A little late to the party, but I have to comment that for any weld (test or otherwise) you shouldn't ever burn off your tag end. The tag end is the end with the material identification stamp. There are many places where your weld will be rejected and potentially cut out if the filler material can not be identified. Other than that, great video, and thank you for taking the time to make this video. You are an asset to our craft. 👍👍

Your a really good teacher, I was taught by a bunch of old papermill hands , trial and error. If a willing student has your instruction and a good attitude you can surely get him/ her in the game.

I know that feeling of Heartbreakers, it just reaches the apex of the bend while you are looking at your beautiful work and then pop and it splits. Heartbreakers. Been in the business for a few years, started at 20 years old, still in it but retired. Have my own shop and do lathe and milling, 71 years old now so you do the math. But do enough of the welding exactly like you did and you can weld anything. I've been on jobs requiring 316ss. Purged every weld x-rayed and we ran miles of it. You get so good you are walking the cup and in your mine you are walking on a beach with a beautiful girl. Just becomes second nature. Doing a 6g weld is a little tuff but stay focused and you will make it. By the way you are a very accomplished welder, I like your technique. You will go far, just don't burn your eyes out. You would be surprised at the different ways that will give you eyeburns. One question I have, you make it a point to keep your tungsten sharp. Looks like your grind is about 5 degrees? I ground mine at 5. Kept a 1/2" threaded nipple capped with a couple dozen 2% thoreated tungsten in it on the job. Keep up the great work.

Good instruction and technique. I like to see different techniques. I find that the set up gaps tend to close up. My technique is very different but same result. I set up with a closed button then sink the root using 1.6 wire with amps about 60. Well done and good instruction.

i just want to add this up, to help pass the bend test you have to follow the WPS. you don't want your weld to become so hot cause it will become brittle. so even if your weld pass the RT there's a tendency that your weld will fail in the Bend test if your weld exceed the maximum heat that the wps required you to follow. if you notice that your weld specimen is so hot then stop and let it cool. that's why you have the tempil stick, infrared thermometer etc... I'm not an expert, this is just based from my experienced and hopefully will help others to pass. great video. keep it up. cheers🤘

they have me running a carbon with 309 6g of course 2 inch purging like stainless and it took me 9x to get it but now they are wanting to move me to electrical bc of experience I'm very passionate about welding and the only thing I've really done was stick I'm doing the best I can but my last weld today was damn near perfect and idk if they even want to let me test it I went to school for welding and I'm really rusty given life in the way and all, these videos from weld tube have helped me a lot in the past I'm praying they can help me now. they don't want to fire me but the number we agreed on was me saying idk if I can pass and now they want to lower that even more I just got back from new Mexico so I could be with my family and I know what I can make on the road as an AP2 I/E.
