Funny story about travel pods. There was a flight of Buccanneers coming back from an excercise in the US (obviously many, many years ago). Their travel pods were kept in the rotating bomb bay. They got back and asked the crew to get the luggage out. Chief came back and said "Sorry Boss, no can do." Following some incredularity, the Sqn Leader went to inspect his aircraft. The bay had been opened and all that was inside was some tattered remnants of tape that had been used to help secure his pods. It emerged that during the long flight over the Atlantic, everyone had become incredibly bored. So to break up the tedium they found a random ship and did a practice low level attack on it, like they had done in the North Sea hundreds of times before. The attack involves a relatively high-G pop-up to loft the bombs into the target. That was well beyond the G limit of the pods so they all went sailing off into the drink. Everyone's uniforms, gifts, souveneirs and Duty Free all went to the bottom of the ocean somewhere. No idea if it's actually true, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The screens were monochrome because those were much higher resolution than colour - RGB requires 3 elements per pixel but mono only needs one ...cathode ray tubes never got close to modern LCD's in terms of resolution
Max I ever read about back in the day was 2048x1536 and a CRT's resolution depended on dot pitch not pixel size. Typical high end was 1600x1200 @85Hz. And if you get into the professional displays with high line counts the image quality was amazing.
AIM-9X is coming "in the future" with JHMCS. I THINK the datalink pod is for GBU-15 and AGM-130, which is also coming later. It was developed as a replacement for the F-111 and F-4E. Supposed to be low altitude, all weather figther with great ground attack cabability. The Terrain following radar is part of the LANTIRN Nav pod. Its seperate from the APG-70. (and will not be available at EA release)
Yup, GBU-15/AGM-130 will come. Those are 2000 pound glide bombs (the latter with booster), and theyre apparently datapod+camera controlled, kinda like Walleye or SLAM-ER in the final phase. I imagine those will be quite fun to use, especially with splash-damage mod that actually includes AoE effects of giant bombs. Im quite curious about the GBU-39 small diamater bombs. Kinda like small JSOWs with ~40km range, they come in quad-packs under wing/central pylon, and have at least GPS guided versions, and including terminal laser guidance.
@@termitreter6545 For the SDB's, it's more like 70km range when deployed from an F15E at altitude. So far it looks like we'll only be getting the original GPS guided version, not the laser or MMW guided versions. It's probably far down the road though as it's implementation into DCS will be handled by ED and later implemented into the F15E.
@@92HazelMocha Yeah, maybe it was 40 miles and not km^^ Shame tho, so no laser guided SDBs for moving targets either. Woulda been way easier to use than LGBs, even lasing yourself. Seems like the F-15E can pack a ton of bombs, but almost like the F-16 it got some payload limitations compared to F-18 (except again 6x maverick and cluster-skeets). Well, guess it kinda fits, Im not gonna jump on the F-15E for a while. F16/18 do most of those jobs quite well, and im more curious about cold war stuff. Excited for F-4; maybe later Mirage F-1 or F-14, especially early versions.
Razbam said they would like to do SDBs in one of the later updates. It will probably be the original GPS guided one, but that thing will be awesome for DEAD. I dont see why we couldent get Laser SDB laver, but the tri-mode SDB II (GBU-53) is still quite new and classified.

