    Talking about targeting the specific muscle groups through an excersize, you are 100% right.
    In CrossFit, events are usually timed, so it's important to get through an excersize as efficient as possible (i.e. kipping/butterfly pull-ups). With these techniques: Instead of using only their lats and triceps for the pull-up, they're using their whole body, keeping the intensity high and cardio up.
    It's not meant to be a strict pull-up, and comparing the 2 is missing the point of the excersize.

    One thing I have noticed about this sport and watching some of the successful amateurs is they certain build you have to have. 5'10 to 6' foot any taller you struggle in some of the lifts. 210-215, if you are any lighter you struggle in the lifts, if you are heavier you struggle in the cardiovascular type events. Rich Froning is the ideal size and weight for crossfit to even have a chance. Of course his work ethic, stamina, and intelligence allows him to deserve what he received.

    • @6LVCKSHEEP
      @6LVCKSHEEP 10 років тому +7

      HayesPlays XBL LMAO a HSPU doesn't prove anything. but what is proven is the fact that cross fit is a fucking Money Scheme... They don't give a fuck about what is healthy or good for you. They take your money and push you through their "workout". Its been proven that it causes Rhabdomyolysis. Workout normally, with a determined mind and you will accomplish your goals without damaging your body.

    • @HayesPlaysXBL

      you're making shit up now, there is NOTHING unhealthy abt crossfit.

  • @kennykillacasio
    @kennykillacasio 10 років тому +4

    So many haters. Essentially, CrossFit is like a race with an obstacle course. The goal is to get to the finish line first. Don't compare CrossFit to how much you can lift or how strong you are because it's like comparing apples to oranges. Two different things. And referring bad form to kipping isn't entirely fair. Again the main goal isn't strength or aesthetics. However, doing the Olympic lifts with bad form is another thing, but based on what I see from the top tier athletes in this sport, they have some pretty damn good form. I'm not a fan boy. I just understand what their goals are and respect the amount of hard work they put in. I'm not ignorant.

    I'm so psyched for Khalipa and Fisher. Jason did great this year and Fisher did fantastic. Both are such nice guys as well. Big ups to Fronig on the 3 peat... I have no idea how he's so fanatically disciplined on his form even at the end of some of these workouts. I dig the fact that these guys are all pretty class.

I'm also an ex-marine and this is insane pain...but I live for it and love it...If you talk the talk then walk the walk....

    In the heat with Neil Maddox he had to go back and make sure both hands touched across the line on the handstand walk. When Rich did the same thing he didn't get a 'no rep.' I love crossfit but the judging inconsistencies make it a bit unfair in competition.

    • @_ks_154
      @_ks_154 10 років тому

      I need to go back and watch it again, but if I recall correctly I think maddox had his feet touch down on the walkway instead of past it, when froning clearly has both feet outside the walkway. I remember seeing the same thing and the feet placement I think was the difference there.

    I suppose that waiter is a crossfitter currently working on his speed and agility. You know, basically everyone, even you, is a crossfitter with or at a certain level of skill and component of fitness. Even though, Ritchie wins these competitions of high octane fitness level, there is nothing stopping you to find out for yourself how broadly fit you currently are. Fitness is broad,not specific. Xfit is the love on improving weak skills and fitness components. Remember you are a crossfitter too.

    They have catagories: cardio;running,swimming,biking,rowing strength;oly lifts and major lifts along with some dumbell variations and kettlebell movements. Then gymnastics, burpees, muscle ups pulls up dips handstand walks and push ups. They always throw in something they know no one is training for to introduce variability, I know there was alreayd a ton of it lol, this year it was the pig a 500/300 pound box they had to flip 100 yards(men/women's weight and not exact i know) and the wall

    Nearly everybody cheats at some point during their training, these guys don't claim to be superhuman but we must appreciate what they are capable of and their all round abilities, I don't do crossfit but I believe to be a better rounded athlete we can all learn a lot from all sportsmen/women and their respective disciplines.

  • @mchealy90
    @mchealy90 10 років тому

    I don't know for sure, but I don't think there's a strict standard for deficit handstand pushups. As for pullups, they're doing kipping pullups which are a different movement than strict pullups (what you consider "pullups"). The crossfit standard for pullups is arms fully extended to chin over the bar. Kipping is the most efficient to accomplish that. These guys could do as many strict pullups as other athletes. When it's timed event, however, you're going to do whatever takes less time.

      Art Major
      Please tell me you're kidding? Not only is crossfit pretty much only done in the US (not the whole planet), but he's not even close to being the fittest guy on the planet. Put him up against pretty much any distance runner or professional cyclist in a fitness test and he'd get his arse handed to him.

    • @ffryan
      @ffryan 10 років тому +1

      I've always been of the belief that whoever the best decathlon athlete is at the time, is the fittest man/women in the world. Crossfit includes a lot of highly technical movements that are more about skill than about fitness. Just my opinion though. I do believe that the crossfit games winner is certainly a contender for the "fittest on earth" title. It all depends on what you consider "fit" to be.

    No, because if that is all they can do, they do not fit the description of "fittest". Fittest involves a combination of strength, balance, agility, stamina. Arm walk tests a number of those factors, thus it should be included.

      No, there arent, but thats the beauty of it... bigger guys may lift more but they can struggle in the bodyweight movements... shorter guys can excel at these movements but they will strugle lifting heavyweights. You cant focus on one single thing without lacking in other areas, thats what i like about training for crossfit competitions.
