- Renowned American musician and co-founder of the Beach Boys Brian Wilson reminisces to when Sir Elton John paid him an unexpected visit
Coming to UK cinemas 21st January - available to own and rent internationally from 21st February.
Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is a deeply personal documentary that explores the life and career of Brian Wilson, the legendary songwriter and cofounder of the Beach Boys, through a literal and metaphorical road trip across Los Angeles, Brian's hometown. With Rolling Stone editor Jason Fine behind the wheel and Brian selecting the music, the two revisit many of the periods and locations integral in shaping Brian’s life.
Incorporating fascinating anecdotes and interviews with a diverse set of musicians that were profoundly inspired by Brian’s musical legacy, including Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jakob Dylan and Taylor Hawkins, the film also features over 50 of Brian’s most iconic hits, rare tracks, never-before-heard demos, and his own personal home movies and photo albums.
With honesty and humor, this intimate, unconventional, and deeply revealing portrait of one of rock & roll’s most legendary - and most enigmatic - icons, explores The Beach Boys cofounder’s life in music, his struggles with mental illness, and the daily rhythms of his life.

I just want to see Brian happy. He's fought so many demons and gave us such incredible music he deserves to be happy.
We love you Brian
Saw the Beach boys 4 times in the 70s. First time, Billy Joel was the intro act. No one knew who he was. The Beach boys did encores til nearly midnight with Billy Joel joining on the piano. Wonderful memories.
Wow, that 1st time was what year and where?
Brian Wilson is my the best I have the utmost respect and admiration for him
Nice to see Elton put on his best Primark tracksuit for the interview.
It's probably made by gucci and costs $1000s but could pass for Primark
I was thinking more asda vibe
😂😂😂😂
He looks so ridiculous in the track suits.
Incredible artist, I deeply connect with his most personal songs
Brian has a good memory. Layers of surprises if you get him going.
"Our heroes led us by the hand thru Brian Wilson's promised land."
- Postcards from Richard Nixon, 2006
Die hard Elton fan here. ❤️🎹
"Brian Wilson tried to sell me his piano that night [during the meet up]." I will definitely in the awkward zone if that ever happens.
My three California great pop harmony composers of the Sixties and Seventies: Brian Wilson, then John Phillips, then Richard Carpenter.
Don’t forget, Liberace ‘
1:10 This just ticks me off. Brian did NOT try to sell Elton his piano. Elton WANTED to buy the piano Brian wrote Good Vibrations on, but Marilyn said NO. And the smug grin on Elton's face...
Pretty sure this is just a light-hearted joke
"Smug"? Calm down. Elton is one of Brian's biggest fans and supporters. He goes out of his way to praise him whenever he can, which brings a lot of attention to these projects for Brian. And you know what? He doesn't need to, considering the fact that the average person knows his name way more than they would Brian's (I say this as a gigantic fan of Brian). It's just a fact.
Brian sounds like Bill Murray these days.
Brian is the best of us! He’s so sweet, humble and beautiful. What an amazing person!
Sly and Brian wow!!!!
Those who shine brightest, often burn fastest.
I suspect if "Daring" Danny Hutton was involved, there was plenty of marching powder around 🤯
eltons memoir talks about visiting brian wilsons house
Thanks
Man why does this guy talk to brian like he's 5.
Well, you can't fault the results -- Brian's a tough oyster to open.
Because he has mental problems and gets scared easily. You can see him playing with his own hands in a repetitive manner which looks like self-stimming behaviour to calm himself down. The whole point of the documentary is to be informal and get around how easily he gets anxious.
You must not have experience talking to elderly people who are tough to crack and might have suffered mental issues, he does a great job at making Brian feel comfortable to open up
@@Gears1Fan there are countless other interviews with brian cool as a cucumber
I know, the guy creeps me out 😳
