Dude you are a sweet guy. You love your barn cats. Many farmers just use cats for mouse and rat clearance and don’t care or take care of their cats. Cats don’t live long in my area because of coyote kills in San Dimas, CA. We have a huge invasion of coyotes.
Thanks bro. These felines have definitely turned me into a cat guy too. Sadly we lost two of my favourites to coyotes also so I went ahead and added a custom catio beside my workshop so they can be protected at night. Too bad my workshop is now the cat house 😆
If you live in an area with lots of iphone users (like cities) AirTags work amazingly well as pet trackers because everyone’s iPhones communicate any/all Bluetooth AirTag data to back Apple’s geolocation servers via Apple’s u1 chip. It’s how so many people have tracked missing luggage in cities. But as we see here rural areas pose challenges because there are less iPhones around. I think that Apple or 3rd parties will probably address this problem. Maybe they’ll make u1 bluetooth / wifi repeaters. In the meantime if one wanted to experiment they could buy some iPhone 11s or later and build a 10w (or higher) solar charging station for the phone. Put it all into a plastic junction box and you have a solar Apple bluetooth repeater. People have made similar solar solutions for boosting/repeating wifi signals. I haven’t looked into it for pet use yet but two areas to also consider/google is solar powered LoRa (long range low power wireless signal - Yolink is a cool company using this tech for home consumers ) and also “differential GPS” which used local sensors to triangulate GPS data vs Satellite data.
I'm glad! Always a fun time with the Claw Crew here at the farm. I just built them their own Catio to keep them protected at night. Maggie May just had some kittens a while back too so lots of cat happenings here lol.
Hope you find your boy but just know that these things are not like gps, they’re only good for a cat hiding in your vicinity. If you’re in a city the signal can ping of other iPhones and help to track but it’s not perfect it’s just Bluetooth. It’s just another tool to help.
@@HiddenSpringFarm Thanks. He is still missing. This is the 4'th time he has been really late coming in over the last 7 days. I am terrified. Can you recommend anything that has a longer range on it? @@marthaworc7873 have you heard of Tractive collars? It’s a gps but has a monthly fee and it’s rechargeable. I hope he comes back soon.
@@HiddenSpringFarm Thanks I will look into that. I cannot go through this again. Thanks for caring. My cat has been going outside all night for 13+ years- no problem. He has never acted this way. Could he be going off to die? He doesn't seem sick.
@@marthaworc7873 I know that some cats do go off to die but if he seems healthy otherwise he’s just roaming. You could try to keep him in for a few days to break the cycle. Lots of cats live way longer than 13 too. Have u put his favourite food out for him to attract him to come home. Or calling his name.
I'm getting Airtags for all three of my indoor cats just incase they escape (we have two escape artists). I'm still debating whether I'm gonna get them collars specifically made for Airtags of whether I'll hang them from their collars like you have done.
They’re not purrfect but have helped me find the cats when they’re hiding. Don’t get the hanging holder though cause when the cat dips down to drink water the air tag can also take a dip in the water. I used a silicone holder that the collar threads through so it’s flush and works with any collar. I found tons of them on Amazon. Some of the actual air tag collars are nice too especially yours are indoor. Best of luck.
We have been using the airtags for our 3 cats and 1 dog since July,2021, and works great because we live in busy city area. Our cats are completely indoor cats, let your cats in/outdoors cats is a risk and I sure you know what those risks are. Don’t let them outdoor freely and then one day, the cats never come back or whatever…🥲, also risks of other diseases and if in the jungles, animals can kill, eat them.. also in the cities and car accidents… etc **So our cats very sneaky. One of them name Tobi, and he with multiple times got outside ran around the neighbor, and even got into our under house which is so nasty and difficult with one ppl help. Without the airtag we could not direct where he was.. the Airtag helped us ,to look where exactly he was using the bell and direction arrow. That was Round 2,3pm. Also had the time he jumped into the next neighborhood ( we live in mobile home ,has the high wall between other mobile home) at 2,3 AM ! We were so freaked out because could not found the signals of his airtag , we did almost give up, but we still tried to push the bell on our phone. And the sound looked like behind our house so at f late night AM , we jumped into the wall, walked to that house ….we tried to find our cat. The sound came from one of the car of the owner house. We tried to bring our car lifter silencing not wake up ppl. But in the end ..we could not help. We needed to knock the door of the owner house , luckily, they were nice ppl, and did not pissed off us. They got into their car and opened the front car. My cat was rlly hiding in there OMG! I grabbed him and held tight! Thank for them and then we walked around back to our mobile home area. P/s that we don’t know these ppl, we just live between the wall . So again, airtag did and still do help us a lot. You needed to live in the crowd areas and also the things between like car, wAlls , etc also effect the signals of the airtag. Needed to move around until u find the signals. We were lucky and airtag helps a lot. Other time he got into under our house which so nasty and dark etc… my bf even needed to clawl underneath. I was the exit to wait to catch my cat. All the times were tired and exhausted but we had airtags. Then other times other cats also got out… the airtags helped me not too freaked out and slowly caught them back in. Most of the was 2,3 AM 🥲🥲
Yes I think you're right...We'll be changing the cats lifestyle soon to have them locked up safe at night. They're so happy being free, but it's for their own protection. That's how I lost my Smokey. Thanks for sharing.