Especially since I've learnt the units to actual angle ratio changes depending on speed and altitude in the Tomcat, so I guess it does that on other airframes as well. 40:14 Cap things. 40:23 I genuinely expected more, but fair enough. I mean, we all know the official "M 2.5+" figure for the F-15C, but I've seen figures attesting it a top speed of 3.2 instead. With that in mind, I highly doubt the E would be physically limited to less than 2.5 actually especially since it puts out more thrust and drag gets less of a deal up there. Typically the top speed at those altitudes is mostly an inlet ramp thing actually. But, and this is the critical thing, there are design limits that shall not be exceeded: "CFT design limit curve is Mach 1.2 at around 8,000ft, Mach 1.4 at 18,000, Mach 1.6 at 25,000, Mach 2 at 35,000." (grabbed from the ED forums, posted by JB3DG on Oct 30 2021 in a thread calles "Option to remove CFTs", quoting some kind of document ;) Always remember Jeff Guinn stating that the 111 could easily do Mach 3, but just once and then was due for a complete engine overhaul. Wouldn't want to rip the CFTs though, but being able to go 2.2 with 10% over design limit actually is very decent. 40:53 Nice attention to detail there! OMG! F-15 Strike Eagle 2 - I think that's what it was. The first PvP flight sim I played - that was back in the 90i's. What a blast we had (and over dial-up). Keen (pun intended) for this!
Today Biden approved transfer of F16s to Ukraine. Would be great to see some missions on the impact these may make in various roles - close air support, air superiority, etc. Also I assume these will come from NATO inventories - so it will be interesting to know what implications this will have on the missions that may be flown.
12:38 that is the Convergent Exhaust Nozzle Control (CENC) in operation. It uses bleed air from the engine to open and close the nozzles, thus the sound. The General Electric version of this engine, which is used on some F-16s, uses engine oil to open and close the nozzle, and thus does not make any sound.
My dad was a crew chief on one of these beasts when they were stationed up here at formerly Elmendorf Air Force Base, 90th fighter squadron in Anchorage AK
They are taking the conformal fuel tanks off f-15ex for a2a mode because they say that the tanks are still very draggy. I bet it top speed would be faster with them off. In A2A load out, they will take off with drop tanks instead so they can drop them if they need optimal performance.
I suggest everyone go watch GS because this channel is just one big advertisement for their DCS clan. Most of these guys have no idea what they are even talking about when it comes to Aircraft in reality.
The GE engines have the turkey feathers, the Pratts do not. On the real F-15-E, the conformal fuel tanks can be removed, so that might be something to see if it's possible, you'll have less weight and drag.
Razbam have said they will not be allowing removable CFTs, because the USAF only ever took them off for maintenance and maintenance check flights. plus that would mean developing an entirely separate flight model.
@@jasonosmond6896 i just skimmed through that article myself, and yes it does sound like a few squadrons at lakenheath are doing it now. But it was never cleared to be done before 2022, while the version we are getting is much older than a 2022 jet, and you also lose the nav and targeting pods, along with almost all A/G-capable pylons. Plus the aformentioned large amount of extra dev time it would take to allow it to have removable CFTs, when it's not super useful to have them off except for a few niche scenarios. I myself would probably never take them off, and i'd much rather see the dev time allocated elsewhere to make the rest of the jet better.
The 'turkey feathers' on all F-15 engines are removed because they kept getting ripped off during high speed maneuvering so it was easier and cheaper to just remove them.
the f-16XL was not delta it was a cranked Aero. there is a diffrenance. also we didn't build it because of a tornado fly. we built it was a replacement to the aging F-111 fleet.
Lovely stuff! I’m excited for all the lovely GR content that will come with the F-15E. In a side note, I would love to see a damage model where the jet can split in half, as it’s quite jarring in DCS that the body is always intact and only the wings, stabilators and nose cone ever come off. I doubt we’ll get it but it would be nice for some aircraft!
What does it mean that the INS can be set to "fully alligned", even beyond "fast align"? I really hope it means its 100% aligned all the time, because waiting for INS alignment is about the most boring and pointless thing to me.
Did the Israeli plane swatch to the GE F110 engine. When the US switched to the IPE engines in the 90's they were not available for export so Israeli plane would not have the upgrade.
If I remember right the E was made off the B 2 seat trainer. No need to reinvent the wheel when you have a proven airframe that can carry anything in the inventory.
I thought this was going to be the new EX version that was recently announced. DCS has a lot of catching up to do. Looking at the payload capacity helps understand why they would want an F-15 EX close to the price of an F-35.
The F-15EX is classified (and will be for a long time) so that's why we are getting a much older version. Same goes for the F-16 and F/A-18 which are versions from 2007 and 2005.
There are two AMAD's. They each have a PC (PC1 is on the left, PC2 is on the right) pump, a utility pump, and an IDG. The utility system has 2 pumps. The AMAD button on the fire panel cuts fuel to the JFS if there is a fire in the secondary power bay. The discharge switch discharges the fire bottle to extinguish a fire. AMAD's transfer power from the JFS/CGB to start the engines through an isolation decoupler that is pushed into a pawl carrier on the AMAD by oil pressure when the finger lift on the throttle is lifted, then through a PTO shaft out the back of the AMAD into the gear box of the engine, and once the engine is running the engine runs everything mounted to the AMAD in the reverse. The winwing stick uses a bearing on cam mechanism with a spring to give tension. It should be pretty easy to pop it open and replace the spring. I'm sure you can find a similar spring on McMaster Carr or whatever similar thing you have in the UK.
Why do you guys loves hook wire on carrier ?? Those hook wires are meant for emergency purposes, when you can't brake, or your airbrakes having issues, or maybe the upper half of the rwy is damaged (idk).. you can land and stop immediately.. There are hook wires and MAG (mobile arrestor gear) to help in these emergency situations. AND.... someone might need to find out if the carrier's hook wire is able to "ACCEPT" F-15, since its heavier, and it has more inertial..
Any chance you could ask WinWing the spring specs are? This is a common issue: I know 5 pilots who have had their springs break in the last year, and we'd LOVE to stop bugging WinWing to send us $0.50 parts that cost WinWing $40 in shipping, and I'm sure they'd appreciate not having to send them. If they let you know the specs of the springs, we could replace them ourselves in our home countries by buying springs of the same spec in bulk and not having to worry about their gear being useless if the spring breaks, and them having to be on the hook to send us new springs! This would be mutually beneficial for all parties involved, especially in regards to the old Orion V1 stick base which they've discontinued!
Like others said for the screens, it was resolution, so they didn’t look potatoes on screen. And those shown aren’t true monochrome, monochrome is the slightly silvery, grey scale only screen, very high resolution for the time, and we used them well into the 2010’s for the platforms I used to work on. Until they went to the upgraded airframes, new builds/total tear downs and rebuilds. They also work better with low light systems. Think king before NVG’s were viable, even as aircraft mounted systems. Let alone work on the head, plus they are no where near as bright as color systems, of CRT’s and easier to see in low light/night, make out details. Many many reasons, but they actually cost more in more modern times, as they have to be special ordered and built. As no one made them for decades and decades. But we used them for many reasons, cost wasn’t one of them, they were essentially handmade. When we needed full replacements, or individually trouble shot and hand fixed, with old tech parts. Not just swapping out digital cards. You guys have to remember some of the best aircraft and tech, systems…are American, yes we worked with others many times for small parts, etc. but let’s just American to simplify it. That ground breaking tech. Top of its class and the world…everything but the 5 gen, is 60’s-70’s base level tech, when they first started developing them, with only minor upgrades through that. Until they were adopted. Woth huge amounts of analog systems in them, some even mainly that. Transistors we’re still pretty new in the grand scheme of things. Newest than jet engines, and helicopters were older than jet engines, still are for that matter. So you go back 50-60 years…or more…things are vastly different, more so in high technology of the time and aircraft. And what you can accomplish, now, with what you have, not what you might able to do, later, in “ just a few more months” or another year.
Cap, if this video gets demonetized and you can’t figure out why, it’s probably because at 04:35 you said “retarded”. That’s a no no word now. I know, I know. It’s retarded. But that’s the world we live in.

