Mary Wilson is an "entertainer". She was there. She lived the dream. She was the one on stage with Diana and Flo and later Cindy. She has a right to sing these songs and make people happy. It doesn't matter whether she sounds like Diana or not. It's called "show business". It's a business. She is trying to earn a living and make people happy. She isn't pretending to sound like Diana. She never will sound like her. But isn't it incredible......just unbelievable.....that she is 75 and still doin' it and glamorous and people WANT to come to see her perform and sing these songs.....and other songs that might be more right for her vocal range.......in PERSON? I say, God Bless Mary Wilson.
Mary is a burst of Motown Realness! I loved her gracious energy on Dancing with the Stars! People wonder what the tattoo on her arm is and it’s the name of her son that was killed in the car crash back in the ‘90’s.
JUST LOOK AT THEM, EVEN NOW, COMPARED TO WHAT WE 'VE GOT HERE, NOW!!!!!!! STILL, SUPREME (ING)!!!!!!!!! DO ME SOMETHING PROUD, MARY !!!!!!!!! KEEP ON ROLLIN AND BURNING, BAAABEEEE!!!!!
Sometimes it just has to be pointed out! I have never seen Mary Wilson in person, but I have seen her in many videos on UA-cam, and I have seen him sing background for her for years. I also recognized him as Carlton, the choir director, on Greenleaf. Oddly enough, I never put the two together to realize it was the same person.
It's so unfair how the world purposely ignores Mary Wilson and always makes a big deal about Diana Ross the way she treated Mary in Florence was horrible why won't they give Mary Wilson her just do why does Diana Ross get the presidential medal and Mary Wilson always left out you can tell it's all unfair and done purposely I wish someone would give Mary Wilson what she deserves while she could still hear it
The problem is that people always want her to sing Supremes songs. She sings them as she doesn't want to dissapoint anyone, but they were not written in her key and they are way to soft (sometimes pop-music-like) to be sung by her. She's really great on standards, blues, ballads or jazz, as some of those videos proof it. She can even do rock. If that song is in her key, she can sound wonderful and can relax you very, very easily with her vocals and music. I would love to hear her singing some Billie Holiday songs, to proof her qualities.
Its always nice that Mary Always mentions Florence Ballard when she talks about them Supremes. Unlike Diana who talks more about Cindy Birdsong when it comes to the Supremes.
SHE S ALREADY STEPPED INTO THOSE LEGENDARY SHOES OF HERS AND SHE IS JUST WEARING THEM AS SHE DAMN WELL PLEASES, TOO, AS A WORLDWIDE, SUPREME SUPERSTAR, 50 PLUS YRS, NOW. SHE PAID HER DUES AS THE BEAUTIFUL, BLACK SUPREME SHE IS AND , " NOBODY CAN TOUCH THEM " ., THEY DID THEIR THANG!!!!! AND VERY SUPREMELY, WELL!!!!!
@@cravendubose8179 You are the one who told the lie. Dianah was not pretty in most people's books, even with gowns, wigs, and excessive makeup. She was, in fact, below average in looks. Mary with her doll face was always a natural beauty. Even Dianah herself boasted that Mary was the pretty one in the group. Dianah did the best with what she had, but she knew she was no beauty. Even Mowtown had to tell Dianah to stop stretching her bulging eyes and her unusually wide mouth. We live in a culture wherein anybody who dons tailor-made clothes is often dubbed a great beauty. Still, that definition never fit Dianah.
@@sandraatkins2539 don't matter what you think, DIANA , BECAME THE STAR .The other two didn't have star qualities. Didn't see all that so called beauty in them, but Diana stole my HEART and she still has it.
Wilson is a good singer but those songs belong to Ross. They were written for her unique sounding voice...I don't think anyone can really do justice to those songs but Ross because we automatically think of her when hearing them...Wilson is much more powerful and soulful and sings the hell out of ballads and jazz.....I wish she could have found her niche instead of lowering herself to singing perky Ross songs that no one wants to hear by her
The songs were not made for her. Especially sung in her deep husky voice. She can't even hit the notes and she's flat in many places. If she would go ahead and sing the song instead of all that talking in the middle to cover up the bad singing. She was great as a background singer. RIP Mary
Mary can sing songs in her key very well. She shouldn't have her audience or anyone else ask her to sing songs in Diane's key. She is raw and real! I can see why Diana used to look up to her and try to emulate her natural beauty. It was nice that some of Diana's kids were in the audience cheering her on! I wish somebody would post video of them there.
This is what Diana said about Mary in her book. I NEVER HAD TO SHAKE MY ASS TO GET A MAN.....that don't sound like someone she looked up to or emulated please...Mary couldn't compete with Diana just being pretty...Diana had the whole package...Mary was just pretty in a generic kind of way...Diana was unusual...exotic...different...Mary was pretty...that's about it.
Mary and Florence were not only more talented that Diane (her real name) but more beautiful. When I would look at Diane with those skinny legs and big popped-out eyes, and that high, nasal voice, I would imagine a cross between Minnie Mouse and Betty Boop.
@@dressmakersdummy54 with Mary good looks (even at 76 years old), popularity and money, she would give a rat's behind what you call her. She's a millionaire and could buy and sell you twice.
The only constructive criticism I'll give is .... looks a little silly to wear an evening dress / gown for a daytime, outdoor show. She could wear something a little more suitable and still have some bling to fit the celebrity protocol.
Mary was the beauty, Flo was the cuttie and Diana the beastie, but come on, Marys voice is awful now. Give it up, retire, stick to the church and gospel not the shows. I do agree that Diana was lifted above the other two. Maybe Gordey was blinded by love. Should have been fairness though. Motown was a great time for music, some of the best and the songwriters and producers did a great job. The artists were just part of the team and not the complete deal.

“The song never dies just the singer” - The Cooper Brothers.
She is more of a backup singer. Not that she can't sing. She is more of a blender. Perfect with Flo. I bet their singing and dancing in heaven.
That's my friend Parnell Damone singing background for Mary. He's also been on, "Greenleaf" and a bunch of other shows and movies...

Diana doesn't sing her own leads as well as she once did...... People have to remember that all of their voices over 60 yrs. has aged.
