I have a feeling all this side tracking is keeping me from getting me ring. I know I'll get it eventually - that's the whole point of Shadow of War. But I can't help but feel like it's pointless to start without it in the sequel to the game where you just had it. Small complaint I know, but still having fun with this playthrough.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action role-playing video game developed by Monolith, known for it's nemesis gameplay system. Set between the events of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, the story follows the ranger Talion who's family was murdered on the Black Gate where he was stationed. Brought back to life to seek revenge by Celebrimbor, the elf who created the One Ring for Sauron, the two seek to destroy the forces of Mordor once and for all. Stoked to keep up my Shadow of War gameplay!
What do you think Gollum is up to this time? Is he tryin' to bone down with this spider lady too? I mean, I get it.

orc: prepare yourself grave walker! uh...grave walker...?
jesse: *is seen getting fallen foe’s gear* I know I know but hear me out....loot tho
time?
Dammit, Jesse, read more! That little blurb on the Molog'hai tells you that you can stun 'em by shooting a fully charged arrow into their face, or by timing your counters. It'll let you mount them and run 'em into other enemies.
It's Olog Hai not Molog Hai
It doesn't tell you though that by "counter" they actually meant stun.
What do you think Gollum is up to this time? Is he tryin' to bone down with this spider lady too? I mean, I get it.
Gollum only has eyes for one ring and he's not interested in her precious :p
Mirian is also used to upgrade your siege defenses and offenses, and its pretty expensive, so save up if you can
Jesse Cox check strengths for tribe bonus class and immunity
You'll find that out in time. Know what we don't have time for though? You to learn the bare basics of this game.
Jesse... are you ok? you're editing your videos. what has happend?
I really like the twins.
I read this right as he came back
I've been thinking, the loot system totally defeats the symbolism of murdering orcs with your dead son's broken sword.
It's especially weird when the orcs mention the broken sword like you're still using it
it's almost like they made a game and then added a loot and loot box system to it later.
Loot and Loot boxes are 2 completely different things. The loot boxes were tagged on, the loot system has clearly been integrated and designed/balanced around. The loot system adds a huge layer of customability to the game (despite Cox deciding to only look at the top number and ignore everything else about the items). The loot boxes are a blight on the gaming industry.
Also the importance of the Ring, since you can get better ones later.
"I have forged a new ring of power, one that can rival even the One Ring, with it we shall take Mordor!"
*lvl 11 captain drops a better ring*
Jesse questioning the entertainment value of brutalizing orcs
s m h
I'm poor & broke but watching lets plays allow me to at the very least experience the games vicariously through Cox or Cry
Why not "Yarrr",if you know what i mean)
it's already up on Piratebay.it takes ages to download though
You may want to look at the bonuses you can get from the gear you pick up rather than just the red or green number. If you get a good one it can more than make up for the small damage loss on the item.
Jesse yelling at beserkers because he never bothers to use stun on them to prevent the counter attacks. 10/10
Can't wait till you clear the first fortress, you'll get an interestingly pleasant surprise. Also, ty for having good content! A lot of you-tubers have degraded in quality and just aren't enjoyable anymore.
yeah i love jesse man his content always warms my heart
so much you are missing.
-When in inventory, you can sell the items you dont need. There is NO reason to keep any non legendary items, unless it has poison or fire
-when in the gem meny, you can combine 3 gems of the same type and quality to upgrade it to the next level
-FFS USE your execution when the bar is full
-like in the previous game, the orcs are blind as a bat, so you can stealth just by walking up to them and stab them
-when an enemy is raising the alarm, you NEED to stop them. They are easy to spot on the minimap, by the glowing "claw" icon
My lower damage Dagger that always applies poison just makes certain Captains and Vendetta Missions a cinch xD!!!! ALWAYS keep something like that imo/
I loved Mug's reaction to seeing Jesse
That last outpost Jesse... Oh that last outpost. It hurts me so much when you ignore obvious environmental advantages. It was hanging right in front of you, the meat.
I wish Takra would gain a head every time you kill him.
He repeated his lines from first meeting with Jesse, though. Death must have fried his brains :).
jesse reacted to fast to the things gollum said. the fly-hive part 30:40 actually had funny dialogue, if only he had waited a little bit longer
Hey Jesse! Great videos again, if you wait until the counter button turns blue you can perform a perfect counter and there are skills which let you improve it such as doing a perfect counter kills any grunt enemy. And upgrade your gems! The wealth gems at the beginning of act 2 can be socketed into your ring which give your followers more levels. Cheers and keep up the hilarious videos. More SGS?
playing on normal and failing spactacularly, ah thats why I love you jesse!
