- Belle Glade, Florida is one of the most poverty stricken and high crime cities in the state. Unemployment is twice the national average. Abandoned buildings and homes are common in many areas. Located in Palm Beach County with a population of 16,728 people. Amenities are few, jobs are hard to come by, and not much to do around this place. Upside is cost of living is much lower than most areas in Florida, if you have a job. Let's take a drive and check out some of the worst area's.
people seem to have a tendency to throw trash anywhere, except into the trashcan
There are some pretty sad looking homes there with pretty nice looking vehicles parked outside.
Back in the day this was a major sport fishing town on lake okeechobee. People came from all over the world to fish it. Then the army core of engineers ruined the lake around the 80’s. A lot of these buildings were mom & pop motels. Fish died, business died, most of the towns around the lake died. No jobs. A sad ending to a once booming area. 10:41
I always think of Clewiston as the center for fishing on Lake O. Belle Glade was more where the cane workers stayed during harvest time. I suspect most of the deterioration is due to the fact that cane workers aren't needed anymore. Last time I was thru Belle Glade, even the hospital looked like it was closed. The parking lot was used as storage by a local tractor dealer.
Tragic how much terrible poverty there is in America.
🙁
Despite homes and buildings being abandoned and the area stricken by poverty, I took the time to visit Belle Glade and saw that it’s actually quite a beautiful place deep down.
This is when I delivered a HVAC permit to a client’s house at my previous job.
A friend of mine is a sheriffs deputy for Palm Beach County (PBSO), I did a ride along with him out there on a Saturday night, that was interesting! Most of the 2 story buildings were built for Sugar Cane workers that would come to town to harvest the sugarcane by hand before self propelled harvesting equipment was introduced, a lot of those building only have ONE restroom and/or shower in them!
These liminal spaces are intriguing yet horrifying at the same time, and each has its individual story. It's crazy to think of these places once humming with life and on contrast seeing them nowadays. Great video, keep it up!
Had all 4 wheels stolen off our car there all most 50 years ago. this is not a new thing but a way of life.
Belle Glade Florida was one of the towns on Lake Okeechobee that got devastated by the 1928 Palm Beach Hurricane 🌀
I used to live in Belle Glade in the early 70's....stayed just long enough to move out. It looked like this back when
Living by the and in the Everglades.....for me not a happy place. Clewiston and South Bay is close by also.
At least Clewiston has a WalMart!
It's so sad, but in reality coming to a city near you. Be prepared. Get out ahead of the decay if you can.
Life in a shack with a brand new Tahoe.
This is pretty bad. Nice cars and trucks, can't say much about the housing. If I were those chickens I'd be scared to death. Thanks for sharing.
No tents and very little litter.. MUCH nicer than San Francisco...
It's funny to the east is Palm Beach known for it's large mansions and multi million dollar houses.
Haiti 2 in Palm Beach County, one of the wealthiest in the nation
sad to see the towns go bad.. not enough income to keep them up.
Wow, just saw a “Cingular” store.
Don't know if it is still there, but Belle Glade had one of the coolest hardware stores I had ever been in. A lot of vintage scooters and hardware hanging all over the place.. It might still be in business. Last time I was there was about 8 years ago.
I don’t recall seeing many mobile homes/trailer parks in your other vids. These were some of the oldest, sorriest, and saddest mobile homes I’ve seen. I can only imagine what other trailer parks there, and around the country, must look like. 😢
So many chickens roaming around!
Though it is clearly much much worse based on this video, this area was already heading this way 30 years ago.
'Belle Glade (and the surrounding area) is sometimes referred to as "Muck City" due to the large quantity of muck, in which sugarcane grows.'
Migrant farm workers. Not much else except (with Pahokee) lot of good football players.
Happiness is no longer available 😢. Take it upon yourselves and start getting this place in order. You start and they will come.
"Her Soil Is Her Fortune"
What soil?
What fortune? 🤦♂️
You'd have also been surprised had you driven through Runyon village or pelican bay, a couple of the old migrant worker communities that look as if they were a section of a shantytown taken straight out of Haiti or Jamaica. My father used to operate the water plants for the communities and I remember the road to get there being so ruined by the cane trucks that I was afraid it would break our truck's suspension every time we drove on it.
Too late for many of these places, but there should be laws to make property owners keep a minimum standard on their property. Maybe there is in some places, but it should be enforced.
Good luck with enforcing a bank to maintain a property it can't sell...
How does everyone manage to have a decent car despite such poverty? 🤔
I saw quite a few of them. I wish I had one of those pickups.
Priorities, I suppose. I live in a $750K mortgage-free house in Broward County. And drive a 16 year old vehicle.
Priorities.
Everything ain't what it seems or appears as I'm from there now in NYC from DC from Miami 😊😅😂❤
My thoughts exactly.
They live in such poverty yet they are driving nice cars.
Always opportunities for investment.
Same county as the rich 🤑 and famous?!
Generational poverty is real 😪.
it would be so nice to make these places better. perhaps a comprehensive program would help. Maybe it's not too late. Right? 😞😮😟
One of the poorest places in the state. Bring the dozers in and start over
I fish near by this area and know who runs the town n lives there..... One shouldn't even drive through here after dark.. Most of Florida is booming not in this place.. be well.
