  • The last week of June is DeafBlind Awareness week. Deafblindness is common in peroxisomal disorders, and this is an opportunity to bring awareness and educate others in your community. One of several ways the GFPD helps educate others about deafblindness is through a deafblind simulation at the Family and Scientific Conferences. In 2022, both the South Carolina Interagency Deaf-Blind Project and Kentucky Deaf-Blind Project provided equipment, such as earplugs, and simulation goggles with varying types of vision loss. We are grateful to Nancy Steele, Krista Olsen, TVI, and Donna Carpenter, Ed.D. for leading this hand-on simulation to educate and raise awareness about this unique and low-incidence disability of deafblindness. Did you attend a deafblind simulation at a previous conference? Share your feedback in the comments below!