@@HiddenSpringFarm If there's one thing ALL cats hate, it's being restricted. Unlike Dogs, Pigs, or Sheep--Cats haven't been shaped by people but rather adapted alongside people. Their independence is what makes them so unique and when they lose it, it's truly sad to see. Cats might live longer when they're locked inside, but their lives eventually lose all meaning and I hate seeing it. There's a video of a cat that was restricted to one room in a house and the cat just lost all excitement and interest in things. Eventually they just give up and it's devastating.
With an AirTag, I can tell just before my cat wants to come in every time. He stays away when he wants to be out but as he strolls close to the house, I get an alert message. It seems that every time I get that alert message he's ready to come in. I wish it was more useful as I gladly would've paid 70 or $80 for one that allowed me to see where he was at a farther distance.
Appreciate that, I just picked up the silicone holders on Amazon. Hundreds of different kinds, but these have lasted more than a year with little wear and tear.
Love your cats. I just got the new iPhone 14 and plan to get airtags for my dog and my keys. If we should go camping where few iPads and iPhones are, I'll need a GPS. That said, I don't need to spend any more money on monthly services. Take care of those kitties, Meow
Thanks so much. The gps is needed. I wish I could do it here on the farm, but I'd send a fortune on fees for all these felines. The airtags work well when they're not too far off.
@@HiddenSpringFarm I put the tracker on them with 100% battery in the morning and at night I take it off when I bring them in and the tracker still has around 80% battery. And it takes around 30 minutes to charge it back to 100%. I pay $8 per month but there’s different price options. I would’ve paid more, it’s nice knowing where my cats run off to
Great cat video. I can tell that no one loves cats more than you. Thank you very much! Your cat “Chunky” looks a lot like our grey cat “Wolfy”. We call him Wolfy because he eats like a wolf. A few weeks ago I bought an Apple Air Tag for our other cat “Spunky” because he disappears every night and has been gone for over a day at a time. I live in a housing development and my iPhone indicated that Spunky wondered up to 0.6 miles away at night. But a day ago Spunky lost his collar (with Air Tag) about 8 houses away from our house (according to my iPhone). I went looking for the Air Tag collar to where the iPhone said said the caller is located. Just get a general location between two houses. The arrow indicator on the iPhone is useless. Could not get a chirping sound from the Air Tag even though my iPhone indicated that the Air Tag was with me. Couldn’t find the collar with the Air Tag. I’m very disappointed in this Air Tag. And I don’t trust anything it says about my cat’s locations. Therefore in my opinion the Air Tag is useless for monitoring my cat’s location.
Hopefully Spunky comes back. I can usually find lost collars just by walking all around the area until I get a connection to make the beeping sound, but I’m on the farm and have no houses or fences in my way. I hate the arrow too it sometimes has no signal even 50’ away. The air tags only serve a purpose to find lost collars and cats hiding locally. Once the cats roam too far it does nothing unless you’re in an urban area with thousands of iPhones so it can ping a signal off everyone else’s phones. Best of luck with your cats and thanks for the comment 😊
This is a great video and although it could have been cut in half, I enjoyed watching you interact with them. Just a question though - I wanted to use the audio alert to find my indoor cat but not sure if the alert is too loud and would scare her as was the case with my Tile tracker. What was your experience.
Thanks for watching...even through the music montages lol. Our cats don't seem to mind the little beeps when I set them off trying to find them. They never run off or act scared. The cats have become a huge part of the farm and the channel so I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Oh it was just a pack I picked up on amazon, there's tons of them on there its just a silicone stretchy case that fits onto the collar. It does work quite well too.
Breakaway collars from our local pet shop. Cats should always wear breakaways. The little silicone airbag holder I found on amazon, hundreds of different kinds.
Our cat was always free to run around and come inside her little home we made for her in the gardenshed (in a normal urban area) and we only had one incident where she has gone missing for 2 days on her own. After 16 years, on one day she disappeared completely (She probably was just hiding in order to die in peace like cats like to do). RIP Edit: Also im pretty sure she died naturally cause she was really shy, cautious and smart about everything. Avoiding stuff that moved, that was a loud noise etc.