Liam O'Brien's Gollum is amazing, especially when you know he also voices Illidan Stormrage (WoW) and Yasuo (LoL) among many others.
Watching him randomly busting into Sean Connery and other impressions is a joy to watch, even if he spends half of each episode of Critical Role crying his eyes out.
I think Liam is also another voice in the game as well. Possibly an orc?
@Jesse / Press shift + space or whatever the equivalent to run while stealthy, and you can get a skill that lets you run without making noise.
Two guys named Douche and Mug... ah, we come for the successes but stay for the failures.
Some tips Jesse. 1. When sword glows use the execution more often. 2. Dual wieled enemies like that captain with the fire hat needs stunning(B on xbox controller) before you can hit em. A genereal good tip against Captains is to build the hit meter on the grunts to use execution on the captains :) Keep it up
Orcs have hype men in this game.
Holy fuck.
You need to level up so that when you get the ring you can conquer guys and bring them to your side
Jesse please please use your executions when the might meter is full (Might meter is the bar above the mini map that fills as you hit enemies) otherwise as soon as you take damage the meter depletes. Using executions can make killing officers much easier as long as they aren't immune.
Also when searching for the officer to kill you need to go into the green area and use wraith vision to find them not just head to where the yellow skull icon is on the map.
Hi Jesse, I can really recommend the wraith skills. They will really make fights a lot easier for you because you can stunlock one enemy or AoE a group.
I really hope the singer isn't dead and will join Jesse's army
Take heart Jesse. You're still better at this than Crendor.
Jesse played the first game though so he knows the controls already, Crendor is still learning.
not by much
That's not really a compliment either...
I don't know how much of a compliment that is...
Jesse, you have to hold the glaive attack. Its like a charge ability, the longer you hold it the longer the glaive attack lasts
Jesse plays this game... way differently than I would. Almost no attempts to use info about Captains. Does not use the ability to blow up campfires he wanted so much. Keeps getting upgrades for abilities rather than more abilities. I enjoy watching but I cringe a bit.
*+BlackMandragon* Welcome to the phenomenon and wonder that is Jesse Cox.
The thing is I have been watching Jesse since Diablo III was new.
It's like he wants to do and read everything, but maybe he thinks some viewers won't like it. He starts collecting shit, but then he suddenly decides to do something completely different. In reality, that is the thing that actually annoying, not him doing everything. Take yo time dude, rushing through games is shit for the person playing and the viewers.
What's so wrong about somebody that doesn't play "The way you would"? Isn't the point of playing "The way you would" is to play it yourself?
I cannot, in fact, play it myself. My laptop cannot run it. My Internet connection cannot download it. I do not have the money to buy it. So, no.
Talion is all "Oh no the poor only female I've seen in years we have to save her!"
Why aren't you telling the part where you get branded? Seriously Talion... priorities are screwed up.
jesse needs to get the skills more than he needs the upgrades right now. at the end of the wraith skill line there is an ability which lets you automatically pick up everything related to loot and mirian(whose upgrades are the most usefull of the entire game i might add coming close to the perfect counter kill skill upgrade in usefullness). the elven light skill is also something he'll need. he doesn't have any elemental dmg right now, if he doesn't get some soon he'll find orcs that are impossible to kill without exploiting their elemental vulnerabilities. i'm actually pretty suprised that Bubol the unyielding didn't adapt to his vaulting. later in the game they only let you leap over them 3 times. getting all the skills and ignoring skill upgrades until you have all the skills allows you to do the shadows of the past missions which grant skill points. upgrading skills this early will put you in difficult situations down the line. you'll have an extreme shortage of skill points if you don't do shadows of the past missions. not to mention the mirian and gem rewards. it isn''t all that difficult to get gold ratings. some of them will require some replaying to get the timings and strategy right but overall it's really easy to gold ratings.
you can also at any time activate a diffrent upgrade for a skill. that's the reason why jesse needs elven light and mighty shot right away for their elemental upgrades. so that if he has fire selected for elven light but they are immume to fire but mortally damaged by poison he can on-the-fly change elven light's element to poison to easiliy kill a guy which would've taken a lot of work to kill without utilizing poison.
He is playing on normal. Very few orks will adapt quickly to anything on that difficulty. Only the ones with quick learning will pick it up in 2 or 3 uses.
weird i'm also playing on normal atm at lvl 60 but most orcs do adapt quickly. maybe it's just because i have the short range teleport instead of the vaulting that i don't notice it much. got real tired of the vault adapting so i got that.