That any place in America should look like this is a disgrace but if you don't have any money, this is what you get.
This is how OverTown in Miami Florida looks, just it’s own world.
I have miami on the channel including overtown check it out thanks!
Florida's Detroit 😢
Most definitely
we are entering in a bad timeline.
Thanks! Here a chicken, there a chicken, everywhere a chicken chicken ...
🐔🐓🐥🐤
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! 🍗🍗
Thanks so much Linda! At one point I went around a bend and one almost jumped in lol
@@hoodsnhollers
🤣🤣🤣
Thought I was looking at Ft. Pierce it looks just the same.
New or almost new vehicles? Maybe buy used and there’ll be more money for better housing. Or work on credit so both are an option. And I’m not saying that as someone “privileged”. Far from it. But I had to realize that personal accountability and wiser choices get you farther.
Ya would think .... Even being poor one can still keep what ya have cleaned up.. smh.
most of the people rather have the Bling, they don't care where they live as long as they have a nice car. It is sad
I remember as a child driving into Belle Glade with my father. I knew I would never go back there !!!!
Another one for the books
I watch these type of videos all of the time and I have to say this is some of the worst infrastructure I've seen. It has to be depressing to actually live there.
No jobs, no hope. Then everything falls apart.
This area has always been very poor and rundown
Some of the people walking and on the balconies look souless and empty such a rundown existence ,Have had hard times. but this is another level of degradation.
Ruff town !!
Hoods n hollers goes everywhere
nothing happened here. It has always been like this
Not money but
PRIDE IN WHERE YOU LIVE
they al went to Philly Kensington
You know it's hood when you see the sneakers draped over the power lines
I work at a very upscale hotel in Washington and there are sneakers on the light post above the lobby window - they are everywhere!😸
Not one nice building.
Who are the city council members for this city. These people have no one to represent them.
Been to a lot of places in this country, and never seen such poverty as I have in belle glade. I live in the same county but it’s not the same world. The area has so much natural beauty though, super tall palms and fruit trees growing wild everywhere. Interesting place!
My home town 😊❤ as it created more great people then many big cities! 🤔
Lived in pahokee and went to school in Belle glade. St Peter school and east lake.
It looks like some of the projects in New Orleans.
Actually there are areas all over the country like this.
I've been to Florida a couple times and don't care to ever go back!
Florida is great. But I don’t recommend this part.
Looks like Detroit
Detroit is uploaded on the channel check it out thanks !
Cops drive 2 cars at a time in belle glade
I met a few classmates from Belle Glades. I don't know if they even went back there to live after they graduated. It is part of Palm Beach County and they should keeo it up like how the other places look. Some areas such as Green Acres look way better than this town. There aren't enough shade trees in that place.
A lot of the stuff is old and rundown but it’s really cute especially at Christmas ❤
I want to know what is up with all the feral chickens. Do people catch and eat them? Get the eggs? Or do they just reproduced and eat the garbage in the street?
Sure looks rough, never new about such City.
Thanks!
Thank you so very much!
My family is from South Bay, which is basically BG, but I can attest that the poverty in this city is scary. They shut the jail down years ago, I know cause a couple cousins of mine worked there. If you live here you most likely work in wpb, cause pk, bg, South Bay have nothing to offer for work.
Very sad!!
I can never understand how people can’t figure out, if there is nothing for them there- just go somewhere else !
I left my hometown a few years after high school as there were no jobs. Well, guess what, got a job and I’m obviously not still in that town. Common Sense, nothing more.
I still visit every blue moon but man I tell ya. If you can live in Belle Glade, Florida you can live ANYWHERE and not be scared of NOTHING or NOBODY. Believe that!
Looks like Puerto Rico ... everyone has a new car or suv but then infrastructure is falling apart .
Those are some skinny chickens :/
Ok the rooster at 10:28 looks plump and sassy. the rest were kinda scrawny.
Not enough money to buy food for them.
Glad i don't live there !
I was a legal aid attorney in Belle Glade for 2 years. 1976-78
Não imaginava vêr, lugares assim, nos Estados Unidos.🤷♀️
Who is paying for the house tax? I just saw one house for 75k and $2500 on tax, I guess they are all a home owners and none of the old houses appears on Zillow so how you can get an abandon house ?
Lots of space
7:48 just saying
Aren’t there better areas to view in Belle?
No homeless tent camps on the streets. Looks like everyone is driving a nice car. No junk cars setting around. Most of the litter is kept in the trash cans.
Cleaning up 😮 get done
THE REAL FLORIDA
I pray that everyone there that has dreams of getting out, gets out of there..... so sad to see
1:44 sure is a lot of people sitting around. They don't even look old or retired.
With 100,000 people moving in to Florida every year. They can go into Belle Glade and clean it up by demolishing the abandon homes and buildings and build new homes and businesses.
People still live there😮
Ghost town. I'm sure one day a developer will come and change things around.
Is It USA??? 😮
SAD
I love Bell Glade
👍🏾🤗
Gentrification coming possibly?
This area will be gentrified soon. Buy now if you can!
I like the chickens all over the place 😅
Looks like Haiti came to America.
If this is near the beach, it will get gentrified.
Kind of looks like Mexico.
3:32 When the building that looks like it should be a bank is actually a church 😳
is it even part of USA?
