don’t you mean TEACHING MY MASSIVE YOUNG STALLION TO SMILE
I love that you make him back up before the trick! We taught all of our horses "back" as a reset button and also to tell them they're getting a bit too excited and pushy (if they are)
This is too cute🥺I taught my gelding to smile a year ago and now he does it all the time, especially to non- horsey people that me meets. It always makes them crack up, especially if they’re a bit nervous about being around a horse!!
I cannot express how little Banksy acts like a baby, he's so well behaved and sweet
I'm currently teaching my 15 year old lease pony to smile and give kisses
Parrots&Ponies Ooo that’s cool
That’s my geldings 2 favorite tricks!
God look how big he's getting. You've done so well with him
These are my favourite kind of videos on your channel. Just horses being horses, some training with informative voiceover and oh I just love how much you stress the turnout and forage. Lots of love from Poland ❤️
Banksy is so big already holy lord. Such a handsome boy
These are training tips for anyone who professes to truly love horses. Common sense + horse centric = happier horse! Thank you Shelby. PS: Banksy is SO solid, wow. 😁
"Pickle getting his feet pickled" Haha, love your mom 😂😂
We had a hay nicknamed " Trefoil", Alfalfa, Barley and Timothy. :)
We feed a really similar diet at the barn I ride at, but we also feed beet pulp once a day. We have a lot of different breeds at our barn, and we don't have any problem keeping weight on them. It really is the healthiest way to feed your horses!
He is so beautiful! Quite new to this channel so I haven’t seen most of your horses, but I absolutely love chestnuts, and that face marking is just- 💕
Okay function of beauty!
The difference in your curls is night and day, that's so cool. Never seen an ad for FOB where it looks like people actually have used the products before!
1:50 Nice lake you got there
O.M.G your horse looks exactly like a horse I know same attitude and everything!!he is an awesome jumper and is so beautiful!!
I've been wanting to try Function of Beauty for so long, but I've been waiting for someone I really want to support to order. So excited to use your link! Can't wait for it to come!
Banksy is such a handsome man! Love seeing the things you do with him! I also find the meal prep very interesting :)
this sparks joy
Yes, I know odd, my filly, sire TB, mom, Welsh, Arab and Morgan cross....what did I get? A 14.1H " Mini TB"!!!
Love your hair Shelby!! ❤️😂
WOW your hair looks amazing
he is absolutely gorgeous! your channel is honestly my favourite channel on youtube and you do amazing work with your horses! truly awesome!
Loved this video!!! I learn so much from you. I never had my own horse before (maybe one day!) And haven't been around horses much other than riding lessons and occasionally helping the barn. So your knowledge and tips and tricks is so helpful for me! You care so much about your horses and you're so inspiring! ❤
I taught my quarab mare to take a treat from my lips. It was random as I went out with a pouch full of apples chunks to work on picking up her feet(it's the one thing she's touchy about since we had out one really rough farrier) I have a bad knee and needed to sit down so I just sat on a hay bale and taught it to her.
A little warning don't do this is your horse is nippy or aggressive with taking treats as a bite to your face can be dangerous.
Your hair is gorgeous since cutting it💗🤜🤛
I feel it's safe to say now that Banksy will stay chestnut.
He looks so good, u take great care of him!
I taught my horse to smile and now she smiles at everyone all the time hoping for a treat 😂
Can I point out how much I love your dog🤩🤩🤩
look at how much he’s grown up
So Cute 😍
Mr P no ❤️
Mr P ew gross
can you please do an update video on Simon
I sold him last year so no more update videos as he is not mine.
So... When are you breeding another cute foal? :D What about a Trahkener cross thoroughbred or some kind of Dutch warmblood? (I'm allowed to live vicariously).
Haha maybe one day but I need my own property before I get carried away and the housing market is ridiculously expensive here
@@Milestone-Equestrian yes when you're riding for Canada, remember me and do a little half-pass in my honour :)
Hey Selby Banky starting looking like milo. And going be definitely pretty. And classly show 🐎
💚💚💚
Can you go into some detail about the pea gravel in your dry lot? Would be very interested in a video, we are about to put our dry lot together on our home property and I’m worried about it being mud all winter long.
I like it a lot better than the crusher dust because it is less hard on the feet. In hindsight, I would have put down landscaping fabric first. But it works all right regardless
@@Milestone-Equestrian did you just put down the pea gravel and let it sink down with weather and horsepower or did excavate and do a layer of it?
@@haleywright5882 we excavated first. Next time we would put down landscaping fabric, then sand and then the pea gravel just because we get such insane amounts of rain
I've tried to teach 'my' gelding to smile so many times over the year he's been with me and its been impossible. I've taught him how to be ridden with a neckrope and he picked that up pretty quickly, so I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong.
Have you ever fed fussy mares with raspberry leaf ? Do you know a store which has affordable bulk raspberry leaf supplement in Canada ? Thank you!
I’m relatively new to your channel, and I was wondering if u ever offer your rescues horses for adoption? Like the thoroughbreds off the track??