Fabian Donvil I'm playing on nemesis difficulty and they barely adapt. i try to switch between stun types vaults etc. not use the same stuff in succession. only when i use something consecutively they adapt to it. would be a bit harsh to have a specific number for everything you can try on them. it would make them literally unkillabe in some cases(except for uruk vs uruk)
yeah maybe it's because i'm too used to SoM. murdering captains there was a walk in the park: Stun -> flurry -> ground execution -> execution X2 -> repeat. killed every asshole without fail. exept those with combat master but those were far and few between.
oh well. they never adapt to the teleport so it's a reliable way of getting conistent backstabs. the only drawback is that it costs focus.
But I wanted to hear more of Horza's magical songs of encha---haaaaaaaa....his magical songs of encha--....his magical songs of encha-haaa-haaaaaa....his magical songs of encha-....his magical songs of enchaaa---haaaaaaa--....his magical songs of encha--...his magical songs of...en-chant-ment.
♫mag- magical songs of encha-me-mE-me♫
53:33 Jesse just killed the orc version of himself...
I love how back in the first video for this series he was aching to execute enemies but didn't have the ability yet now that he as it he hardly ever uses it.
Also, thank you Jesse for cutting out running from A to B. Makes it much more enjoyable to watch.
Strange it appears that lore in regards to gondorian artifacts is somewhat accurate, while the rest of the game pretty much not hehe. Those gems as enhancements remind me a bit of War in the North (also a game with WB slapped on it :)). Though in War in the North they looked cooler in inventory, like real gems :). So the Gollum and Shelob relations eh? Well Tolkien described it. It appears that Shelob, implied to have some mental powers, had some influence on his mind, Gollum was said to 'worship' her, though being ever driven by his desire for the One Ring, he also did things behind her back and had thoughts of betraying her. As for Shelob she lets him live as long as he does what she wants:
"Already, years before, Gollum had beheld her, Sméagol who pried into all dark holes, and in past days he had bowed and worshipped her, and the darkness of her evil will walked through all the ways of his weariness beside him, cutting him off from light and from regret. And he had promised to bring her food. But her lust was not his lust. Little she knew of or cared for towers, or rings, or anything devised by mind or hand, who only desired death for all others, mind and body, and for herself a glut of life. alone, swollen till the mountains could no longer hold her up and the darkness could not contain her.
But that desire was yet far away, and long now had she been hungry, lurking in her den, while the power of Sauron grew, and light and living things forsook his borders; and the city in the valley was dead, and no Elf or Man came near, only the unhappy Orcs. Poor food and wary. But she must eat, and however busily they delved new winding passages from the pass and from their tower, ever she found some way to snare them. But she lusted for sweeter meat. And Gollum had brought it to her.
`We'll see, we'll see,' he said often to himself, when the evil mood was on him, as he walked the dangerous road from Emyn Muil to Morgul Vale, 'we'll see. It may well be, O yes, it may well be that when She throws away the bones and the empty garments, we shall find it, we shall get it, the Precious, a reward for poor Sméagol who brings nice food. And we'll save the Precious, as we promised. O yes. And when we've got it safe, then She'll know it, O yes, then we'll pay Her back, my precious. Then we'll pay everyone back! '
So he thought in an inner chamber of his cunning, which he still hoped to hide from her, even when he had come to her again and had bowed low before her while his companions slept."
So suddenly Orcs are running around with morgul blades? Hmm I wonder whether the devs even know what that means? It's from elvish, a sindarin word for "black arts, sorcery". The MORGUL-KNIFE, is a staple weapon of Nazgul though, an enchanted dagger that turns it's victims into lesser wraiths under command of Nazgul and Sauron. Though there is nothing that prevents Orcs from having magic, we never see them having it in any sources (there are hints though that it might be possible), still dark sorcery is also the standard of the Ringwraith's arsenal. They have many weapons, like darts of potent poison that kills very fast ("Had he been smitten by some dart of the Nazgûl, as you thought, he would have died that night."), they appear to be able to deal some sort of 'enchanted' morgul wounds:
"Boromir I (after whom Boromir of the Nine Walkers was later named) was a great captain, and even the Witch-king feared him. He was... a man strong in body and in will, but he received a Morgul-wound in that war which shortened his days, and he became shrunken with pain and died twelve years after his father."
