- Product development, checking out the system, and fixing minor problems. Considering what was built and how many people were involved in designing, machining, and building the bike (one, just Andreas), to me this is bigger then the pyramids.
Here's a link to stills of his bike- www.flickr.com/photos/13481782... - Авто та транспорт
Nice job! To think Allen Millyard does these kind of modifications all on his own, in a tiny backyard shed. The two of you should meet up and compare notes.
Allen built a Beast! 2600 cc.
I was reviewing a couple of his videos this morning.
✌️
This is just an amazing project, it's hard to belive there's such skilled people around. Love it......
You know I usually don't really care for "modern" looking bikes but this one is a very large exception. I'm really impressed with how smooth it runs and goes.
It's funny,no matter what the displacement a V12 always sounds like a V12. This one reminds me of a Lamborghini Countach V12. Beautiful bike,a really testament to engineering! =)
Way more Boss than a Boss Hoss. Sounds like Thunder. Beautiful Work.
@10oooo01 I'm a retired Army Paratrooper. The most stressful thing I've ever done (by far) is ride the V12.
Not sure who's the more brilliant lunatic, this mad Afrikaaner or Allen Millyard... I salute you both!
Thank you. Andreas is the person responsible for the whole bike. He designed & built it. I used to have 4 spare CBX engines but they've been dismantled for this project. Andreas raced GP starting in '58, Bronze Replica from IOM in '65 I believe and was a Canadian Champion in the late 60/early70's. He was known as George the Greek.
Your little bike makes a delightful sound.
Not sure what is more crazy. Jumping out of planes or undertaking a project such as this. Some people just have a gift. 👍
THIS IS A SOUTH AFRICAN, WELL DONE BOITJIE.
the engine was basically a new engine. After running a bit the noises and smoking all stopped.
That thing is a demon for sure. It bellows smoke and has a roar like no other. Nice job.
Thanks for posting this - Andreas is an engineering genius.
@patrickplummer Andreas timed it like two separate inline 6 cyl engines. Ideal configuration is 60 but he went with 72 because at 60 there was not enough room for the intake manifolds or two base plates.
brilliant engineering, hope to see this beast running soon..good luck
I had half of one of these, a 6cyl CBX(B).. it went .. "..rather well.." .. I can only imagine what this could be capable of!!
very nice customisation, 5stars!
One of the most amazing things I have ever seen!
Sound like a testarossa on light rev in gear, fantastic !
Some guys are just genius when enroled in an idea and hobby !
Congrats fellas! Absolutely awesome. I had the pleasure of racing against rol's cbx1000 beast in NZ and have since had more appreciation for these lazy tourers being souped up, and yours must the ultimate sounding and engineered roadbeast. well done fellas! zol
cbxtacy man i sure wish i had half the engineering smarts you have that is just plain awesome .
you guys are too crazy. I was more amazed at what you guys were talking about then the bike that was running. Dont get me wrong, that bike is really awesome.
Wow, was für ein geiles Gerät!! Zwölf Zylinder aus zwei Reihensechszylindern auf eine Kurbelwelle gepflanzt,..zu Hause ,...sowas ist der absolute Hammer.!!
GROSSARTIG 👏👏👍😁
Pure motorcycle sex! I love the CBX1000 and you've slapped 2 engines together. The fact it's actually been done properly and not just 2 engines bolted onto 1 bike impresses the hell out of me. Excellent job.
that is awesome. sounds stunning.well done
2 sets of cylinders on a common crank. Oil pump modified for more volume/pressure. Oil returns to sump via gravity. Forward cyls are at a 10 degree incline from the crank.
Oh wow! I live in High-Point NC, which is only a few minutes away! And my dad used to live in Winston during his teenage years! But I bet that bike is crazy!!
Haha yea, my dad is one of the most motorcycle addicted people I've ever met, short of Mr. Barber of the Barber motorsports museum! :P Dad's even got two of his bikes in that museum! We've both always loved CBX's, but right now our current motorcycle collection stands in around 24 bikes. We kinda figured we didn't need anymore. Until this CBX came up for sale. And until the new VFR1200 came out. Yea, we pretty much just decided you can never have enough motorcycles! :P
Sometimes my humor gets the best of me. Last saturday I rode my '82 CBX 250 miles. That's more then the V12 will get in the next year. There are not many common parts between the two bikes in the engine that have not been extensively modified to create the V12. Lot's of things are new, pistons, rings, valve job etc. New exhaust. Burning paint, oil, and running a little rich. Cylinders laying down that used to be upright. Oiling system/cam chain tensioners highly modified. It started first try.
