8:15 "oh shiet, my father's death must be Superman's fault for not killing the villain, not because i was rushing to scene so my father got killed"
Yup kids are like that, they're immature and don't know what is wrong or right
But I bet that kid would realise it was his own fault that his father died when he grew up
Yes but his father's wouldn't have died regardless if super man killed atomic skull in their first encounter.
@@lorettalynn2610 That "kid" is animated... This comment sounds very personal
What about people killed before?
@@lorettalynn2610 yup. He pretty much put everyone in danger that day.
Okay actually I'm all for superheroes not killing anyone.
Who really continues to drop the ball in the comics is the government. Seriously, they develop weapons to fight the supes, but courts never sentence mass murder clowns to death.
But he's insane, also he's the joker baby
@@mr.google1437 He also killed thousands, judges would be torn apart by angry mobs at some point.
The villains always break out of prison too. Guys like Bane and Solomon Grundy are pretty hard to keep locked up.
@@gregrowe1168 solomon grundy usually dies, with some stories have the main motive of his to die
To be fair this IS GOTHAM we're talking about. It shouldn't be surprising that even the court system is corrupt especially when the city is not only full of corrupted people, but also ran by a secret society of rich people (The Court of Owls)
Nah normal criminals needs Superman's treatment, super villain serial killers need the death penalty even if immediately.
Both sides are valid death shouldn't be a norm but there are cases where its even kinder to the villain to end their life and end a cycle of terror.
Yup. It's a balance.
Something that many Superheroes don't get.
People misjudge Batman specifically; he doesn't JUST kill because it's wrong.
It's because he knows that once he starts, he won't be able to stop.
Traditional Superman stories have always been about defending black and white ideology. The world has since moved more towards a Utilitarianism ideology. So now we have boomer Superman in a world where right and wrong is defined by what is most beneficial for all and it fits like a wet sock.
@@schizoidmeme5470 Exactly. But Superman has no place to be an executioner. If the law decides the death penalty, he will not interfere. Superman would need a very specific reason to do otherwise. I only have one recollection of such an instance in the animated series, where an innocent man as well as the fate of his own life as Clark Kent was on the line.
That is why it takes a divine intervention to stop this madness.
@@schizoidmeme5470 That means he is really really mentally ill and mentally weak. Also him not killing Joker makes him partly responsible for all the people Joker killed.
This title isn’t clickbait. It’s just plain wrong.
To be honest, killing the supervillains makes perfect sense. If the main goal of superheros is to save lives, then why are supervillains constantly given the time to kill whoever they want and then become recaptured just to repeat that killing spree cycle over and over again.
Watch the movie (again). Superman answers your question, if you’re willing to listen to him over the enemy
@@teleportedbreadfor3days what Superman “answers” is why he and bats don’t need to be superheroes. They need to be in government and try to change it from within, as their cowardly tactics are better suited for politics
@@jbabylucus1641 Ok I am not answering that
@@jbabylucus1641you definitely didn't watch the movie, spazz
I find it a bit odd that no one ever really blames the prisons for doing a poor job of keeping the super villains locked up. With all the technology that the government has and all the knowledge at their disposal, you think prisons would be a lot more secure and able to hold the villains.
Superman vs the elite is one of my favorite Superman movies, one of the best superhero movies adapted from a comic, and is one of the best Superman movies in general. Superman's ideals, values, and morality are challenged when the Elite do misguided killings that the world seems to support. It's the battle of whether or not Superman is relevant in the world. I honestly think that what is needed in the world is how Superman represents truth, justice, trying to do the right thing, and trying to make people and the world better.
@StareachValcin watch more movies this shit is trash, 100% liberal mindset, the "villains" are one dimensional and superman is a righteous hero and doesn't learn anything because he is so perfect and can't differentiate between dangerous murderous supervillains that breaking out of prison is tuesday for them or terrorist and bank robber
@@FranciscoPizarro489 I have watched plenty of movies and this movie isn't trash. It's actually a good Superman film that shows why his ideals, values, and morality are relevant in this world. It even shows how Superman losing his morality would be a very bad thing. Superman isn't perfect in this, but he has plenty of wisdom that we should learn from.
