That feeling of solitude is why I still play the 1.0 version on my PS5 from time to time. I do enjoy the multiplayer aspects and interactions though, so I always start to miss that after a few days and then go back to the current version. I wish there would be entire galaxies filled with emptiness though, not just a single system like it seems they did with the expedition here. Ideally, we'd get some kind of a "parallel universe" with planet generation and gameplay of all major early versions (Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, Foundations), between which we could hop for fun. Not sure if that's even technically feasible though...
You actually hit it on the head in this video. I was super excited a decade ago what I read about no man’s sky coming out and I told my girlfriend this is cool. I get to explore a vast universe by myself and feel alone every rejoice of my accomplishments and feel despair in my failures. She said she would enjoy doing that herself exploring and I agree with you over the years they went away from that.
Something I haven't seen anyone point out is that in the patch notes page on one of the images, you can see solar ships available in the customization menu. I don't wanna say they're confirmed to be coming, but HG is 100% working on them.. I wonder if they teased it intentionally or not.
Dude, you know me. I prefer OG NMS over the current iteration. And it’s precisely what you said, the aloneness, mystery, and charm that the game lost post-NEXT. It’s why I spoofed my PS4 version back to Foundation so I can revisit it whenever I want. But Adrift excites me to no end that I’ll get a taste of that again. Can’t wait to jump in!
I think No Man's Sky has turned into a different game that I was actually hyped about before its release. It's very impressive what they've done but I feel like it lacks direction as a game at this point. It's just a big sandbox now I guess. To me, what I was excited about was this mysterious and beautiful universe where you'd discover things as you go further. It would be more focused on mystery and I imagined it would almost be a similar game to Journey, but instead you can go anywhere and fly these awesome looking space ships. A much much simpler game is what I imagined. I also preferred the minimalistic look of the ships before they clicked "enhance" and we got these very detailed ones. I imagined it would still have that kind of 'wordless storytelling' or whatever it's called. But instead we got a game filled with menus and lots of text to read. They inspired me a lot with those trailers for the game, and maybe I'll try to create a game like that one day since unfortunately I feel like no one else will, and I've felt a bit alone with this take anyway, it's hard to put it to words how something like this makes me feel, when those early NMS trailers were basically just art that made me feel a complete different emotion of awe and appreciation for beauty.
as day one player it does remind me of the old days, but I find a lot of the expeditions grind heavy, not sure the ship as final reward will make me play this but lets see
Dude.... This is a event that you can unlock permanent content with a challenge. There are things they expanded on in this update. There is still more to come this year and They have done plenty of things people wanted! Stop being so stuck up! Complain, is all you have?

Atlas Rise was peak NMS.
Stuck already. Can't get Tritium on a planet to manufacture Deuterium to repair launch thrusters. Any ideas?
O.K. Just found out you can refine Di-Hydrogen and Silicate powder to make Deuterium. Well, I never knew that!

I'm having fun so far. It's an interesting challenge having no shops or NPCs to buy from or sell to.

The sand worms now have more diverse and unique roar sounds.
I really wished the galaxies were more unique. Like galaxies centered around different update builds. Like a 1.0 galaxy and so on.
Now, THAT new starship will be a real serious alternative to my long time favourite! Pity it's from an expedition...
WHELP my plans changed after work today...
I had NMS from D1 and enjoyed those early days. I think that the game from the early days was over promised. I just enjoy all things NMS.
I don’t play expeditions, they just seem like an unnecessary grind.
But I do like some of the rewards like the ships. especially this new one.
I NEED THAT SHIP!
Thank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish they would make all abandoned planets not have ships, or make one of the 256 something galaxy’s “dead” like this
They have constantly provided updates for no cost that improve the game and you are over here crying? Get over yourself.
Well, if you have to direct that it be as well. I agree with what he said
I miss the vast alone feeling
It's an expedition... Imagine, just imagine if all that development time was put into permanent features... I SWEAR TO GOD FUCK LIMITED TIME CONTENT