FYI there isn't a single person on the planet who actually touched these aircraft that ever called it the 'mudhen'. I have no idea where the internet got that from. We call it the Strike. It's always been the Strike.
@Fnhatic; Just like the F-16 is (unofficially) called Viper, instead of Fighting Falcon and the F-15C is called Albino, the SE is also referred to as Mudhen. Suggest you read William L. Smallwood's book about the SE.

Kind of like how the internet was awash with articles on how the F-35 was terrible. Most of the articles were pure lies but were written to normie audiences who have no chance of ever even seeing an F-35 in person, much less could possibly understand things like the flight limitations the F-35 was under when it "lost to an F-16" in like 2015. The aircraft at the time was literally rate-limited in how fast it could roll, and those restrictions weren't lifted until Block 3F. I am a firsthand source with nearly a decade of time on the airframe from 2006 to 2015. It's a terrible nickname, in part because you know what we call when you crash an aircraft? "Putting it in the dirt". To call it the Mudhen is pretty tasteless. The 'mudhen' nickname goes alongside the idea that was popular for a while that the F-35 would be nicknamed the "Raven". It was never real. I also have never heard the nickname "Panther" for it either which some random website claims is the nickname for it. Though to be fair I left the F-35 program in 2019 and that rumor started in 2018. I'm not holding my breath on that one being anything more than a one-off thing.

The aim 9x was shown on the SE in the pre order trailer
@@termitreter6545 For the SDB's, it's more like 70km range when deployed from an F15E at altitude. So far it looks like we'll only be getting the original GPS guided version, not the laser or MMW guided versions. It's probably far down the road though as it's implementation into DCS will be handled by ED and later implemented into the F15E.
@@92HazelMocha Yeah, maybe it was 40 miles and not km^^
Shame tho, so no laser guided SDBs for moving targets either.
Oh yeah GR dropping a video while im still awake 😂
Looking forward to this, waited this long, don't care about waiting a few more weeks, prefer these early adoptees guys to find the bugs. Nice

33:14 It's massive... only the F-111 would have even more, somewhere around 32k'ish. Without tanks...
38:02 LOL, innit bruv?
39:02 Agree, it's just complete and utter bullcrap!
But, and this is the critical thing, there are design limits that shall not be exceeded:
"CFT design limit curve is Mach 1.2 at around 8,000ft, Mach 1.4 at 18,000, Mach 1.6 at 25,000, Mach 2 at 35,000." (grabbed from the ED forums, posted by JB3DG on Oct 30 2021 in a thread calles "Option to remove CFTs", quoting some kind of document ;)
Always remember Jeff Guinn stating that the 111 could easily do Mach 3, but just once and then was due for a complete engine overhaul.
Wouldn't want to rip the CFTs though, but being able to go 2.2 with 10% over design limit actually is very decent.
40:53 Nice attention to detail there! And yes, they're called turkey feathers.
41:13 Afaik they've been removed due to overstressing causing damage to them at high speeds.