It is 2022, and it is the first time I've heard someone talk about the notorious Honda clutch rattle ! Trinidad & Tobago.
Incroyable le travail réalisé, félicitations!!
Pretty awesome...I have owned 2 '79 CBXs love them..
@10oooo01 Andreas is currently working on an H16 engine. He's using 4 sets of Yamaha YZF600 engines. You can find photo's in my flickr.com photo account. Search for cbxtacy
@505197 throws are 72 degrees apart. Ideal for a V12 is 60. Andreas went with 72 because at 60 there was not enuogh room for the intakes or the cylinder base. He has two cbx ignitions on it and the firing order is (in degrees) 72,48,72,48,72,48,72,48,72,48,72,48. It's all brand new construction with lots of fresh header paint to cure. Also two of the cylinders had an overabundance of fuel. Those both contributed to the smoking. Neither is a problem now and it doesn't smoke anymore.
Fred Robbins built it, his brother still has a salvage yard around there. The bike was called "The Eliminator" engine was sideways (like it should be) with a centrifical clutch. Rear wheel was 12" (had a 14 also) wide with a big drag slick on it.
@10oooo01 feels like a 600lb CBX with twice the power all the way from idle to redline. Immediate power the instance you grab a handful of throttle. Big problem is large displacement (2100cc's) with lack of flywheel effect. Crank was lightened to make room for 6 extra rods and when you let off the throttle the engine wants to idle. Very easy to slide the rear wheel. Needs a slipper clutch and Andreas is working on one.
@YakoffShmirnoff modified the existing one. Cut the throws wider to accomodate two rods that have been cut down, Added a second cam sprocket to the crank so he didn't have to use an extremely long cam chain. He has another crank and engine bits to convert the bike to gear drive cams. He just needs two VF1000R gear cassettes to finish the conversion.
Music directly from heaven
usually i dont like v12 sounds, but this one.... woohoo and just congrats for that truly incredible build
sounds sweeeeeeeeet. take my hat off to anyone that can engineer machines like this.
For me, the perfect sound of motorcycling.
incredible piece of engineering
Hilariously, brilliantly, technically mad. At exactly which point did you think, "I know, I'll stick two CBX engines together and see what happens. Utterly brilliant in every way.
Haha, I have no doubt that from what you describe of Andreas, if anyone could do it he could! ;)
And yes, a 6-6 is awesome on a CBX. My dad had a CBX years and years ago which he sold to a friend. Well soon after I posted my first comment here, that friend decided he wanted to sell his CBX, as its not run in over 10 years. So my dads going to buy it back. Its got the stock 6-2 on it now, there's a new 6-1 waiting for it in a box, and a new PipeMasters 6-6 is currently being looked into!
because this bike loose so much smoke through the exhaust?, she is burning oil, or fuel and?
I met Andreas at a friend's place and watched him methodicly work on the 8 cylinder bike to get it running after almost two years of storage. Interesting guy that knows his stuff.
I have a 6 into 6 I've put on one of my X's occasionally. It gives it a sound like nothing else. Kind of a staccato like a top fueler. You're right, Motorhead, a 12 into 12 would give a sound unique (and addictive). I've discussed it with Andreas before and we both laughed (but there was a glint in his eyes).
Very nice job Sir. I've been Building Race Engines my entire adult life. Generally I would never make a suggestion or recommendations without the subject in my hands, but consider tungsten slugs installed into what's left of the crankshaft counterweights. I understand narrowing the counterweights to allow clearance for the side by side rod configuration, but if tungsten can be added, it will help with positive flywheel effect. Again, very nice. 🇺🇸🏍🇺🇸
3 words: OH MY GOD!!!
That thing is awesome!!! I clicked on this video thinking it was a typo... V12 CBX, pfft, yea right... Video loaded and my jaw just dropped!
