And they had the audacity to replace it with a weak Charlie and the Chocolate factory ride. That barely survived a few years and is now some dungeons experience that you have to pay extra for. Downgrade after downgrade!
This must have been taken towards the end of the ride’s lifespan. I remember Sonic’s head used to turn from side to side when you entered the SEGA section.
I remember going on this when I was very little and I was terrified, One thing I remember very clearly is the teddybears and how freaked out I was by them. Although I wish it was still running, it'd be interesting to ride it again now that I'm older.
Katelin The same happened to me on Pirate Adventure at Drayton Manor. I rode it once when I was very young but never rode it again. It terrified me! When it closed I was gutted I never tried it again!
went on this ride the same year it opened pretty good memories even though i was just 4 at the time, really enjoyed it especially the sonic room, it was actually the only time coincidently i ever went to alton towers i wish i would have seen it again a couple of times prior to closing.
The designers of this ride put so much effort and heart into it its a real shame it closed the year before I was born but at least we have footage of it still
This ride was my childhood. Along with its retheme Charlie, I grew up with this ride when I went for my first rides in 2005 and then my first ride on Charlie in 2006 (opening year). So many memories came flooding back watching this ride footage
once autumn starts, I find myself coming back to this video a lot. My trips to Alton Towers were normally in October for Scarefest, so Alton Towers is very much a autumn thing for me, with Toyland Tours being my favourite ride, I loved the floating feeling as you went around. So sad its no longer around. I really hope they bring it back with upgrades and improvements. It'd get so much attention
I remember this was the only ride I could get my mum to go on...I remember we used to stay on the ride and go round more than once if the operator would let us... Its a shame we can never ride it again.
It's like "it's a small world" with toy and Sonic the Hedgehog! (and a song that is not as gun, but it's still very catchy and I want an mp3 of the Sonic segment!
No, I believe the sonic statue is with the Toyland tours remains in storage or scrapped, a new sonic statue was put outside of sonic spinball and is now outside magic HQ since sonic spinball closed
@@harryfoley2294 I hope it's still in fairly good condition, especially after seeing what the Sonic and Sally statue from Sega World Sydney looks like now.

I know it’s nostalgia talking and I don’t really remember much from the ride apart from Sonic, but it’s criminal that the UK used to have really fun and unique dark rides for kids that gave us the “Disney” feel, and now they’ve all been replaced.
Theres a lot of animatronics and props not working in this video, and a lot of the original lighting just forgotten about which is a shame. Still, its better than the two pieces of crap they have replaced it with since.
Genuinely I think it was a catastrophe they replaced this with Charlie and the chocolate factory. The new ride was completely soulless and lacking in character. I’d love it if Alton Towers restored the original ride just as it was with sonic and the dancing hippo right at the end! Make it happen! Anything is possible!
Hi! I'm creating a documentary about the history of the Blackhole. Would you mind me using some of this footage in my video. Full credit will be given on the video and a link to your channel in the description. Thanks!
I still hate how this got replaced with charlie and the chocolate factory. I mean that rise looked dated when it was new this one still looks impressive now.
i agree with all these comments that willy wonka is crap and it cost 8million to make willy wonka. so much fun toyland tours even though ive never been on it, but looking at the video makes me wish i went on it before they retired the ride
Such joyful memory. Thank you 🙏🙏
Sonic and THAT jingle are the only things I can remember about this ride! Once you hear that jingle, IT NEVER LEAVES!!!
R.I.P. Toyland Tours 1994-2005
McPizzaPerson but this was uploaded in 2008
Toyland tours actually stayed till 2007
2006
Alex Holland it didn't

@@grahamedeI’m sure they did that to coincide with the Tim Burton Wonka movie with Johnny Depp.
@@adultmoshifan87Sort of I guess at the time.
Technically video games are a toy... an amazing toy with awesome scores, unforgetable characters, and timeless memories.
What about bouncy castles? Do they count as a toy?
Yeah

This must cost loads to maintain it daily! So many animatronics and moving things!
its not operated anymore
Which is why some of the stuff is broken in the video
That's cool so thiers actual footage of this ride with the sonic section in it that's absolutely fantastic
