I actually really like when you share your "explores". I enjoy history and since I am from the USA, British history is mostly new to me. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into "the old days".
I’m in Houston Texas and home is Las Vegas Nevada. I cannot tell you how much fun it is to see your Journeys on the canal systems in the United Kingdom. Thanks!
Nice Video. Back in my old playground area. Not sure what happened to Patricroft, the place I walked on water (mischievous school lunch hour in winter 87 or 88) and the Worsley section looked very clean, normally rusty red from memory. Now if you can do a little U-turn to go to the Chip shop in Lymm :-)
Brought back memories of being moored at Worsley and spending ages trying to rescue my Grandsons foot ball he had just bought on a trip to Old Trafford. Thanks as ever.
Have a look on BBC iPlayer for a 1972 programme called Nairn Across Britain. Episode 2 starts at Worsley and goes to Leeds by canal. Fascinating to see how the canals (and attitudes towards them) have changed. The presenter talks about how canals are just starting to be used by pleasure boats.
Nice video! Even though you just cruised through a few weeks ago, the weather was different enough to appear different. Holy Mackerel! That was perfect. Sorry Jo, but I had to do it. Just for the Halibut. Yes, you are right and I am sorry. I did it on porpoise. It is like a sickness! I can't resist! Great video! Thanks for bringing us along with you.
Nice video. We have our boat on a winter mooring on the Leeds & Liverpool so you must have passed us by now. I'm looking forward to watching your videos of the L&L
Congratulations Jo and Michael,l read in February's Tillergraph you were awarded The Silver Propeller for completion of the 20, you guys worked hard to get there, well done
Thanks, Jo, for the interesting information about the Worsley Delph. What a pain that you couldn't get onto the Rochdale! Here's hoping the revised cruise goes well for you.
ARGH! I thought the same "porpoise" and "halibut" jokes... and they hurt even more hearing them come from outside my brain! LOL The variety of areas you've passed through in the last 2 vlogs is amazing, everything from super-modern and highly industrialized & urban to some idyllic old-looking neighborhoods and areas with nice trees... really gives us an idea of how far-reaching & varied the canal network really is. (And you really missed a chance to play "It's A Small World" in the background while ID'ing all those familiar boats!)
Damn, you guys were heading to my old town of Marsden, the other side of the Stanedge tunnel. perhaps you could come at it from the Huddersfield side instead. Love your vids From Toronto Canada!
At least once you got out of Manchester proper, the number of moored boats dropped to almost nothing. Progress could thus be maintained without creeping at tickover for miles. Like many parts of the K&A, lovely though that is. I've had to get out my Nicholson 'Inland Waterways' map because, up till now I've been able to follow your progress on my 'mind map'. Jo's superb 'Beck Map' is hanging at the 'other' Enthusiastic Hire Boater's house so, reference my Christmas present Nicholson! Great vlog, because it makes the 'slings and arrows' of canal cruising very real and that, for us poor land locked lubbers, is what it's all about. Thank you, as always.
Really nice vlog the delph looks really interesting and the packett house looks wonderful ,just love a timber house . If I may draw on your experience does the Bridgewater actually join the trent and mersey or just run parallel ,it's very unclear on my guide and wanting to head over the leeds Liverpool and make our way down to Braunston when closures come to an end . Cheers for the entertainment guys hope your crisis all worked out as well as possible.
@@MinimalList thanks Michael that's great . Not sure about the river weaver ,had a couple of nasty experiences on the calder and hebble late last year that some what rattled our confidence as far as rivers are concerned ,thanks again and all the best with this years cruising .
Lovely, thankyou. Worsley Delph very interesting and very pretty - makes me want to see it myself sometime. Lovely Autumnal quality of light and sun, with clouds scudding overhead too - you may have indeed done this before but, like my frequent 20 mile bus trips to the nearest town, every trip is different with changing weather and light. That's the glory of British weather, it rarely stays the same for long and the day lengths vary so much over the year. all the best for 2020, guys! Looking forward to more of your great content.
So the sole porpoise of the repeat cruise was to get on to the Leeds and Liverpool, to head East, sorry just couldn't resist. A repeat but always a pleasure to catch up on your adventures, the bridge sounded like fun with the alphabet, wonder if they sang the song on their way over? A lovely way to round off the day to find a notification for the vlog, my treat for being brave to have the flu jab, thank you.
