Usually Alicia did Double Twist Yurchenko as her second vault. I think the one that u saw is the competition after Alicia healed her torn ACL. But i do agree, she can did more to her FX and throw the amanar. Anyway, awesome video as usual bro ! 🎉🎉

Thanks for the info. I looked at a many competitions and I could not find anything more than a yurchinko full but what you say makes a lot of sense as her full is so easy. Rock on.

These videos of retired gymnasts always take me back in time. They kept showing her during Trials and I was reminded of the 2008 Olympics. I felt very bad for her there. An error on beam and then again on floor and she was devastated. In a team interview that was horribly done by NBC just after the competition, she was asked about these mistakes which was like rubbing salt in the wound and she said, "Well, no one else made any mistakes" pretty much blaming herself for the team not winning gold. She was the leader of the team the year prior when they won at Worlds. I also remember the way Marta acted as Alicia came off the podium. I don't know what she said but the way she acted was like, 'what the hell are you doing?'. The appearance of it was pretty unprofessional, but I don't know what her words were. Maybe she was actually trying to be supportive. Didn't look that way, however. My hunch is that these experiences probably help in her current role at USAG. She's also a World Champion so she's experienced a pretty wide variety in gymnastics and that must be helpful as well. She was a great gymnast and I think she picked a good squad for Paris.

Thanks for your insights and information. I do understand she blamed her self a lot but I believe at the time the commentators crunched the numbers and her errors alone were not the sole cause of the U.S. Teams placement. She had a bad competition but I believe her career speaks much more to what type of a gymnast she was than the Olympics. I understand most judge strongly from the Olympics and I felt for her also. That is the one day you want it all to go great and it did not for her. To be interviewed right after and confronted with the reality of having a tough competition that she is already more than aware of is very difficult. Even the greats have tough competitions. Its just tougher when it is the Olympics. She was still a great gymnasts and that is how I remember her. Thanks again and all my best.

My recollection with that quad is that UE bars scores were super high in general and good bar-workers received a huge advantage. In the Team final, the U.S. finished 2nd on bars but almost 2 points behind China just on that one rotation. That's really where the gold medal was lost.
This is also what similarly doomed Shawn in the AA, whose weakest event was UE bars. Nastia was 2nd on bars in the AA final and Shawn 10th, but the gap was 1.375 points, which is massive. To compare that to the other rotations, (i) the gap from 1st to 10th on Floor was 1.025, (ii) the gap from 1st to 10th on Beam was 0.700, and (iii) the gap from 1st to 11th on Vault was 1.000 points. Nastia upped her difficulty in the AA final on bars and Shawn had no chance to catch her. Keep in mind the top 6 place finishers in the AA in 2008 included the top 5 ranked performers on UE bars. The only outlier was Shawn, at 10th.

Lance! She did a double DTY most of the time. Thank you sooo much for contrasting Alicia's block into her Arabian double with Aly's. Trying to explain to people about blocking up and not around is difficult without visual aides. However, you need to take it down and fix the vault part, bro! It sounds like you don't realize Alicia competed DTY from 2004 - 2011. Alicia was doing Yurchenko double twist before she was doing the Rudi!

I have had a few people tell me this now. I think I got unlucky in my search. She used double yurchinko at Olympics. How about this, I think I will just do an additional analysis of her vault only of her doing a yurchinko double full. I am not sure why she only did full in the videos I found. I assumed she was getting back from injury but I dont know. Thanks for the insights.

Alicia was VERY close to knocking out Shawn or Nastia in quals to make beam finals at the olympics. She also had such personality on floor. She, along with the rest of the 2008 team were so injured by the time they had to compete at the olympics. Im glad she is bringing some sanity and actual exercise science into elite gymnastics.

@@Ss-wy1gv in yurchinko vaults, as I think that’s what you were talking about, as long as you connect solidly with the springboard, your body is projected up. Once you’ve connected with the springboard, you can throw your arms and head back as fast as possible, and hit the vault on the way up, if you don’t hit the vaulting board correctly or buckle, you will bend your arms or bump your head on the vault. She connects with the board very well and gets back very fast. Rock on and my best.
