- New Live Steam Mill Engine with Flyball Governor. SOLD
Sometimes referred to as a Box Bed Engine.
This is my fourth fully machined and assembled mill steam engine from castings. Including cross slide, flywheel, eccentric, piston and rings, and all moving parts for the engine. The bore is 3.00 inches with a 4.00 inch stroke. The overall length of the engine is 36" the width 18" and the height 23 inches. One of the features of this engine is a flyball governor. The flywheel is 15" dia. The complete engine weighs 150 lbs. I estimate the hp at 3 to 4 depending on boiler pressure. The oiler and valves are included. It runs at 375 rpm wide open. Using the pulley you can step the rpm up to run a sawmill, dynamo or a alternator.
Shipping by Fastenal freight has saved about half the cost of normal LTL freight haulers.
The table and steam hoses in the video are not part of the sale.
Super cool. Precursor to the modern internal combustion engine. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent job,I'm working on a Carrier & Laine pre 1873 disc crank 6x6. It's made in Levis Quebec Canada not much is known about these engines.
I do not allow advertisements on my videos. While viewing my UA-cam videos do advertisements come up?
nice centrifugal governor.
What happened if there is no flyball governor?
I notice that it wasn't in governing range, as you were regulating the speed with the input valve and the balls never moved. Just curious, any reason for that? Like safety concerns with getting the speed that high, or insufficient steam pressure -- or it simply hadn't been adjusted yet? (I Just remembered you said in the video it was the first run, that probably answers it actually)
Very nice body of work. What type of paint do you apply to you boilers?
How much horsepower equivalent is that?
I love engine
Hi Ross, I see that your Governor does not have the safety cut off to kill the steam should the belt break. I installed a Pickering with one on a “static” (no steam) Little Giant Hoist (6 x 6 Vertical) display and it appears that the governors safety cut off arm/pulley will not function as is. The arm hangs straight down and would not contact the belt running from the main Governor pulley to the crank wheel. Maybe the Governor is designed for a mill engine. Are governors designed specifically for horizontal and vertical engines? I don’t see a way to reconfigure this one so it would work with my vertical engine. Tks, Bbq
what kind of oiliers do you use?