@@saiton27 She got 16 years old. We wouldnt do anything different if we were to get another cat. Im always pretty sad when I see that people hold their cat inside of a tiny apartment or house for their entire live. Like imagine you are looked into your home for your entire life! People started to freak out after 1 week of lockdown due to covid but lock their pets inside their homes for 15 years!
Thanks for sharing the story. We've had our ups and downs with the cats here at the farm. I no longer let them free roam 24/7. I built them their own Catio to keep them in at Nights.
@@HiddenSpringFarm Yeah if you build them some sort of shelter they are smart enough to happily use it. Its a good piece of mind to have a place where they can sleep (maybe even a magnetic collar would be nice so that only your cats have access to the cat flap) that is what we did it worked really well.
We had a cat called Smokey he looked like chunky. he disappeared and we never saw him again:(( had these been around then at least we would have had some idea of where he went or had some closure.
Yeah I do miss my Smokey especially since I'm making these videos he sometimes pops up and I see him again and I remember him. Very good cat and I wish I knew what happened to him. I sure hope he's living a great life somewhere. Chad.
well i just use a safety collar from our local pet shop. The little silicon holders for the actual air tag i just ordered from amazon. Lots of sellers just search air tag collar holders. Gotta be sure of the sizes though so be sure.
The Chipolo Spot works with same Apple find my app and might be better because it has a longer range according to multiple tests I've seen on UA-cam but it doesn't have the directional arrow.
yup it's super fun. Leona I did get an email with your recent comments on the last video, but for whatever reason youtube doesn't show them in the video comments section, but I will check out the videos you suggested. I use a heated nipple waterer and it worked well last year, but I'm always open to better ideas. thanks for sharing.
Well I put them on our kittens before too, they’re only the size of a quarter really. I’d say Fozzy Bear is the biggest at maybe 10-12 lbs but the rest are average size. Stormy and Maggie were pretty small cats too, I don’t think that’s an issue.
Two of my indoor cats got out one time. Had to leave food out and eventually got them back. I’ve been looking for some sort of locator. I love apple products too! Also you got some beautiful fur babies! Sorry to hear about Smokey!
Yeah thanks Smoke was my bud. Since this video we actually lost 2 more cats to predators...my favorites too. Heartbreaking. I built them their own custom Catio and now my small workshop has become the cat house with the protected outdoor catio so they can get some fresh air. But I no longer let them free range at night. I wish there was a true GPS with no monthly fee then I would know where they've gone in a day. I'm working on another video cause I gotta get some more air tags for Maggie's kittens too. But the air tags in this video are still working after all this time...good battery life.
Nice video! Think the AirTags might work better in more urban areas like cities. More people there with iPhones and when a tag passes an iPhone you actually get pinged with a location. But it worked quite decent. Considering maybe getting a few for our cats, just to be safe. They’re chipped already but also nice to have one on them just in case 😻
Great point about being in the country, never even thought of that. Nonetheless, the tags have helped me find their lost collars around the farm lol and they're helpful if a cat is hiding somewhere and I can know where they are.
I live in a wooded area but there are many houses in close proximity. My cat has an AirTag on her collar but she escaped today. Although I’ve spotted her twice (with NO help from the airtag, just by sheer luck) the airtag never updated her location, it’s not a live location, and it won’t point me to where she is it’s not within Bluetooth range I guess so now she lost and I can only pray she returns home.
@@ctw213 That's too bad, I hope you can get her back or she'll just come home. We had a cat named Smokey and one day he just walked away never to return. The air tags wouldn't help in that situation either. Sadly there's no real good quality gps tags or collars for pets without monthly fees. Thats what we need is a satelite gps. Good luck in getting your girl back. Try putting some of her favorite food out to see if she can smell it.
I got a tractive gps collar for my cat but it's big and the battery needs charged every couple days. I got this because somebody found my cat after it was missing for 5 years!!! So I want to make sure this doesn't happen again....
I hope my Smokey can find his way back to us, but it's been since last July. I wanted a real gps tracker but for the charging reason I didn't get it. Also some of the gps collars have monthly fees. These air tags are useful for when the cats are just hiding around the farm or if the safety collar has come off. Finding your cat after 5 years is practically a miracle. Glad you were reunited.
@@HiddenSpringFarm yessss and thank you!!! I had lost hope. I've heard a couple stories like mine but didn't think I'd get lucky enough for this to happen.