@@FranciscoPizarro489 also, Superman can differentiate between a supervillain, a terrorist, and a bank robber. He just cares about all people and doesn't put the law into his own hands. You may not like Superman vs. the Elite, but that doesn't make this movie bad. Plus, there's no problem with Superman either.
@@StareachValcin The only way is relevant to the world is how people in positions of power like in schools, where they don't deal with the bully and instead act against those who actually try to fight back except in rare cases where the bully cause a really big scene
@@FranciscoPizarro489 no. He is relevant in this world by showing how people have the capacity for good despite all of the bad in the world, that people can care about each other, try to help each other, try to do the right thing, and try to be better.
All in all, blame DC’s poor world building lmao.
It’s 100% the duty of the judicial system to get punish criminals. Unless the Joker has an excellent lawyer, it’s remarkable that the worst basic punishment is imprisonment
There might be super lawyers in a world with superheroes who are able to bend luck and public opinion in their favour.
@@avmrb42 and I’d fucking love to see a one shot comic about them.
Iirc, there’s a comic (or at least canon characters) in the Marvel Comics where there sole jobs is to reconstruct city blocks after battles.
@@mahari893 Yeah but the super vilain lawyer might wanna keep his super power secret so he can keep winning cases.
I've said this alot but having powers and throwing on a costume doesn't give someone the right to cast punishment. People always blame the ones that stop the villains, but it's the job of the court systems and prison to keep the public safe.
If a villain escapes prison and murders people again then obviously the justice system is useless. The prison is obviously not reforming nor containing them. Only logical move would be to kill
I always like when you have some new cannidate running for Mayor in Gotham or something, who has everything capable to fix the system. Them some plot device happens, and they either die or leave.
Ok, I see where people are coming from... but why is it HIS responsibility to kill those villains when it is entirely possible that they can kill them? They (being the government and such) have the power to sentence them to death, and they never do! Why are people wanting super man or batman to do these things when the police, judge, and others can?
Because they dont
@@oinkypiggy7754 Cadmus and starlabs begs to differ. The governments in DC have just as much access to ludicrious crap as the supes
hell some departments have crap thats been used to deal with justice league members as "contingencies"....when they could easily be solutions to preexisting issues
Cause their supervillains with high as durability
while cgovt keeps building all high tech weapons to kill supes and other heroes and instantly treat them as villains, which they cant do same effort for actual villains, people like Lex Luthor shows that world is not so technologically behind for not being able to make stuff, literally they have collars that can nullify superpowers(meta genes)@@gxo.
Superheroes don't have a right to exist in the first place. They've already crossed the line of imposing their will on the people.
...
if superman can remove people's powers...
why didn't he do it to atomic skull?...
was it cuz part of skull's sentance was to be used as a nuclear battery?...
cuz if so....
he's not to blame there
but if he was involved in the trial with that result, then yes superman was responsible for all of skull's actions
This is late, but the reason why Superman could remove Manchester's powers was because it was all thanks to a part of his brain, he could simply just cut it off with his heat vision.
Atomic Skull however, is another can of worms
@@gerard935
yeah, but manchester was clear
what i'm commenting about are the pods he locked up the other 3 shmucks to remover their powers
@@frakspikes2619 ohhhhh riiiight, he did have that.
Yeah i've got no explanation for that
Calling the FoS as Krypton was little distracting. Pretty nice movie in the current context. I think Dr Manhattan subtly answered the question
8:42 superman suddenly goes to krypton. I'm dead.
You know he just keeps Krypton at the North Pole, I thought everyone knew that.
I think this is my favorite Superman movie. It really understands Superman and has him face a difficult challenge that test his resolve and integrity. Superman has a strong moral no kill code and the Elite challenge that. In the end Superman pulls through and proves his values and morals. It's not his place to decide who lives or dies.
Mindless killing beasts like Doomsday are fair game to kill since there's no reasoning with them and are too dangerous to let live.
I also find it odd that no one ever gets mad at the prisons for doing a poor job of keeping the super villains locked up. With all the technology and knowledge they have you think they would do a much better job at holding the villains.
I definitely agree.

