Man, winter lasts a lot longer in the frozen tundra that you live in. My father-in-law has three or four Kimbers and loves them but they are all higher end models. Personally 1911's do not fit in my XL hands well for some reason. Keep up the great videos! Thanks to you I checked all fo the smoke alarms in my house for a low battery!

Great review Ed!!! I bought a higher end Kimber in 10mm and experienced the same issues but little by little it began to break in over 300 rounds. Unfortunately, it remained semi problematic with ftf issues so I polished the feedramp, chamber and slide rails and after 200 more rounds it is much better, but still not carry reliable. My hope is that over the next several hundred rounds, it will be completely broken in. As frustrating as it is, the gun feels and shoots great.

Hi Ed... I have the same exact Kimber as you and I had feeding issues with factory ammo. I began reloading my 10mm but the only difference I made was I shortened the OAL to 1.255 instead of 1.260 . I have not had a feeding issue since. I also switched to the Wilson mag and it helped some with the factory ammo but works perfectly with these reloads.

Similar hangups with one or two rounds FTF each mag. Frustrating, but I knew about 10mm 1911's having this problem. Thanks again for posting this!
Thank you and your welcome. I really want to like this 1911 but its not even close to 100% its about time I take it out again and run another 50-100 rounds threw it and see how it does. I'll probably get a better one sometime down the road.

There is an extractor tensioning tool to set it up correctly, but it works also if u just take it out and and bend it in the right direction to make it stiffer or looser. also the geometry on the extractor hook is important. if i remember correctly for 45acp the extraction tenson should be 24-27lbs, doubt 10mm will be much different. U definately should take a look at brownells and order the weigand combat extractor tension gauge. it consists of brass shims which simulate a casing, and with the help of a trigger pull gauge u can slide the shims next to the breach face and pull it out via the trigger pull gauge. that way u get a mostly correct reading on the lbs required to pull the case out of the extractor. adjust your extractor tension to specs and u should see a great aid in reliability sorry for bad english, im from austria :´D
I owned about 14 1911s, everything from Colt to Wilson Combat in mainly 45ACP and 9mm. I've only had one issue with one of the Kimbers when it did the same thing with slide lock during firing. After eliminating all the probabilities, ( thumb, magazines, throat, ejector, etc), I found out it was the slide release. The rounds (nose of the bullets) in the magazine would hit the slide release and cause a slide lock. I stoned the slide lock magazine trip angle slightly so it does not touch the round. It solved the issue. Just place a full magazine with ammo in the frame only with the slide release installed and check. That would eliminate the slide release possibility. Just stone a little with a coarse stone, a little at a time ( about 3 strokes) and dont change the angle.

Hey big ED! Have you polished the feed ramp and opening of the chamber? I do that with all my handguns. I have the Ruger in 10 mm, and have not had problems with it. It's a feed ramp issue plain and simple. Out of the box Kimber makes a tight gun they like to stand on that... but tight guns required tuning and that's where the problem is... I live in commiefornia I wanted a 10mm... Kimber was not my first choice I could not get a Springfield trp operator 6 inch long slide.... the Kimber 5in 10 mm is legal here so I watch some videos of the issues bought one took it straight to a good gunsmith with lots of experience with 1911 immediately went to a quality magazine polish the feed ramp double checked all the clearances and angles... this gun now works like a dream will eat any ammo I put in it ...I have never had a misfire or a failure to feed 3 years strong now and I shoot quite often... it's a kick in the balls to buy something at that price point and have it not work... I didn't send it back to Kimber because honestly I believed my gunsmith would do a far better job getting it right... I have a Glock 20 and a couple 1911 45's and when you switch the barrels or buy aftermarket Improvement barrels. and things hang up it's because of that feed ramp being brand new and the brake angle being too sharp... My gunsmith says quality magazine 1st, feed ramp 2nd, don't ever make a spring adjustment before those two issues are addressed, It's never a good idea to add force to something that's binding up in a gun... The Kimber is simply an off the rack assembly line product and if you want to trust it with your life develop a relationship with a good confident gunsmith the things they know will help you on your next purchase... a little long-winded I know but I hate to see people struggle...👍