Only thing that disappointed me was the lack of a 12 into 12 exhaust. Get right on that will you! ;) hahaha just kidding, that thing is incredible, awesome work! I would love to see a video on the making of the bike, especially the engine work! That would be cool! Keep the video's coming!
He definitely needs an 12 to 1 equal length header exhaust.
The I6 already sounds like a Formula 1 car, i cant immagine how itll sound with 12 Cylinders.
The video titled "amazing" is the first time the bike ran. Ever. You can see the amazement in Andreas' face. It started easier then my stock 82 CBX. It weighs the same as an early CBX (even with all the extra engine) and has a 57" wheelbase. Andreas is 68 years old and spent 1/10th of his life building it. To me what's amazing is the light weight, suspension geometry, and the ease with which it started.
That is a KLR650. Last year Andreas shipped the bike to Columbia South America and rode to South Argentina (where the paved road ends) and back to Columbia. There he sold the bike for return fare to the USA.
I met Andreas a few years back when he had his 8 cylinder stored at my Buddies. Interesting qwerky guy with alot going on upstairs. He has some cool bikes.
The reason I asked if you ride, is they are generally very impractical, emotional vehicles. Everyone rides for a different reason.
I can't imagine he had the slightest interest in building the bike as a circuit bike or corner slayer. There are lots of bikes that are faster, lighter, etc. But not many functioning V12's built in a guys garage! Just appreciate it for what it is, not what it isn't.
OH WOW! Now I've seen it all!!!! AMAZING!!
wow, your my new heroe, beautiful, its machine art.
I notice the angle of the engine. Its almost like part boxer and inline engine. How does the lubrication on this works anyway?
front cyl's are inclined up from the crank at 10 degrees and gravity is used to return the oil. The engine has stopped smoking and it's seen 10,000 rpm. Heat is a problem. running down the road it's okay but when stopped the bike just cooks. Andreas is now installing insulation under the tank to keep the gas cool, on the covers around the exhaust, and wrapping the pipes.
@randyrhoadesRIP Ruined is a relative term. That is the best part of a free market. If he had the money to buy 2 or more of the best motorcycles ever, then he is free to do what he wants with them. If you want to preserve one in pristine condition and then keep it in your garage in one of those inflatable bubble things, but don't hate on others who use theirs. A guy in my car club has a 1942 Ford street rod. Most of us want it to be stock, but it is his car and he can do what he wants with it.
To bad the convo was cut short, was very intresting to hear what they had to say.
Awesome looking machine.
and speaking of nuggets of wisdom, in the late 60's Andreas built a 4 cyl race bike utilizing a Honda car engine, two CR72/77 cylinder heads on the car engine, used either a Matchless or Norton frame (I don't remember), and raced it. I have pic's of it infront of Agostini, Vesco, Cooper, Duhamel etc. He raced from 58 through 74. Bronze Replica from IOM and Canadian Nat ional Champion. He was known as George The Greek.
Amateur question but why is there so much smoke coming out after the engine is off?
Nice design, I like it a lot
@cbxtacy i thought it was maybe a noisy cam chain or a clutch....i had a CB450K that had a clutch that sounded just like that and a CB400SS that had a similar noise coming from the cams. good to see it went away.
as did want to give me an idea of the CBX motor attached 1047c.c 1980 to be a V12 engine that I have the helmet instead of working and the crankshaft is the same as measures taken to tornealo to take two pistons in elbows.
Please
@cbxtacy
Candy Glory Red. A special color which is extremely difficult to reproduce or to touch up.
Yep. And other bikes Andreas has around the garage are a Ducati 916, and a Ferrari Dino powered motorcycle. It's the second Dino powered bike he's built. It's supercharged with a blower he built out of a big chunk of aluminum. I'm going to take more videos and more pic's in a week. It's been way too long since I've posted something new. You can find pic's in my flickr photo account under the name cbxtacy.
This is really cool, and the amount of engineering is hugely appreciable. But oh those beautiful CBX's...Do you have at least 1 CBX? I don't know that the motorcycle gods would be too pleased unless some homage were paid. They are soooooo cool .I own a 1980 CB 900 (U.S. spec) and I have always loved and wanted a CBX for 2 up riding here in Colorado.
@Rick258442 seeing as how safety is Andreas main consideration, he's also replacing the engine with a series 550 Briggs & Stratton at a later date.