This video is a great example of why I don’t believe in keeping cats indoor only. Especially in a safe environment like a farm. They will always be the most active and happy outside.
Thanks for the video. I see your reception was weaker than you expected. Suggestion, you're religiously placing the shiny metal apple to the outside of the collar. However, I think the antenna is on the plastic white side of the airtag. So, you're broadcasting the signal into the cat's neck, which makes it weaker. If you put the white side outwards, try the reception again, then its not going into the cat's neck, the reception may increase. I'm quite interested this topic, not totally sure, so if U can LMK if I'm right about this.

Thanks for visiting. Have you checked out some of my other cat videos? These cats are so fun and they love to follow me around the farm where ever I go. And they do an amazing job of catching rodents and keeping our farm free of mice and such.
If one of your cats were to take off I think other people's iPhones would ping the tag and you'd get intermittent updates on where the cat is.
Yes I've heard that...especially once you mark the air tag as "lost". much better for urban settings but you never know eh cats can travel a ways.
Very useful video Thanks
😎
9:17 it's like a fort for cats. You know how you build a fort like when you're nine. This is the cat fort in the bales. Cat Playland!
Yeah a fort. They love hiding in there.
@@HiddenSpringFarm It is their cat castle fortress fort, lol! Not sure if they have a roundtable with thrones yet?
I just enjoy watching cute cats!
I'm glad! Always a fun time with the Claw Crew here at the farm. I just built them their own Catio to keep them protected at night. Maggie May just had some kittens a while back too so lots of cat happenings here lol.
Thanks! Sounds perfect. As I type this I have not seen my cat in 15 hours. He's ok, but I have no idea where he is right now.
If he does come home, hopefully before the neighborhood fireworks go off tomorrow through New Year's eve. Thanks for the well wishes. 😮💨
@@marthaworc7873 have you heard of Tractive collars? It’s a gps but has a monthly fee and it’s rechargeable. For me at the farm it’s no good cause we have 8 cats and I’m not chasing down all the cats to get the collars to recharge. But it might suit your purpose. These air tags are only like $30 each.
You living my dream life! Subbed!!
Awesome, thank u so much we’ll see u around.
You made my day
You do love your fur babies
OK, I'm waiting to see your catnip patch (or jungle) :)
Those cats have the best life possible. Sorry for the missing one. Do you have snakes and coyotes?
I would bet that Dexter is the one that cross borders 😹😹😹😹😹😹
That’s Nice tools for cat’s safe 👍👍👍
Those are very Happy Cats
Don’t let them outdoor freely and then one day, the cats never come back or whatever…🥲, also risks of other diseases and if in the jungles, animals can kill, eat them.. also in the cities and car accidents… etc
**So our cats very sneaky.
Eventually they just give up and it's devastating.
omg I enjoyed watching this video
oh nice, thnx.
I Need to Know were you buy those rubber cases Please Share a Link
Oh I just found them on Amazon
With an AirTag, I can tell just before my cat wants to come in every time. He stays away when he wants to be out but as he strolls close to the house, I get an alert message. It seems that every time I get that alert message he's ready to come in. I wish it was more useful as I gladly would've paid 70 or $80 for one that allowed me to see where he was at a farther distance.
Us too, the air tags are useful for that. I do wish there was a true gps also so I can see where they went all day.
Buy "cheap" second-hand iphones and place them in key locations to track them using the community feature.
@@brianwest2775 haha it just might work
Awesome video! Where did you get the AirTag rubber holders from bud?
Appreciate that, I just picked up the silicone holders on Amazon. Hundreds of different kinds, but these have lasted more than a year with little wear and tear.
@@HiddenSpringFarm no problem ! I found one !!! Thanks for the response man. Keep on keeping on!!!
I have the Tractive cat GPS and it has long range signal
I’ve seen that. Question- How long does the charge last? What does it cost you per month?
@@HiddenSpringFarm I put the tracker on them with 100% battery in the morning and at night I take it off when I bring them in and the tracker still has around 80% battery. And it takes around 30 minutes to charge it back to 100%. I pay $8 per month but there’s different price options. I would’ve paid more, it’s nice knowing where my cats run off to
Cute cats!
thnx
In that case, it's likely that your cat's tag (along with your cat) has been taken in by one of the neighbours. ;)
Happy cats ❤
This is a great video and although it could have been cut in half, I enjoyed watching you interact with them.
Just a question though - I wanted to use the audio alert to find my indoor cat but not sure if the alert is too loud and would scare her as was the case with my Tile tracker. What was your experience.