So the first apperance of Olog-hai, the better breed of Trolls:
"...the end of the Third Age a troll-race not before seen appeared in southern Mirkwood and in the mountain borders of Mordor. Olog-hai they were called in the Black Speech. That Sauron bred them none doubted, though from what stock was not known. Some held that they were not Trolls but giant Orcs; but the Olog-hai were in fashion of body and mind quite unlike even the largest of Orc-kind, whom they far surpassed in size and power. Trolls they were, but filled with the evil will of their master: a fell race, strong, agile, fierce and cunning, but harder than stone. Unlike the older race of the Twilight they could endure the Sun, so long as the will of Sauron held sway over them."
Dûsh the Tongue? There's a name that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Man you edited the fuck out of it and it's still an hour. Good shit Jesse, thanks for cutting all the running about out.
Jesse you're being silly. When the prompt says an orc is sounding an alarm...kill that orc?
I sincerely hope that Horza somehow becomes Jesse's arch nemesis. Always appearing and singing a song when you least expect it.
Jesse... the markers on the map saying 'captain in this area' are just tags telling you where to find clues to lead you to the captain. I don't know if you can actually find them without checking the clue first... it seems like half the captains in this game aren't just hanging around like in the first game.
Hey Jesse you can combine gems to get better ones and if you use wealth gems on your weapons you can farm gems from normal uruks. Realized it last night the tactics for gems.
Why does Talion look so strange
He's a corpse possessed by an elf ghost?
Because the graphics in this game look like late 360-era video games.
XD yeah totally 360 era if this looks like the 360 era of graphics then Metal Gear 2 is the ps2 era of graphics
He looks like his head doesn't belong on his body
AncelDeLambert I get this feeling too, idk why.
It seems like there are challenged tied to some of the gear that would unlock more of its potential. Is that something you're waiting to do at later levels?
Jesse you really need to execute more, just press the button as soon as the numbers are red come on. You have to tin the horde of enemies attacking you by executing them.
Gotta love Jesse - see's a mission that requires stealth kills, proceeds to run through the mission area alerting the whole base jnust to get to the quest... to kill ppl by stealth in the now alerted base! lol
What the ... how did Takra come back after you chopped his arm off before too? Do orcs have a healing ability that I'm not realizing?
why does talion look so clean in this game? when would he have bathed from the last game? also is it even possible to kill these damn captains? it seems like every single one he fights just keeps coming back.
Have to take their heads off for them to stop coming back, arms and legs they will either grow back or peg leg/claw hand it upon return. I'm actually glad some of them keep coming back, a few of the captains are pretty entertaining. I would personally brand (eventually) that singer guy and make him a bodyguard, but that's me.
50:00 jesse that is so mean to hot head you hurt his feelings he want's to be one of your kills to lol
In this episode, Jesse gets múgged.
I love the ambush system
The gems you keep collecting... combine 3 and it becomes one larger gem. You can unsocket gems and not lose them so you should be upgrading your gems all the time.
the green area on the map is where the captain could be, the golden skull does not indicate an exact position
Goddamn Gondorians, getting in the way of my sword. Oh hello Gondorian!
This has been edited a lot and I like it
Really hoping Jesse gets some of the special orc captains, there are quite a few amazing callbacks to the last game.
I see Shadow of War and Mordor share the same logic for undying enemies. If you don't cut their head off, they'll keep coming back every single time.
Jesse In Wrath the last skill in there is auto pickup loot. It is really time preserving.
46:40 looks like Jesse got "Mugged" xD...My work here is done.
Jesse, please oh please just do the main quests until you get the ring. The ring makes the game so much better.
Mug and Dush the Tongue will go down as Jesse's best nemesis. :D
I miss Ratbag. And Rublik. I hope Horza returns again and again, in fact, I want Jesse to either make Horza part of his army or his #1 arch-nemesis by the end of this. xD
I miss them too
I don't think Jesse knows what berserkers do
( 4:36 ) Wait, what the hell happened here ? Why the awkward and sudden cut there ?
( 8:00 ) Multiples ? What ?
( 9:13 ) Well, this is getting silly, now.
why does Jesse expect something else to happen when he's spamming light attacks against an enemy that can counter?
Did anyone else notice the random cut around 4:36? It goes from Jesse attacking an orc on the ground to jesse jumping off a ledge to climb the tower.
ok so it seems like Jesse has just started doing cuts to his videos. Didn't realize he started this.
it was just for the stuff in the first area that he missed
I am very sad that Jesse cannot recruit the singing pirate orc. They seem like a match made in heaven.
