adultery and fornication has actual spiritual consequences or that they are just God's way to guide us for a better lifestyle to prevent unnessesary suffering.
      An example would be that a couple having premarital sex with plans to get married has no observable consequences compared to someone having multiple sex partners because there are studies showing negative psychological effects by sleeping around and then try to have a long term partner. I hope my explanation was better.

    • @kyler9323
      @kyler9323 2 місяці тому

      @@S91761 Yes! I get what you are asking.
      I would say that fornicating many times with many partners is much worse than an engaged couple, for example, fornicating. Sure.
      However, I think that it is still a bad idea because the temporal consequences we want to avoid (baby with no father, and the emotional damage of having multiple sexual partners) is still a risk. Only the bonds of the marriage relationship (with vows of permanency, love, support, and exclusivity taken in public before the community) can sustain something as profound and consequential as human sexuality. In your case, you can "intend" to get married. You can have that trajectory, but until those vows are taken there is no bond and you could change your mind on a whim. The stakes are too high to be left to the inherent instability that exists in any relationship before marriage. Now of course this logic entails divorce and remarriage being terrible. It is adultery and attempted polygamy and it is devastating to all involved, most especially the kids. I would advocate for separation, if abuse etc. is present, but no-fault divorce is especially awful. But a culture that divorces and remarries frequently doesn't have the internal coherence to oppose fornication since both practices lead to the same consequences, except the former involves breaking vows, which is an additional evil.
      Regarding spiritual consequences: I would say yes there will be spiritual consequences to any fornication. If God has decided, in His wisdom, that fornicating is a sin (even if some fornicating is worse than others) then what would a friend of God do? Honor His wish (which accords with the design of human nature and leads to happiness and human flourishing) or ignore it? In Catholicism specifically, having grace in one's soul and being a child of God involves friendship with God. Hard to see how one could be God's friend while purposefully and knowingly flouting God's loving and wise commands around the most important areas of human life. So being at enmity with God would be a spiritual consequence of fornication. That is why in the Bible fornication is listed as a damnable sin.
      I know this is a hard truth and one that few are told (even by Christians!) and that in our culture there are a lot of conflicting views, but I think this matter is of such importance we should share the truth, but in love and with understanding and compassion. I hope that helps!

The human sexual drive is second only to our survival instinct and it’s really tough to convince someone coming from a completely different moral basis of the Christian ethical view of premarital sex. In the end, it’s probably more fruitful to present the full moral case based on religious values and hope to grab people who are open to it, but I still think that making the case to people open to having the dialogue valuable. The pill with perfect use is about 99% effective, meaning that in a year, 1 out of every 100 women on the pill gets pregnant. This might not sound like alot. It is only a 1% chance! But that translates to 600,000 unexpected pregancies for women on the pill in the US each year, even with perfect use. (Interestingly, there are about 1,000,000 abortions a year in the US as well.) If you were to use the pill for 15 to try and stop pregnancy, there would be about a 3/20 chance, or a 15% chance for you to get pregnant. over the course of 25 years, which is long, but not impossible, you would have about a 1/4 chance of becoming pregnant. Would you own a building if there was a 1/4 chance of its collapse over the course of the next 25 years? For the record, in civil engieering, buildings are designed for a risk of about 1/20000 percent chance of failure within a year, so that there is a 0.5% chance of failure within the next 100 years. That is what safety looks like, not like the pill or condoms.

    This kind of dialogue is great, both are listening to what the other person is saying and there’s no “this person destroys this other person” in the title haha.

    Great video, Trent! It seems that you have an approach to evangelization in which you appeal to natural law and tell people that you don't have to be religious to, for example, believe that abortion and pre-marital sex are wrong. I wonder if you could explain how an approach where you tell people they don't have to be religious to have good morals could eventually convert people to the Catholic Church? Is this a two-tiered approach, where phase 1 is getting people understand the concept of natural law, and phase 2 is getting them to see how natural law feeds into Catholicism?

    I came here from whatever and I can only say I am blessed to have been able to find this content. Missionary work is to be done on the fringes of society, where no one expects a Catholic to be.

    19:15 "... I don't think it's the majority of women ..."
    It's a common enough trend on social media for women to post *Before --> During --> After* pictures/reels where you can see how obvious the damage was from the birth control. This guy is coping.

      There are quite a number of studies coming out that show how birth control, UIDs, etc are affecting women’s bodies for the worst. One cites how BC can alter a woman’s desire so that things like smell can cause her to no longer enjoy her boyfriend’s/SO’s company. Mood changes are also very common, and if they get off BC then some have trouble conceiving or even have cancer markers.
      Not to mention the residue chemicals from BC that are extracted from her waste, flushed down the toilet, and hits the water processing plant. Most plants cannot block or neutralize those chemicals, so there’s a high likelihood of those BC chemicals making their way back to faucets/pipes and leaking into the environment where species like fish and frogs are changed because of those chemicals.
      Long story short, yes, BC and UIDs do have a big effect on women. Those who are honest will admit it while other women may be too embarrassed to say anything out loud or are drowned out by the “experts” like what happened with Brett Cooper talking about the negative effects of BC.

    This guy is frustratingly irrational. I'm truly sorry for the lack of intellectual honesty reigning his world. I also don't know why anyone would take advice from a "dating coach" that isn't even married. He literally has not achieved success in relationships yet. "Hook up coach" might me more like it, and I highly doubt he knows how to attract sane women.

      @@brendansheehan6180 The meaning of sex is what you assign to it. Some sex ends up in pregnancy, some doesn't, some happens between people married in a catholic church, some between people married in different christian church, some between people married in a holy place of different religion, some between people married in a secular ceremony, some between unmarried people. You clearly decided there is a difference between those types of sex, so why couldn't some of it have a meaning and some be meaningless?
