    UPDATE: Looks like everything is working again with the coupon and code. Amazon did it infamous "seller substitute switcheroo" when RAVPower ran out of stock, and was sending folks to a 3rd party that of course didn't honor the coupon or discount code. Buyers please VERIFY you are purchasing from seller "RAVPower" and no other!
    RAVPOWER on Amazon: amzn.to/2YQm84o use code RAVPB187 for discount!

    I absolutely love my RAVpower USB power banks. The QC 2.0 version is 5 years old now, and was the first thing I ever owned with a USB-C port. Because of that port, both the QC 2.0 and 3.0 versions are still relevant with my new USB-C phones. This was a nice first effort, and if there was another USB-C PD port, it might be really good. USB charging for small capacity devices like this should be the standard.

    Wow, this really is basic but has more than I would ordinarily need. I started carrying power with me back in 2002 to a cabin built by me and some friends in the woods. You can get that idyllic image out of your head, it was a nice version of a kids fort. We used either candles, a lantern or headlamps for light. I bought a $10 12v dome light with integral button switch from an auto parts shop and installed it over the table we had with a wire running to the floor with some spade lugs on it. This was all planned to work with my existing power source, a 12v 7ah gel cell battery I would charge at home. We would all arrive in the evening where it was still light where we parked but ten minutes into the woods it was darker and the cabin interior would be about black. So by the time we has the wood stove going, cracked a beer and started thinking about dinner we would need headlamps to prepare it. So then, "click" I turned on the light and everyone could see what they were doing. It was amazingly better for everyone. It's funny but as more of an observer at meal times back then, I remember watching 2-3 people prepping dinner in a dark cabin, headlamps like searchlights sweeping a city-scape looking for... survivors of the machine wars or... whatever. But with an overhead incandescent light it was a warm "homey" feeling like a home in the wilderness.

    Non-regulated 12 volt outlet, no 12 cigarette plug, no 12 volt charging cable, 2 prong AC plug (what the hell?), no digital display, no thanks. And Jackery does have a 36 month warranty if you register it (they give you an extra 12 months on top of the 24 months it comes with). But what really sells me on the Jackery is Will Prowse’s tear down of the Jackery power station and its superior build quality. But then again I do like the shape of the Ravpower a LOT better. Thank you for the review.

    • @clange50
      @clange50 4 роки тому +2

      100% what I was going to say. Too many of these do good in tests but have horrible build quality and questionable longevity. I'll take the slower charging and night and day difference in quality (better) components on the jackery. Edit: plus all the other negatives you said. I'd rather have charging cables and adapters and choose if I want to buy a case.

      Is a cigarette port that important?

    • @laronis
      @laronis 3 роки тому +3

      @@brittgayle467 For me it is the most important port. I run my 12 volt refrigerator, computer, fan, TV, lights, etc. off of the 12 cigarette port. I could run them off the AC outlet, but because of the power consumption of the inverter converting DC power into AC power, the battery would not last near as long. I use my power stations in my RV so power conservation is everything.

    Bought the Ravpower a few weeks ago mainly to charge my laptop with the 60 watt PD port, it works fine for that. Didn't care about the 12 volt port, I have two Jackerys and a Bluetti AC100 for that. For me it's easier to charge the Ravpower from the Bluetti's 45 watt usb port than setting up a solar panel. I also have the Beaudens 166 watt generator that takes the same 5.5mm cables as the Ravpower, it came with a good assortment of cables that all fit the Ravpower.

      Is that the one with the little 80w inverter? Got one of those in Japan cheap, with a handy carrying box. I got another one from the shop's own brand, which didn't have a case (and cost more!), but it's a "pro" model. I don't see what's "pro" about it other than the fan's more responsive and the battery indicators when charging it are complete fiction.

    For roughly the same amount on Amazon you can score the Rockpals 300w, which will get you a grounded ac plug, an extra 30 watt hours, faster solar charging than the Jackery, and from having one in my own van I can tell you for a fact that she can take a beating. Will Prowse talked me into getting one and I couldn't be happier.

    • @clange50
      @clange50 4 роки тому

      Questionable support according to amazon reviews (failures with claims of no response/support). There also appeared to be some no-name power stations with the same package/design, so I would suspect lower quality. Will removed it from his recommended list because of the apparent lack of support I believe.

    Technically, there is no ground on a portable power box, so there cannot be grounded outlets. Ravpower did the right thing. If you need a grounded outlet, you need to use an adapter with a ground rod pounded in, or some other adapter. That's the only safe way to do it.

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  4 роки тому

      Inverters on solar generators typically have fake grounds. Meaning, they have an open hole for the ground prong to go into. It's not any more or less safe as these are plastic boxes that can't be grounded anyway. By excluding this feature they screwed up. Likely a cost cutting measure.

    • @lyfandeth
      @lyfandeth 4 роки тому +1

      @@HOBOTECH A fake ground is a liabilty landmine. "Your honor, my client used a grounded device, how was he to know it was a deceptive non-functional ground?" Which is why OSHA and others talk about how to properly ground generators that often just tie the ground to neutral. A ground is still required, for safety. It isn't there for cosmetics. Many tools with plastic housings just use 2-prong plugs because they are intrinsically safe. Others really need a ground. Million dollar sucker lawsuit, I think RAVpower is being smart, and honest, to make sure that can't happen.

    Always baffled by the seemingly wasted space of the giant plastic handle on jackery products. Is it just empty space inside the handle or did they put some of the electronics in there? It’s nice to have a giant handle that doesn’t fold when you’re dealing with a really heavy power station but for something the size of a lunchbox every inch counts.

      None of these inverters have a true ground. It's just a relief (pocket) for the ground pin to go. There is no electrical connection. If there is room behind and adjacent to the existing receptacles, one should be able to drill a hole where the ground pin would go.