I offer horses for sale. I am not a rescue centre or a not for profit, so they are never for “adoption “
He is growing up nicely, and chance you will keep him for stud?
Right now my only real motivation for keeping his nuts is so that he doesn’t grow as tall and that his joints can fuse stronger. But with that said, I am not in a massive rush to geld because he is well mannered and my barn owner is building a 6 foot fence line on their shared fence line with other horses
Your hair looks amazing Shelby. You are a beauty, and my favorite trainer as well. Okay, that sounds kinda creepy...I better add that I'm a 60 year old grandma that got to meet you in Kentucky at the thoroughbred makeover.
I remember when you met Shelby and me! You were so lovely and kind😊
@@readridelearn8635 Awww you guys are the best. I was so excited to meet you both that I really don't remember what I said. Still here watching and supporting. Shelby is going places, and I'm going to watch. :)
My 2 year olds tail is shorter than Banksy’s. Wtf😭
I also have a question for you. What would you recommend to do for a horse that tries to kick you when you pick up their back feet. My colt had an owner before me that didn’t know how to train horses at all and I’m afraid, and fostered quite a few bad habits for him. He not only tries to kick but also will jerk his feet out of my hand. Any ideas?
Lena Hylton I would work on getting him comfortable with them being touched and handled without necessarily picking up and holding and then you could teach an up cue and reward it when he holds his leg up, should help remove any negative association they have. If they’re just kicking lightly and not dangerously, I also just hold until they stop for a moment then put the foot down and scratch as a reward
Shelby Dennis ok thank you! It’s a bit of an aggressive kick, he will kick out to the side too. I’ll just start with them being touched.
That reminds me of what a young lesson horse did/does when picking his hooves. I believe he was a Thoroughbred mix too. I don't observe much when on lessons, I focus on my own given pony, so I don't know if he's getting better, and I have not been given him for the lessons since it didn't go so well for me the last two times. I asked for another horse both times, he was being incredibly annoying and I didn't have patience. It messes with my confidence so I don't want to ride a horse like that. We are not made for eachother at all. But my point is, unless that young horse has gotten better now, the ones who work there should really read Shelby's advice.
When you have a horse like that, do what Shelby said but with a lead rope around the foot, cause you can use the rope around the ankle to lift it, keep a steady pressure and let them realize kicking isnt going to get what they want, then you can progress to using hand :3
Hey Shelby, I was just wondering how long the greys anatomy sweater will be on your mercy store? When I looked on tree spring it said 2 days left but I want to put it on my Christmas list
It will be available for Christmas :)
You are doing such a good job with Banksy! He's growing really well. But if you don't mind, may I ask why you're dropping his feet after picking the hooves? Is it not better to put them down easily instead of just letting go so they bump into the ground? Just a genuine question, I read somewhere that it's kind to the horse to put down the feet after picking them instead of dropping them.
He is perfectly capable of learning how to put them down himself instead of having them lazily be dropped. And he will.
@@Milestone-Equestrian Alright, thanks for taking the time to reply. Personally I prefer putting them down but you do you, the Banksy doesn't seem to mind. I'm only concerned if it hurts even a bit or not, my human mind wants to compare it to stubbing your toe with a long nail or feeling the force in your knees, but I assume that's not the case. I don't doubt what you know at all, I simply prefer a different way, so I hope you didn't dislike that. Have a good day then!
Icy Fleckz they stomp their feet at flies and hit wooden rails when jumping eventually, so I would be very much surprised if it caused pain given the amount of impact the legs and hooves take from everyday mundane activities.
@@Milestone-Equestrian Oh right, I had forgotten about that. Yeah, that makes sense. Good to know.
Oh were did you get the treat pouch? I have been looking for one similar for MONTHS and cant find it.
@Forever Fauna Ooooh thankyou I will DEFINITELY look into this!
Ellen 2005 Yes that’s the correct website
Your hair looks very fine like baby fine hair if that's so that is a trait of the French 👍😊😎
where did you get your jacket?
Katie B the thrift store
@@Milestone-Equestrian what a mood
How many hands is he? He's heckin hugeee
15.1hh
@@ellentraquair3974 no way!! Hahahaha
Only 500 for 2000 pounds. I'll be over here crying in Florida. Our cheapest hay would be way more than that. And buying by the ton isn't even really an option due to the sheer humidity and mold growth thank goodness for grass and decent properties for once.
Our cost or living is super high here so I’m sure it all balances out. Every area has its own unique struggles.
Is Bansky's face marking getting bigger or is that just me?
Haha his head is growing so it looks like it! But no, horses usually don't have markings that grow, they can seem larger/smaller depending on the length of their coat though!
How tall is He?
Emily Lipsitz 15.1hh
How tall is he going to be?
Moon Not sure as there is a lot of variation in genetics. Probably aroun 16.2hh or so if he follows the typical expectation of reaching 90% of adult height in the first year ish
@@Milestone-Equestrian cuuuute♡!!!
