    Checkout these brass governors at Banggood.com.
    In this vid , I demonstrate two different model flyball steam engine governors.

    Microcosm P60 Mini Steam Engine Flyball Governor Part Accessories -- bit.ly/2ZArXCx
    Later, I used my DEWALT battery drill--it worked much better.

    My friend was just talking about someone repairing the governor on his gas lawnmower. My friend is a good mechanic, but even he didn't know about speed governors. I intend to send him your video.
    Nicely done!

    I have been interested in everyone of your videos that i have seen. I wish i would not have been so hard headed and started watching youtube when you started making these videos. Instead i started this youtube journey about a year ago and I only discovered your channel a couple of months ago. You must have been a extraordinary shop teacher.

    I do really like the way how You teach your knowledge to people. Always clear and understandable, with a proper method that brings your class to get there by listening, watching, asking and, mainly thinking. It's always a pleasure watching your videos. I live in London (UK) in a sad flat. Looking forward to move somewhere else (larger and quite for God sake!!) and buy myself a lathe and a milling machine to have fun again. That satisfaction in watching works getting done is incomparable. God bless you Tubalcain, keep going!!!

    Good morning. These governors are simple but beautiful, and genius in design. I would like to see them in a real practical application with a steam engine. I first saw governors like these but on a larger scale being used on Jay Leno’s show. Nice mechanics!

    I saw one of these at a local show installed on a model engine. Unfortunately it was just screwed in for looks and not steamed. They are the neatest thing since sliced bread! He allowed me to hold it in my hands and inspect it, turn it and even drool over it. I agree with you, the machining is over the top and holding one all I could say was "you paid how much, is that all!?!" It would be wonderful to see one installed on an actual working model. Thank you in advance if you can.

    Mr. Pete,
    I’ve always been fascinated by steam governors. Just watching them spin to regulate the valve captures me. I watched Dave Richards channel awhile back where he was restoring an ancient governor. Seeing him dismantle the thing was awesome and then his solution for replacing the flat springs was genius. Dave doesn’t always go with what’s “according to Hoyle”. He does what works for him and his steam powered shop.
    According to the number of comments it looks like your gonna have to bite the bullet and get that three ball going “balls out” on one of your models.

    As a boy, vacation time was always mixed with museum going. A one of them, possibly the Ford museum in Dearborn, MI, I asked my Dad "what’s that ?", and I’ll never forget him saying: “That’s a governor!”. Thanks for the video, loved it!!!! Also… glad to know that Banggood of China produces some quality stuff, at a reasonable price.

    I bought the 3 ball design from Banggood, the components are all first class, yet I considered it a kit. I drilled out both steam ports to enlarge them and tapped and installed a larger bronze valve seat on bottom of spindle. The 4 screws and holes can be reattached in any position. I carefully cut the spring out and installed another that was more sensitive. There were many trials and errors in this process but I got it all dialed in and have it mounted directly on top the steam chest of my Stuart No. 9 it is now a fine working governor.

    • @mrpete222
      @mrpete222  5 років тому

      That is all very good information and thank you for it. That is good to know, as I am sure I will need to modify it. It's interesting that you have it mounted on a number nine with Stewart. I thought the opening seemed mighty small

    Great video Mr. Pete. I designed and built two hit and miss engines starting with two old air compressors (vertical compressors) utilizing

  • @MrShobar

    I wonder if those small governors can actually provide any operating stability to a model engine at all. Typically, a governing element in a feedback loop must be carefully matched to the overall system to avoid instability of the entire system. Matching would include not only the dynamic characteristics of the governor (the flyball dynamics) but also the operating characteristics of the valve.

    • @MrShobar
      @MrShobar 5 років тому

      Instability, not "integration". If it runs without any real load, there is no need for a governor at all.

    I think you should make a governor that's a little bit larger and revisit the variable DC motor powered drill press project. Instead of opening and closing a valve, you could have the yoke drive a gear rack that would turn up/ turn down the speed knob of the DC motor controller.

    Please do install them on a small engine. I have the 2-ball one, and it works great, but finding a good drive belt is difficult unless you remake the pulley to use a wider flat leather belt. Also, the gears can be really loud if you don't carefully allow a little slop in the shafts to "absorb" the vibrations...they are an excellent value, but they have their quirks.