I have one in the Barber Museum. Last time I was there they were still working on it.
nice bike and great build but one question: why does it smoke so much? dont think thats normal..
I've mounted a video camera facing forward on my wifes beemer with good results and on my 82 CBX facing rearward with good results. The next video (s) I post here will be the V12 chasing an 82 CBX or being chased by a beemer R1200R. Should I do the videos this weekend or do yardwork?
Good Job .....wonderful bike
but what's the smoke out of exhaust !
Needs 3 things, 1) A 8-10" longer swing arm. 2) A helmet. 3) A set of leathers...
I put a turbo on one back in the early 80's and it would stand up at 100 mph in 3rd gear roll-on. SCARY!!!
the journals were machined to make them wider and the rods were cut down.
How's that sound!! Wicked baby.
markdam- honda knew the cbx was a flop and thats why production was short lived. i can also state my brothers friends had purchased them new and shortly after traded them in, one even dropped money in after market parts. i ridden a couple of them and the only nice thing i can say, they run smooth. i still state i'm more interested in the machining of this than the bike itself. timing, cam, crank spacing of the rods ect. that is impressive, he needs to do a video on how it was done.
Truly awesome!!
Sounds like a 6 in line because the cylinders work in mirror mode? Congratulations ! I would like to see the crankshaft, must be a master piece.
you guys are damn awesome......sounds lika Lambo...on two wheels..Hats off
Oh thats cool, is it a CBX you've got there or something else? The bikes we've got in there aren't even streetbikes, there's a 1986 Honda Trail 110 that my grandpa purchased new, and its got less than 250 miles on it. The only un-origional part on it is the fuel line. The second bike is a 1999 Honda Z50, which was the last one my dad could find for sale locally after Honda announced they were stopping production. Its never even had gas in the tank, let alone started! :)
Awesome bike 👍👌
All the big Hondas had chain primary drive and they all rattled, because their engineers weren't as good as Suzuki's, who's only ever used gears. Apart from on their wankel. That's why the drag race tuners loved them and never used hondas.!
That's a brave bit of engineering though mate, hats off.!
Is this going to be for sale???
So...200hp if your lucky? How much does it wiegh? Looks cool tho
It sounds like it must be fireing 2 cylinders at once, in fact it has to dosen't it, using the existing throws it'd ha, hmm, now I'm confused, I always have a hard time picturing stuff like this. It didn't sound like a V-12 to me but more like a 6. Maybe it's just the camera. You can smoke test the exhaust system to look for a small leak. I'd had one hole of a carb stand out and be noticable above the others and be bothersome sounding. Very nice piece of work, my hat is off.
What's the firing order?
Mannnn,,,, that thing sound's just like a 72 Ferrari Daytona with that nice 4,4 liter Colunbo V-12
what music,
woooow.
Sounds like a beast! What are those 550's putting out these days 5-6hp?
@330ibeemer He's a Greek-born and raised in South Africa and now calls La Jolla, CA home for most of the year and has Canadian citizenship.
What a cool !! I like it!
Haven't read all the comments to check if this has been answered already, but a decent cooling airflow to the front bank of cylinders is a likely problem.
I gotta say, the sound isn't anywhere near as good as I'd expected. Maybe better doing a V8 (two 4 cyl. engines), although that depends upon achieving the optimum V8 firing order. A good V8 sound is music to the ears.
Im a bit confused because the sites are probably giving misleading information, but did you mate two CBX inlines together or is that a 12cyl engine out of something?
how fast can it be
why so much oil?nice sound and this monster problably has 10-11 tons of torgue
damm shes beautiful whats the engine capacity 2 Litres???
8 years, Mark, 8 years. 15 years ago Andreas will still working on his Ferrari Dino (with blower (he built the blower)) powered bike.
Even using a 1966 Volvo P1800 engine for any custom made motorcycle is a must lasting greater than four million miles.
A Chevy V8 drag bike built in Winston Salem, NC a while back. I got it from the builder who bracket raced it and after working on it for a while I decided it needed professionals to finish it. It was getting expen$ive and scary.
Are you sure if that oil burned .....?
Could you please post videos of you doing stunts and wheelies on this bike.
Thanks