Mudhen?

@@pike100 yeah the F-15Es primary role was anti ground anything. If it was on the ground it had a way to kill it.
@@Kaelland Literally nobody (NOBODY) in real life involved with this airframe has ever called the F-15E the 'mudhen'. That's an internet-only thing.
Nobody. It's called the 'Strike'.
@@fnhatic6694 That's fine. That doesn't change the fact that A nickname for the bird IS "Mudhen," even if it's only an Internet nickname.
And that's all I was trying to explain.
That tail flash is from my first squadron, the 333rd FS also called the Lancers!
Hasn't there been 6 or 7 of those videos already made? Just search the videos for the past year.
@@jimrussell4062 I only saw a couple of air superiority missions.
Travel pods aren't carted/armed. The pylon would have to be jettisoned to drop the travel pod.
AMAD is essentially the gearbox on the aircraft side. Hornets have them too (one per engine). Powers things like generators and hydraulic pumps etc.
Bout time you guys got included in early access previews!!
They were for the longest time and then GR went full retard and got cut out of it all. Them being included again is a return to what it used to be.
At 12:38 The F-16 block 52s make that sound too.
They are taking the conformal fuel tanks off f-15ex for a2a mode because they say that the tanks are still very draggy. I bet it top speed would be faster with them off. In A2A load out, they will take off with drop tanks instead so they can drop them if they need optimal performance.
No air to ground missiles or rockets?
☹ I wish I had the income to purchase these great aircraft.
I suggest everyone go watch GS because this channel is just one big advertisement for their DCS clan. Most of these guys have no idea what they are even talking about when it comes to Aircraft in reality.
و خمدت نار فارس اللي كانت تُعبد من دون الله

The GE engines have the turkey feathers, the Pratts do not. On the real F-15-E, the conformal fuel tanks can be removed, so that might be something to see if it's possible, you'll have less weight and drag.
Razbam have said they will not be allowing removable CFTs, because the USAF only ever took them off for maintenance and maintenance check flights. plus that would mean developing an entirely separate flight model.
@@play3rthr339 Per The War Zone, the USAF has been flying the F-15Es at RAF Lakenheath without the CFTs since the beginning of the year. /shrug
The earlier F15s were very fast, so the engine nozzles kept losing the turkey feathers. So they decided not to waste anymore feathers on it :)
The 'turkey feathers' on all F-15 engines are removed because they kept getting ripped off during high speed maneuvering so it was easier and cheaper to just remove them.

P.s. missed you man
Lovely stuff!
So no GBU-28 on early access. Too bad.
The square plates on the pilots right hand side and the WSOs left hand side are for the blower unit for the aircrews chemical defense gear.
Next up for GR, the F15-EX
Wondered if CAP would be getting this early. One of my fave planes. 😁
Did the Israeli plane swatch to the GE F110 engine. When the US switched to the IPE engines in the 90's they were not available for export so Israeli plane would not have the upgrade.
Israel is still buying F-15s and they have many different versions of Eagles and Strike Eagles.

If anyone has info on what McMaster Carr spring would replace the WinWing spring for an Orion V1, please do let us know!
I notice the engine parameters were identical on the ENG page. Have they actually modelled the engines separately?
other videos do show engine rpm differences just like the FA18 does ingame
I loved hearing the exhaust nozzles on the Strike Eagle in real life, it sounds awesome!
The F15E was my fav plane in Janes USAF so looks like i might have to add this to my collection
Kind of surprised it's such an old model of the F-15E. Those UFCs were replaced with NVIS compatible flat-panel displays like 15 years ago.
I can't believe we are flying worlds best simulated jets in 2007 graphic sceneries and paying Triple-A prices for them.

The 14 is the wind speed through the pitot tube, Just the wind, ie your airspeed. The angle of attack is because you are not moving and the little "wings" that provide AOA info are hanging down because there is no airflow to provide lift since you are not moving.

I only had time to skim the video, but does your version come with a 1st person (VR) pilot body?
If so, how is it?
(Razbam set the "pilot body" standard with their AV8B, so I'm really curious what they've done for the Mudhen)
@@Sirrah81 Viper drivers actually call the F-16 the Viper.
Nobody. Calls. It. The. Mudhen. If it's an F-15C it's an Eagle. If it's an F-15E it's a Strike.
William L. Smallwood was a thousand years old and long-retired by the time the F-15E took to the skies. He is at best a secondhand source. And spoiler alert: most of these books written by retired old farts are, like, 40% fiction. They're written for audiences that don't know better and have no way of verifying.
I live in Arizona, we don't smack burglers, we shoot them!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
My gosh he buys $1000 sticks and they break down, I guess I should be happy with my lasting T16000
