The narrative on so many issue is so important to him because he desperately like a lot of us wants to be seen as "good", wise or knowledgeable. No matter how wealthy and powerful controlling the narrative on issues is, as an individual is dangerous v.s. what most people do namely, react to it once it shifts. The problem is trying to control it for a single person right or wrong leads only to ridicule. As culture has always hated people with intent to control entire groups without representation and the appearance of democracy at least.
The X algorithm was completely overhauled is now open source. It proves no one controls the narrative. No more censorship. That was the whole goal behind the acquisition.