Hello, before I start, I need to warn you this is going to turn into a bit of a ramble. Sorry! My husband and I are really enjoying your vlogs. They are so well put together and informative. We love the historical information, I personally thought vlog 168 was great, and of course we love George. You might be wondering (or not) why I’m only commenting now, on this vlog, and not on number 283. Here comes the ramble... we are friends with a couple, who have holidayed on the canals for years and from 2005 until 2010 they lived on a narrowboat. We don’t know why we waited, but we decided to go on our own narrowboat holiday last year, in October. On their recommendation we went on the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal. Wow, what a beautiful canal, and although we went at the end of October we were blessed with lovely weather, with the only rain on the Friday. We were also very lucky to be homeward bound when the river Usk burst its banks, flooding Crickhowell from where we had hired our boat. We are now (if you hadn’t already guessed) hooked on narrow boating. Over Christmas we binge watched Cruising the Cut and then thought, hmmm... who to watch now? We have been binge watching your vlogs while on lockdown, averaging 4 an evening. We are slowly catching up. We have two sons and I only found out a couple of days ago, that our youngest commented on vlog 282. Jenson Chandler 101, “Do a tour of your cannel boat.” Sorry. My husband is interested to know if you plan on visiting The Wash? And finally, congratulations on completing the silver propeller challenge.
Hi and thanks for all that! As I mentioned to your youngest we did a tour of the boat quite early on, but then I think you must have seen it if you’re working your way through from the beginning. Precious little has changed inside the boat since then, mainly lot of dog biscuits in hard to reach places. We do indeed plan to do the Wash, though when has been made a bit of a mystery. Our original plan was to do it early next year, which meant we had to make Boston by November... well that’s been blown all the heck by the pandemic, so while we don’t think the route has changed the odds are it’ll be late 2021 at the very earliest. At 4 a night you’ll catch up soon, hope you enjoy the rest! M&J&G
Would have loved to have gone up the Rochdale 9 and Ashton with you , we did this in 2011 the other way around. Ashton was something else but loved Rochdale 9
from many view points canal side housing is a labyrinth of fairyTail houses , very easy to see where david bowie and jim henderson got their inspiration for the movie Labyrinth and are you kidding over 50 miles of tunnels - just mind boggling - and 3 fishy phrases in before threat of a boxing on side of head well done ,, she's a keeper for sure
I think you might have done the Leeds and Liverpool in Michael time he had that glint in his eye, look forward to finding out. Take care you three. Cheers Alan.
Does that mean you will be going passed Accrington ? My Grandparents lived there for a couple of years in the late 70s and I can remember the canal being a stagnant rubbish dump with nothing to recommend it. Hopefully it is much nicer now. Best wishes.
I have been watching you on the sly for a couple of months. Time to subscribe. Please can you explain to us poor landlubbers what "silver propeller locations" are. Happy cruising.
Thank you both, found the history snippet very interesting, take care.
Thanks for watching!
It's always fun with you Two.
Thanks for keeping us happy.

Hi Jo Michael great video so much information jo looks like you had the water ways to yourselfs keep them coming, enjoyed my trip with you thanks,John

Glad you’re enjoying them... can’t really get further from the canals than Vegas (well, except for The Venetian, I suppose)! M
R G Barge. What a great name for a boat.
There are some great names about.... I love boat name spotting!
Thanks for such an enjoyable video!
Thanks for watching!
Doesn't matter that you repeat a canal or two, I will still watch your vlogs with pleasure!
Thank you! So kind of you to say!
Wonderful. The addition of reference arrows on the maps is great. Provides clarity. "Halibut" that was funny
Thanks, that’s good to know. The map thing not the fish thing!

In Stretford, used to run along the stretch of canal going underneath Chester Road...not so happy school days.
I enjoyed the video in spite of it being a repeat. Thanks for an interesting commentary.
Thank you, that’s lovely to hear!
Great videos lads, its nice to see what little is left of our coal pit heritage! Thanks.

Thank you. Didn’t realised we had been mentioned there. We did one interview for the IWA magazine and it seems to have been recycled! 👍🏻
Ooops, sorry, it was January's Tillergraph, just to correct my error
