I grew up at the southern edge of the Everglades but I also spent plenty of time in the Lake Okeechobee area, fishing and partying. Had some great times. I can't vouch for Florida now as I moved out in 2001. I go back to visit around once a year and a lot has changed. Mostly a LOT of new development.
The excellent narration speaks of isolation, poverty, depopulation, crime and probabale lack of future potential. The video shows all this unequivocally. A perfect place to put an even more isolated seperate community that you have to see and hear about to believe. I have never been here but I have been to areas very near this on multiple occasions. The excellent technical work really makes one feel they are actually there from the color and brightness of the sky, tropical foliage and architectural details to name a few. As is most often the case it is not one thing but a constellation of things that matter. I see nobody better at this than Chris.
I've been following you since your review on Dolton IL, which I live near by. Great coverage. I was wonder if you will be doing a review on Lehigh Acres, FL, I was planing to move there until the cost of living in Florada sky rocketed. Thanks for all your videos and keep up the good coverage.
Maybe one day. My audience doesn’t really dig Florida videos. Hard to justify making more trips down there to film videos if most ppl won’t watch. I do go to Florida occasionally so whenever I’m down there I’ll likely film at least a few videos per trip.
I started watching your videos about a week ago when I discovered your Chicago Heights, IL video, loved it! You should do a video about pocahontas, IL. If you are ever nearby.
An interesting place. Human life brings so many interesting facets to what one would think would think be just like home but maybe different weather or plants and animals. You have one of the most in-depth dives into these individual communities in your mini series compared to some “big name” UA-camrs. I have never not been educated by you and I appreciate every video.
From kissimme and drove by Pahokee and it was amazing. The nature , houses and farms were such a stark difference. Doing more research now and didnt know it was so "bad" there were wonderful spaced out houses on the waters on the hills . Wonderful rodes and again the nature surrounding everything >>. There was a town thay was like completely abandoned and im assuming this vid is more inland ?
I've driven through here several times and the blue corner gas station at the three way intersection is probably one of the most sketchy looking convenience stores ever.
Poverty in both places is unreal yet 45 minutes east is abundant wealth. The very stark difference between two opposite sides of palm beach county is shocking.
I wish there was SOMEPLACE in the world where us poor people could live in peace without the crime and decay. There ARE actually some of us who would like some sort of quality of life and respect the places we live.
@@ChrisHardenyeah I live in the area and it’s pretty great. Tight community and good people for the most part. You’ll have shitty people trying to play gangster in most cities but it’s not as bad as places like Miami or Broward county. Housing prices aren’t terrible either
HI, I am an American that lives in the UK. A lot towns are dying here like the towns in the midwest and other parts that are shown on this channel. Also crime and poverty is rising here like parts of the US.
Personal circumstances. I was born in England and had an American mother. I've lived in both places. There's a lot of towns here. Especially up north that are dying with the crime rates going up.
I remember that Belle Glade had the highest AIDS rate in the country during the 80’s. Although he’d be unknown to most these days, country singer Mel Tillis is also from the area.
The area I’m in is wild. You can be driving by a bunch of ratty singe wide trailers, then a giant gated mansion and tons of land, then back to run down houses with some decent ones in the mix.
Have a really "Off The Wall" question. Being so close to the water table, how does the sewer system work??? Sorry for the strange question but was just curious how they get the FALL for the main sewer lateral.
Usually, a shallow gravity sewer will discharge into a deep well where it is then pumped at pressure to a treatment plant where it is treated, unless there is heavy rains that overload the system, then the overflow is released untreated to the discharge.
I won’t trust me. It’s a fine place to go on vacation but not a good place too live. Way too many people. In the next twenty years, that place will be just as crowded as Southern California. Growth isn’t a bad thing, but an unhealthy amounts of growth will cause serious problems with transportation issues and unaffordable housing. People need to learn from Californias mistakes. And it doesn’t matter who you vote for. The more housing shortages and running out of room to grow, will cause housing and places that will be just as unaffordable as San Francisco and LA. I’ll just stay here in Ohio where the cost of living is lower and where investors here or not buying our properties like hotcakes like they are in Florida. And that’s actually one of the main problems as well.
Alligator is one the most expensive types of leather. The luxury leather is mostly shipped and tanned in France. Items made from the hides run into the thousands. Just because there are alligators in Florida, it doesn't make the finished goods cheaper than anywhere else.
Labelle is the fanciest of the Everglades towns. It's a shame that there are so many African descendants in Pahokee as if there was a better group of people it would be a far better experience. Florida City is no better but 10 times more expensive.

I just experienced how different the opposite sides are yesterday and it was shocking . An eye opener. Two different worlds . Speechless

I've lived in both countries throughout my life so far. I was born in England. But I moved to live in New York when I was 4 years old.
This Hilljack town is famous for being the subject of the county music song 'I'm Just An Okie Dokie From Pahokee' by Jonny Cash
Oh yes, one of his more well known songs

I wish you had turned right at 13:06 to better see that creepy yellow building!!
Thanks!
Thank you!
I grew up in Pahokee so you need to fact check because you said the new High School opened in 1998 but I graduated from there in 1996
Good I saw this video. I was looking to move and found a house at Pahokee. I was about to start working with a realtor to get it. Your vid same me
@2:40 Florida had a freshwater lake bigger than Lake Superior??? I find that hard to believe!!!
He said entirely in the US. Lake Superior is in both the US and Canada.
Mentions a video about South bay but I can't find it posted on the channel. Must have decided to post this one first.
It’ll be back up in a few weeks my apologies
The best thing about it was that so few ppl have to live there
I grew up here not so bad. We get a lot of money for the schools tho which is a plus.
I used to pick up palm trees there
sounds perfect...
I wonder if there are Catholic Priests in miracle village.
Lol
I don't know, but I do know they're all men. Which is shocking to no one.
I would not live in Florida.I have a brother in Cocoa Beach.

The Ford Heights of Florida!😮
