I thought you would get a chuckle out of this. The Mars copter ' ingenuity' was in the news this weak. My wife and I have always called the Mars copter George because it was a passenger aboard Perseverance.
The foam on the river is dead algae. The cell walls are protein from which agar is made: "food thickeners, modern jello." when algae die, it naturally foams up from falls and rapids on streams and rivers and settles on the surface in an eddy. It looks like soap bubbles. Excessive fertilizer can increase algae in a river and more foam.
Ooooh we stayed at Naburn lock caravan park, about 6 years ago. We wondered whether it was obsolete. Little did I know how much I would come to love narrow boats . Had never heard of one then. 🙃
There is big water treatment station belonging to Yorkshire Water and they are dumping the sh...t unfortunately very often so that will be the foam. Great video. Greetings from York and following Your channel for years. Great job and best Christmas wishes.
Awww really enjoyed the video, my little home (although on boat most of the time) is close by the moorings you saw before the Uni rowing club. I had a cycle out whilst there couple weeks back thinking you might be around York, but missed ya. Dog's balls footage as always, George really does love his and all other balls ! :)
Here in California we call the foam on rivers “squaw soap” and it is naturally occurring “dissolved organic carbon” from fatty acids and decomposing leaves, soils, twigs and such interacting with oxygen on the surface water… or so I’ve been led to believe, and is generally considered to be rather innocuous 🤷♂️ 😬 however, I wouldn’t sprinkle it on my cornflakes as it could be industrial waste “up north!” Keep on trucking you two legends! Your videos are most definitely the dog’s…er… appendages 😜
I've often wondered are there rules against anchoring up along the river, not mooring on the shore, but dropping an anchor off the front and back, for just a short time say a few hours?
If you mean at any random point IN the river or canal, further away from the edge then no that isn't allowed in the case of canals (because they're usually too narrow) and in the case of rivers it depends how wide it is, you have to take care about exactly where you choose to moor/anchor because you'd be impeding the navigation of other boats on the waterways - and some rivers don't allow it at all so it's best to check the regulations governing the stretch of river you are interested in.
Its fine to stop. Ive stopped at cawood pontoon with no issues and “Keep turning Left” Anchored below naburn before continuing on next tide up to naburn. You have to travel with tides on Ouse & Trent. (Flows can be up to 7mph!)
Natural foam This is a natural part of a healthy ecosystem and is often caused by the decomposition of plants and animals. The organic surfactants released into the water reduce the surface tension, allowing air bubbles to form. Natural foam is usually light in colour, with a fishy or earthy smell. It's often tinted brown by tannin, a substance that also gives wood its colour, from Google.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Says how can a word both mean a good thing and a bad thing.... I'm sure it's an americanism that something good is sick...... But I agree, as a language English is a mess. I think the visitor moorings are alongside dame judy dench walk. The next bridge north would be 'scarborough bridge' after the train line on it for scarborough, in my school days (upto the 80's) we would swim under it and jump off it into the water, something now you would probably get arrested for....
Wow, what a beautiful navigation.

Lovely voyage. Wonderful light and reflections. I like the music too! 😎
Thank you very much! (I really hate choosing the music)
Awesome video as always enjoy them. Merry Christmas to you and your family especially George too!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
'"Makes no sense ... welcome to England!" 😂🤣 Yup, pretty much sums up our entire country in one simple single sentence package right there! 😆
Beautiful
York is a wonderful city, the rail museum is well worth a visit after you've walked the wall, and done the minster. And found all of the cats.
"the Imperial flower mills and their sad looking disused dwarves" Thanks, auto-generate!
great vlog thanks lee
No stopping at goose poop island for George this time
Beautiful scenery. Arriving in York in style! Hope you enjoyed the city.
Beautiful trip & it looks like a beautiful city!
It really is!
Beautiful calm.

Oh that is so funny.
Stunning

I think the term 'The cats whiskers' is the origin of the phrase.
oh yes, that sounds familiar
Wonderful. Thankyou.
My neck of the woods! Pity you missed 'tea by the lock' at Naburn. Amazing cakes and drinks and all Vegan.
Great vlog
Next time!
The foam you're referring to is from algae. It's the same stuff that's on the lock walls.
12:08 millennium bridge Me: so a new bridge. Also me: it’s nearly 2025. 😮 I fee so old now 😂 time has no meaning anymore.
I know right!

Sanction. To approve. To punish. Bollocks, I say!

Imagine longships on that river 1100 years ago.
Hi ❤ thanks for your videos
❤
Comment.
Just googled foam on the water. It is natural but can also be from pollution. It shows a good ecosystem if it’s natural.
I'm not convinced its natural. :-(
@ it actually is😅microbes! Google it.
I would like to see the converted river dredger is there a website?

Nope

It's confusing and I got into trouble using Americanisms in the wrong place. Boop, George !
Its so funny isn't it.

If you really want to give Michael a test, try some Cockney rhyming slang. Nobody else understands that.