Great comment! I'm getting ready to sell my Kimber. Looking to buy a Dan Wesson 10MM 1911 for $1,700 should have done this from the start with the cost of 10MM ammo.
I just bought a kimber target 2 for $1500. I am so worry about this and about your review. Good grief. I have 2 10mm glocks and they are cheap and have never jammed.
Try either the Ruger SR1911 Bull Barrel 10mm @ $844, or the Dan Wesson Razorback. Both are excellent shooters . Although the Razorback is around $1,300, it's still their lower cost entry level Dan Wesson. Both are worth every penny with No teething issues !... As for the Remington R1 Hunter 10mm, I found the Fame to Slide Fit to be very sloppy, uneven in fit, and having a lot of side to side movement.
Alright, I have a better idea on how to manage my gun, if I find issues with it. I bought a used Rock Island Armory online, and chances are someone sold it to get a better gun. If changing out the magazine is all it takes, then I'm in a pretty good position. I know it has a 20 pound spring in there as well, and I can try changing that out, if there are still issues.
If your looking for an affordable 10mm and you want reliable and don't want to spend $1,000+ on a 1911, Glock 20 or 40 all the way not a fan of the Sringfield and they have terrible resale.
@@biged7175 Thank you for the response. I'll have to handle a Glock when they exist again. Nothing but empty shelves as far as the eye can see in my region.

@@d.sandell2555 I called Kimber and got a RMA number to return it. I'll send it off tomorrow, they said on the phone there's only a year warrantee, I was surprised....
@@biged7175 Lol yeah.. I'm pretty sure your UA-cam page had something to do with that. I hope they get that squared away for you.
By the time you break that in ( if you do) I wonder how much you will have spent in ammo? That’s too bad. What happened to Kimber?
I like the Dan Wesson I could see myself buying one in the future.
Been looking for a 10mm. I think I’m going to go with the Springfield.
I would pick up a Ronin unless you wanna spend big $$$$
Alright, I have a better idea on how to manage my gun, if I find issues with it. I bought a used Rock Island Armory online, and chances are someone sold it to get a better gun. If changing out the magazine is all it takes, then I'm in a pretty good position. I know it has a 20 pound spring in there as well, and I can try changing that out, if there are still issues.
My Kimber has a 24 LBS wolf main recoil spring working much better I would say that the way to go.
I almost bought this one. Reliability is a primary importance to me, so thanks for saving me the cash. Maybe the XD(m)?
If your looking for an affordable 10mm and you want reliable and don't want to spend $1,000+ on a 1911, Glock 20 or 40 all the way not a fan of the Sringfield and they have terrible resale.
@@biged7175 Thank you for the response. I'll have to handle a Glock when they exist again. Nothing but empty shelves as far as the eye can see in my region.
Either I got lucky or Kimber has addressed these issues...maybe you got a bad apple? My custom ii has about 200 rounds through it with no hiccups. Hopefully it stays that way
I'm guessing I got the bad apple.
Verygood kimber 10mm
It's a shame. I was looking at getting a 1911 10mm and would expect alot better from a company like Kimber. I have a Glock G40 and have yet to have so much as a hiccup from it. Thank you for the heads up.
Have you checked extractor tension? I have saved myself and others money that would be spent on mags and break in ammo by adjusting extractor tension. I have seen Kimbers with too much tension from the factory.
Interesting idea concerning extractor tension. I have not but works much better now with full power loads. Watch this follow up video.

this is cool!!!!
Thank you Lucas have you subscribed to my channel. Watch the binary trigger video.
I own the same gun, it is unreliable and now just a blinking gun. Save your money and get something reliable.
I just paid 1599 for this gun in California.
Ouch!
969$ in 2022
Wow that's good coin.
