A blindfolded fighter and a co-driver that has been training fighting the bosses would be an amazing watch. Imagine the callouts the co-driver would be making and then the fighter executing them perfectly. It would be something like inside a car in a motorsport rally race
I think to beat hollow knight blindfolded you'd need a system for the other person to relay information more quickly probably through a combination of letters and numbers, moreover you would probably need in game units to relay distance. If you'd come up with such a system I think it could be possible to beat the game blindfolded. What I like about this challenge is that you don't only test the blindfolded players skill but also the skill to quickly relay infromation to one another.
My theory for how to beat the game blindfolded would be similar to the cheeses for Failed Champion and Traitor Lord: children. If you know you can hide in the corner of a room using c-dash and mantis claw as long as you're close enough that the companion charms (weaversong, grimmchild and glowing womb) can attack you just need to dodge, and with grubsong paired with the weavers there's constant soul to feed glowing womb. The issue would be the fights before and actually getting the charms, but I'm sure someone else can figure that out
It obviously don't make it any less unbelievable and outstanding, and I can't believe it's even possible, but Celeste is more suitable to beat it blindfolded than most games because it has no RNG. The same input will always give the same result.
If you would consider it viable (or possible) someone could make a mod that: 1: Gives the game surround sound (for telling the boss direction and distance) 2: Gives the bosses distinct noises for each attack
I feel as if it’s possible to handle the bosses relatively well once you manage to get Descending dark. I feel as it would be possible to handle the bosses before this if you have a significant understanding for how the bosses work and move. Once you have dive you can just do dive spam on most bosses (with the exception of uumuu)
How games like Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time have been beaten blindfolded is there are set ups and manipulations of bosses. But as far as any one knows it is not possible to set up or manipulate a HollowKnight boss into giving a certain pattern. So I think the best and most realistic option for blindfolded runs is to mod the game so that the bosses all follow the same RNG pattern/cycle or patterns/cycles that way you always know what your going to get and can play around it. Which seems to be possible because there is a Uumuu mod that lets you practice the one cycle consistently every time. So you just have to do that for every boss or at least all the required ones with watcher knight's being the hardest to mod properly.
Game Explorer showed off a blind cheese strat that works on both Watcher Knights and THK, as well as presumably "almost all bosses except two heart damagers." It requires Quick Focus, Stalwart Shell, Weaversong, and Grubsong, as well as the 5 extra charm notches it takes to equip all of those items. You can hypothetically get all of those with the only boss you have to face being the False Knight (and you only have to get through the first phase) so I think a route where you rush those charms before taking on any bosses could potentially be viable without a co-driver.
I'm kinda trying to figure out a rough outline of a route. It might be something like this: play normal speedrun routes until Vengeful Spirit. Use Vengeful skip to get into fungal wastes (we're leaving Hornet for later.) Damage tank the Big Mushrooms for their charm notch. Get Mantis Claw. Enter Deepnest through the Big Hole (though I think Mantis Lords might be doable blindfolded.) Get Weaversong. Get tram pass. Leave Deepnest via the tram. Get to right side of City of Tears from whichever of the two tram paths are more consistent. Take the elevator up to Resting Grounds. Get Dream Nail while you're at it. Then go to Salubra via the Blue Lake, and also save Sly. Now you have access to every shopkeeper, as well as all the necessary charms, assuming you've rescued 10 grubs on the way. So do some geo grinding to buy every charm you can, as well as the currently available charm notches. I think if you also pick up a few extra charms on your way through this route you should be able to buy three charm notches, leaving you only one short. I'm not totally sure what the next easiest charm notch to get is. Getting seven extra charms might not be super doable at this point. The Fog Canyon notch requires Isma's, Wings, or CDash + Cloak. All of these require beating a boss to obtain. I'm hoping Hornet is beatable with one less charm than the full build (probably without Stalwart Shell) and then we can get CDash probably, since Crystal Peaks doesn't seem to have much rng. And then get the Fog Canyon notch? At that point the options of the run open up a lot. You could go fight Watcher Knights right now, or go to Herrah. I don't know how you'd do Uumuu blind, but the attacks are basic enough that I think it could be possible, though it might be worth investing in some upgrades to make a two or even one cycle be super consistent. Speaking of upgrades, some useful upgrades to get might be the nail upgrades (Nosk's pale ore should be obtainable, as well as the Seer's) Shade soul, mask shards, vessel shards, Wings, Isma's, and maybe even Shade Cloak. I can see all of those being possible to get with this build, so whichever ones seem necessary to make any of the Dreamers easier to reach should be grabbed at this point. then all that's left is The Hollow Knight, who can be cheesed with this build. And that's the vague route for how to beat Hollow Knight blind. I realize several parts of this run may be very challenging, and I haven't looked at every moment to see if there are any especially tough challenges, but I think this route may be possible, with some slight modifications.
I think the right charm combos and maybe some unconventional strats would make a true blindfolded playthrough (i.e. without a second person assisting) possible _eventually._ There'd be luck involved in every boss fight, but unlike in e.g. Mike Tyson's Punch Out, you get to keep retrying them until you succeed. High-damage builds would be essential, to get the fights over with as quickly as possible.
We have such an passionate and determined community, I wouldn’t even be surprised if one of the people watching this is going to be the first ever person to beat Hk blindfolded and I have no doubt in that 🍀
I mean, even god gamers like fire do be dying when they encounter invisible Hollow Knight (which would still be easier than blindfolded because at least you know where you are)
Normal hollow knight without help is 99.99999999999999999% impossible But think about a mod that make the fights will be like TAS(their movements and attack will be the learnable)+QoL mod just for the text will be faster and you won't speak to some NPC again accidentally +sound . And tons of hours of practice (also enemies will spawn little bit differently every time so the mod will make all of the rooms the same every time) After all of that i can say that this is possible but not now.... (Also did someone already watched the crazy TAS of p5 (sub 15) absolutely insane what you can do with the knight .)
Well I dont know about uumuu, but watcher knights and the hollow knight, if you build it properly. You can stand still and just swing and heal. So instead of the fight, the issue becomes getting the charms and life to survive tanking the boss.
I just got curious and tried playing HK blindfolded, and managed to reach Dirtmouth by myself, but... Yeah, combat will probably be impossible in such a fashion Edit : I think I'm actually going to push further by experimenting on another save file where I'll try different strats. Maybe for the bosses, staying near the corners of an arena would help make the fights more consistent by reducing the possibilities of where the boss is ? I still think bosses like the watcher knights or Uumuu are going to be impossible, but it's not even about doing an entire blindfolded run, just see how far it's humanly possible to go
Perhaps following all skills Is better than any%? You would definitely want to cut ismas and other stuff you don't actually need, but quick kills on the bosses seem much more consistent and wouldn't technically need another person.
good job you gave me a new thing to try the only thing is. i have no one to tell me what to do. IM GONNA PLAY COMPLETELY BLIND. I BEAT PANTHEON 5 I CAN DO THIS

hollow knight blindfolded vs hollow knight but with dance pad

would be cool if someone made a mod that allows you to set the randomness seed(s) for bosses and enemies
That'd be amazing
well we all know its more than possible with wayvard compass, but that would probably be cheating :(
Jokes aside, it would actually make a lot of sense. The charm is described as "whispering your location", similar to the assitance in this run
Even getting that far is absolutely crazy. Blindfolded runs are so fun to watch, but are also a cause of great anxiety aha.
