The Elton John Song The Beach Boys rejected

Chameleon from Elton John's 176 album 'Blue Moves'. The song written in 1974 was sent to The Beach Boys but was rejected. Elton John performed the song live at Wembley in 1975.
Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys and Toni Tenille of Captain and Tenille who toured with the Beach Boys sang background vocals.

WOW!!!! Never knew The Beach Boys had rejected a song from Elton John. It’s a beautiful song and remember when a very good friend of mine purchased this album when released. He listened to it day and night. Informative vid Jamie, be well.

I'm wondering if the reason it was rejected is because The Beach Boys wanted to sing their own material and this song didn't fit into their new so called image. That's my guess.
