  • This is also my first attempt at video editing so.... relax. Got the bug real bad this time and decided to build a guitar amp with no prior experience in building any of this stuff. The research and assembly took about 2 months and the troubleshooting took another 2 months after that! This is a clone of the famed orange "lunchbox amp" the Tiny Terror, with the exception of the Mercury Magnetics transformer upgrades. Like and comment with any questions! I don't claim to be an expert, but I did this from the ground, up and learned many things the hard way. Thanks for watching :)

    When the darkness started playing I thought “man that amp sounds amazing” then I realized it was the original track lol great job man!

    Nice job.
    I have built a few tube amp and learned a bit along the way. If you have any noise issues try turning just one of the transformers 90* . It should help out.

    Nice sounding amp - great job for a first build. Good idea using using a double-decker turret board to save space. If you haven't figured it out already, the squealing might be caused by accidentally wiring the negative feedback circuit as positive feedback (I did that on my first build). Try switching the output transformer leads. You should be able to dime the gain without squealing.

    Thank you so much i want to build my own amp something a little bigger but your build project really does set the stage for doing things right awesome job thanks.

    Great job on the amp. I've been wanting to try to do one myself.

    i really like this video. i really like what you did with the upgrades. i have never built anything electronic but i want to build one. if i actually do this i might use stepped attenuators instead of pots for the volume etc.

    Bravo my friend, great build. Like how you made a brake and made your own chassis.

    the pine is very resonant and will color the sound quite a bit....if you don't like that then you could staple carpet or rubber sheet on the inside for dampening. cool project, thanks

      Thanks fresh bass. I through this cabinet together in about 3 seconds because I could not wait to hear the thing. Will be replacing the box soon!

    Great job man! It sounds really nice. May you please tell us how many Watts is the pots for? And where did you find the schematics? Thanks!

    awsome! i think the hum is cause by transformers it should ve perpendicular to each other try to change the orientation of the power transformer

    Awesome job. What did you use to drill holes for tube sockets? I’m going to try a scratch build and looking for a knockout set, but can find the proper sizes.

      a step-drill bit will probably get you there. i used one with good results. it is probably more labor intensive than using a punch, but if you aren't running an amplifier production line then it is fine

    Where did you get your kit for the build?

  • @TempoDrift1480
    @TempoDrift1480 5 років тому

    This was a kit? Minus the chassis and obvious parts you built or did you order every piece?

    • @MrDedham
      @MrDedham  5 років тому

      Only the "holy terror" upgrade parts came in a kit. Basically just the two transformers and the choke. All else was ordered separately.

    Hi MrDedham.
    I really enjoyed your video. As a valve-amp addict, I'm really interested in you schematics. Are you willing to share that with me/us?
    Cheers!

    Yo man great build! Do you think a beginner can build this? I only have some basic experience with electronics and may i ask how much it costs roughly to get the components and where should i get them?

    • @MrDedham
      @MrDedham  7 років тому +1

      Absolutely! Fair warning though, beware of the high voltage and take time to learn basic safety measures used in amp repair. If you don't count the specialty tools I purchased and mistakes I made along the way, this cost me around $600. Pretty good considering it includes the holy terror upgrades. TubeDepot, Antique electronic Supply and ebay got me through most of the build.

    Hello ,
    can you give me a schematic of your amp?

    • @kencohagen4967
      @kencohagen4967 6 років тому

      XThoelly me too please. Schematics and plans please! I want to build my own amp and add my own ideas to it. But this one sounds like a great starting point. In fact it sounds good enough to be the end point! But I've got to explore a little and figure out how to do my own. Any info you can send me will be a great help!