Thanks for watching...even through the music montages lol. Our cats don't seem to mind the little beeps when I set them off trying to find them. They never run off or act scared. The cats have become a huge part of the farm and the channel so I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
OH MY AN OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOG 🎉❤😊 YOU SHOULD MEET MY DUKE!!!!
Yeah these dogs are amazing as I'm sure Duke is.
All so pretty
Beautiful video ❤️
Thanks for visiting
What AirTag holder do you use on the collar
Oh it was just a pack I picked up on amazon, there's tons of them on there its just a silicone stretchy case that fits onto the collar. It does work quite well too.
Where do you buy your collars? Are they safety break away?
Breakaway collars from our local pet shop. Cats should always wear breakaways. The little silicone airbag holder I found on amazon, hundreds of different kinds.
Lovely animals
Our cat was always free to run around and come inside her little home we made for her in the gardenshed (in a normal urban area) and we only had one incident where she has gone missing for 2 days on her own. After 16 years, on one day she disappeared completely (She probably was just hiding in order to die in peace like cats like to do). RIP
Edit: Also im pretty sure she died naturally cause she was really shy, cautious and smart about everything. Avoiding stuff that moved, that was a loud noise etc.
Aweh, im sorry :c how old was she?
Chad.
Nice and used video. I love the cats !
Thnx we have a lot of other episode about our cats too, you should check them out. Cheers, Chad.
I want to know how you attached the AirTag to the collar. That’s what I’m finding a challenge.
I just got these little silicone air tag holders off Amazon.
Where did you get the collars that hold them?
well i just use a safety collar from our local pet shop. The little silicon holders for the actual air tag i just ordered from amazon. Lots of sellers just search air tag collar holders. Gotta be sure of the sizes though so be sure.
Bluetooth expander or bluetooth speakers can expand of up to 300 feet. Maybe an idea ?
Expander eh I didn’t even know that was a thing. Something to look into.
The Chipolo Spot works with same Apple find my app and might be better because it has a longer range according to multiple tests I've seen on UA-cam but it doesn't have the directional arrow.
Hi can I ask where you got the pocket to hold the tag please
Oh Amazon has hundreds of them.
You should have referred to them as keeping tabs on TABBY. Like that one?
Haha yeah thats a good one. Especially the kittens are still learning their names they don't always come so I gotta keep tabs on em.
Wish I was there to play with them all!!!!!
yup it's super fun. Leona I did get an email with your recent comments on the last video, but for whatever reason youtube doesn't show them in the video comments section, but I will check out the videos you suggested. I use a heated nipple waterer and it worked well last year, but I'm always open to better ideas. thanks for sharing.
cute cats!
Awesome video! Wondering the size of your cats? We have smaller built ones and just wanted to see if the Air Tag might be too big…
Well I put them on our kittens before too, they’re only the size of a quarter really. I’d say Fozzy Bear is the biggest at maybe 10-12 lbs but the rest are average size. Stormy and Maggie were pretty small cats too, I don’t think that’s an issue.
Air tags are awesome…we use them on our dogs 🐶🐶🐶
Nice 😊
Chunky is so cool.
Where did you buy your AirTag case?
Oh there's hundreds of them on Amazon. The silicone ones work well. The cats still have the ones I put on in this video last year.
Where can I find the airtag case he used?
Oh they’re just from Amazon, lots of them many different kinds.
Enjoyed
hey um does the alarm sound louder? because its really helped me out, because my cats keep hiding in someone place
so far I haven't found any volume adjustment on the sound.
You are very good at making video, nice music also, informative to find colar. Did you try the pro track tor?
No I haven't tried the pro track it was pretty pricey. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers, Chad.
You are a cool person
have you tried bluetooth extender
Another viewer said to try it, i think I will I just haven't done it. Maybe one on each side of the farm.
@@HiddenSpringFarm thanks. I’ve seen her yesterday and today multiple times. I just can’t coral her but I know she’s fine.
@@ctw213Did you ever get her in?
Our Rudy is grey also he’s fluffy too 😂
Hello. It's a long story but I want to do this. Where did you get the rubber piece?
I got a tractive gps collar for my cat but it's big and the battery needs charged every couple days. I got this because somebody found my cat after it was missing for 5 years!!! So I want to make sure this doesn't happen again....
Nevermind, I just got to the part of the video where you told us where to get the rubber thing. Thanks.
Cool video
This video is a great example of why I don’t believe in keeping cats indoor only. Especially in a safe environment like a farm. They will always be the most active and happy outside.
Totally agree!
But why doesn’t it locate your cats in case the wander far away? Is it because of lack of network/bluetooth in your area?
Yeah, around the farm its really just me, no neighbors for a good distance. Urban area is ideal.
I will try that and see what happens. Cheers.