Superheroes shouldn't kill. It's up to the governments to decide, during trial either to give the death penalty or imprison them.
Exactly, and the Justice League of all people understand this.
This recap video of Superman vs the elite made an error. Superman went to the fortress of solitude, not Krypton.
People didn't even give the supervillains the proper trials yet somehow it's Superman's fault when the damages happen
"We can't get the insurance claim unless the whole property is damaged beyond repair. But Superman comes in and "saves the day". Now we gotta spend more money, and everyone gets to live! Yay....."
the whole comment section needs to watch the whole movie instead of a mere recap. This is a big middle finger to overdone "what if superman evil" thrope from a source material published even 2 years prior to invincible(yes this one may not wholly be about bad supe, merely to point to out) and 5 years to the boys, let alone irredeemable and its netflix movie adaptation.
I'm willing to bet money the Authority movie coming and the superman movie after are going to be adapting this with the authority subbing in
That be cool
I had only seen bits and pieces of this movie, I actually didn’t realize that the elite weren’t really villains more like anti heroes like Deadpool and the punisher from Marvel.

It really showed the lengths Superman would go to protect and serve, without unnecessary violence
Atomic Skull, Blight, Doctor Phosporus, (Doctor Manhattan?)
Okay someone needs to search these up and tell me that they all look like brothers or something 😂
Well, with Blight, he was based on Doctor Phosphorus. Atomic Skull and Doctor Phosphorus just look a bit similar in some versions.
I knew he was probably telekinetic but you got me with the clickbait title 😭
Tell me why the Black man is the one with chains dangling from him. Too many implications there...

I do think villains should be killed by the heros if the legal punishment was the death sentence and not jail, but they didn't have a ability or possibility to kill the villain, like doomsday or something like that

That the idea people, just take away the supervillain powers and there you have it no more trouble.
All this hero code of not killing is total bs.
Bruh 😂 people like the joker need to be on that No 1 death list
My biggest issue with comics is that there is no death penalty
Its not bs. Because its exactly the direction the world is going in.
Fewer wars. Still lots of skirmishes, but outside of the current ukraine russia conflict, we've been RELATIVELY at peace. More and more countries have had violence decline. Some increase, but overall it went down. And more and more countries are abandoning the death penalty. Because those violent crimes are going down.
Batman/superman writers somehow predicted this. And what "that" was, was more and more people dont want to see real violence around them. Theyll revel in fake violence all day. Real violence they start to shun.
Agreed, I mean I can understand it with people who aren't in full control of their actions like star sapphire or are crazy like two face, but Atomic Skull has less reasons to be kept alive than even the Joker, he is in full control of his sences,he has shown that he can't be contained safely and is actively targeting innocent civilians for no reason other than wanting to fight/kill superman.
Also side note if superman has the science and tech to remove multiple different powers, why only use this on heros, anti heros, and vigilantes? That sounds like it would be really useful against the super powered psychopaths that can't stay in jail for more than a month.
Look at Homelander for example

Not killing criminals is the dumbest shit to ever live by, super man could save himself so much time and effort if he just killed then rather then holding back
Problem is it's not his place to deliver punishment. 1 man doesn't have the right to cast judgment no matter how powerful he is.
Superman has morality and human values that keeps him from killing people. Despite his ability to fly, Superman doesn't put himself above people or the law. He wants to help people and try to do the right thing, not just kill criminals. If Superman just crossed the line and started killing people, it would be a very slippery slope that would inevitably lead him into taking the law in his own hands. It wouldn't be a good day for humanity if Superman dropped his morals and values to be a dictator. Fortunately, Superman is wise enough not to resort to killing criminals.