Amazingly there isnt much variety in the orcs, he will run into several if he continues playing.
The only way to ensure a Captain does permanently is to kill them via an execution, whether it be stealth, ranged, or in combat.
0:58 you can also combine gems to make even more powerful ones
Mûg the Drooler and Jesse Cox - Best Friends Forever!
I'd say the Orcs your going to hate the most are the one that cheat death and keep getting stronger, no matter how many times I kill him he keeps coming back!
Jesse destroy your useless gear for coins.
Friggin twin face repeated two of his previous lines.
When are you going to learn that you have to stun berserkers before you attack them?
Were do the orcs come from? And what the hell is making them that fast and that many!
"It's not even a challenge anymore".... up the difficulty to hard then. At the captains quickly adapt to most challenges in the harder difficulty.... and hit harder.
I just wanna poun out once more:
Jesse got killed by the drooler while trying to kill dush the tongue in between failing to kill 5 random orcs
15:50 is celebrimbor the headless horseman?
Up the difficulty please!
we wouldnt have much of a playthrough to watch as he struggles already
Why is the grand vault of artifacts located in a city so vital to Gondor's defense against Mordor?... wouldn't it make more sense for such artifacts to be at the capital? And not directly in the line of fire of any orc hoard?
Palantirs are essentially the telephones of this fantasy. There are 7 of them, and it takes mighty mojo to operate them. One is at Minas Ithil, one at Minas Arnor, one at Osgiliath, one at Orthanc, which are the ones in play at the moment. It's not a case of "treasure" but of a strategic weapon and communications device. You really need to read the books.
Agreed about the Palantirs, but I think they meant about the other Gondorian artifacts and treasures that were also being kept in the vault that the woman Talion helped out was trying to protect and take care of. One would have thought that those would have gone to Minas Tirtith for safekeeping and not so close to where enemies might show up.
Ahh. Notice that these "treasures" are family heirlooms and things that have no real monetary value, just heirlooms of the house. Much like your grandmother's handmade quilts or your granddad's toolbox. Much value to you, but of little worth to the wider world. Not weapons, nor spells, nor mighty swords, but humble things that are easily lost. In the cut scene, she was mourning a figurine. Mundane treasures, valued, yet ultimately of little value.
So what's with all the jump cuts? I don't remember it being in the last two videos. I don't know, it just feels very jarring being in one place one second and then the another place the next. It may be that it saves time from all the running and useless junk, but I don't know. I kind of like it when it's just one continuous stream as opposed to it being cut up.
he was in an area he compleated doing all the little make work quests that are mostly boreing. and knowing jesse, he probubly spent an hour getting lost between each map icon. by the end of this video i was bored waiting for him to find the ring and start mind controlling orcs (the good bit). i am glad that they edited it and that we didnt get 4, one hour long vids of him doing nothing interesting
Fair enough. I just thought I was going crazy because I could have sworn this didn't happen before. I didn't play the first game and I'm not likely going to play this one so I don't know what to look for. It's mostly just something to watch on my phone while I eat. Was worried if we were missing any story bits, even if they're just small side quests. Just going to have to get used to it I suppose.
And they STILL haven't figured out how to make Ghûls not be aggravating.
Is it just the way Jesse is playing, or does it seem like there are way too many Orc Captains running around?
I'm way late in asking this but if someone could help me out that'd be great;
Do these games take place before or after the films?
Before
thank youu
Fantastic I missed Power Hours
Mug Drooler and Dush the Tongue were the end of Talion
The legendary gear is functionally useless to you right now. Scrutinise the gold and bronze gear you have, do the small tasks on them and upgrade them for far superior functioning and looking gear.
Mug, the dark souls of nemesis'
You have having the worst luck when it comes to running into multiple captains, that almost never happened to me till I got into the second are
Area
When are you gonna do a video about the meet up at Dave & Busters? How did it go? Is it on your twitter or something? Peace!
I'm curious as well. Sounded like it would have been a great time, but I'm half the country away.
Also, lovely icon, darling.
Legit like that dude from episode one, brought this game cause I thought I'd be able to play it better than Jesse. He should get commission for the amount of sales he's throwing WBs way 😂
YOU'VE GOT COX!
Jesse how does one become a love machine like yourself?
One could say Jesse got Mugged ;)
Quit getting mad if you want to not fight a million orcs then at least try to go sneaky.
It's a bit annoying how you get sidetracked all the time. But at least you have fun with the nemesis system.
I wonder if he learns to stealth in this episode
I really hope horza comes back
ORC HYPE MAN!
