Player fandom wise i hate this trade because quick and RJ were two of my favorite Knicks but team wise im still iffy on the trade. RJ is gonna flourish in his hometown and IQ will too so OG is gonna have to step up his game in NY.
My ideal lineup when healthy would be: Starters (JB, Donte/Grimes, OG, Julius, and Mitch) Bench (Deuce, Grimes/Donte, Hart, Precious, IHart)
He makes terrible decisions. Has an amazing game, like a mini Bam, then he disappears for months. Honestly worse than a bust because his talent is so tantalizing

I love McBride's game. But what makes you think, Thibs is going to play him? He buried him on the bench and allowed IQ to run the point.....which was a disaster. Thibs is the problem! He must go!!!!

@@erniesilva4803 I think the Knicks are still trading. If they keep McBride (& I hope they do), I'd like to see him start, and move Brunson to the 2. He's a true point guard, and he can score and defend. Kinda glad that they moved IQ, because IQ would try to keep the ball away from McBride - either by design or due to selfishness/fear.
They also need a real big man too because Robinson is not close to the answer.
It's a good trade RJ needs his own team to cook. He was never going to realize his true potential on the Knicks. IQ wants to start and wants his bag he wasn't getting that from the Knicks. OG fits this team much better with JB and Randal. OG will make the shots RJ was missing.
We have Siakam and Barnes. Won't get his own team

I like the trade for both teams...I do wish we were giving up Grimes instead of Quick... cuz I do think OG's offense is still dependent on a good PG getting him the rock...I don't think he is as good as RJ in getting to the bucket!

i'm a big raptors fan here's the story on him:
- unreal defender
- never lets you down, always competes, engaged, you won't have the urge to "get on his case"
- really good from 3, nice offensive piece, limited upside - probably a 20 pt avg ceiling
- many times hes been our best player all around this szn
- what you'll have to worry about is his health, which is weird no ones talking about - the guy often gets injured and has no shot in playing 70+ games

As a raptors fan, OG is an all nba defender, I can see Knick fans loving him as he fits the Ewing, Oakley archetype,,,, that being said, feels like you did give up a LOT of potential for him… if RJ and quick reach their potential the raps will easily win this one

I honestly kinda wish we gave up 1sts instead of IQ. RJ and like 2 1s would've made me like this deal more. I know IQ probably isn't getting an extension, but would've much rather saved him for a bigger move.

OG is great dawg. His advanced stats are crazy good, he is a defensive monster and the perfect pairing next to Mitch, Brunson and Randle to stretch the floor. He’s a solid role player, sub all star in my opinion
Og is actually having a slight drop off this year in all around stats, he can’t dribble, make plays for others or create shots for himself. He is a pure top of the line 3 and D guy. He is extremely good defensively, but this year he has been inconsistent with his high level defensive. Both teams got better with the trade but overall raptors got the better players back.

@@commonsense3921 dawg you’ve never seen RJ play, or looked at his advanced stats. He’s not good. He can’t shoot, defend, rebound, playmake.
OG is a way better 3pt shooter and that fits better with our lack of spacing with Randle and Mitch/Hartenstein.
IQ is a great player who will be seriously missed in New York, but IQ is not that much younger than OG and OG is still the much better overall player and is a more proven playoff contributor.
We also didn’t even have to give up a first for OG.
Which means we will likely make another trade with our arsenal of picks, plus grimes and Fournier.
Plus OG is only 26 still.
And we got another backup big which is good considering the injury track record that Sims and Robinson have.
Knicks win this trade. I didn’t even mention RJs god awful contract for the next couple of years, that would’ve had us tied down to 20+million dollars for below average play for next 4 seasons.

I'm a raptors fan. This is my opinion on OG. I mean really, he is pretty much the perfect 3 & D player. He shoots the 3 well and he literally can shut down the best player on the other team probably better than anyone in the league. There are soo many games he held the opposing star player to 10-15 points, etc. The only thing that is frustrating with him is he is terrible at taking the ball to the net. Man, when you see him trying to drive to the net you know 75% of the time it's not going to work out. He doesn't have a great handle and is not good at finishing in close. There were always rumours of him saying he wanted a bigger role in the offense, but man if he just dropped that and stuck to 3 & D it would have been so much better. I think perhaps on a better team he will feel less inclined to try his hand at initiating offence and will stick to more of the 3 & D role which will be great. But ya, he is definitely a huge difference maker on defense as he can neutralize a star player on the opposing team. He also has also proven to be a good playoff performer.
That Mitchell Robinson injury is what caused all this .. and rj not playing well
Idk CK, I feel we had a mix of high expectations for RJ and little patience with him, so I think Toronto is a place where he could develop into the best version of himself (if he's got it in him to do so). The loss of IQ is tough as well, but as you said we were gonna let him walk so it's not that bad. Hopefully people won't start blaming OG for everything from now on.
Personally, I think that expecting OG to play a defensive role is something more reliable than hoping either RJ or IQ to have consistently good offensive displays, at least as they are right now. And since we already have two guys that are our clear "offensive leaders" on the team I feel a defensive player can find his fit on the team much more easily (although obviously more firepower is always good), just trying to point out some possible good outcomes off of the trade.
OG fits my brother its all about the fit knicks offer I.Q.$18 million dollars a year his team wanted $25 million they wasn't going to pay another player $20 coming off the bench. GO KNICKS

There’s very little off ball movement I feel like the Knicks work so much harder than most other teams for shots. Do you think this is a thibs issue, I would fire him just because I think he’s behind the times of modern offense.
We have no offense. Our offense is play through the all stars and hope the others score when they're open.

Salutes! I feel that losing Mitch for the season gave a pause to whatever Leon & Co. were cooking. This was a quick move, but I feel a move that works for both organizations. I don't think they're done. I was RJ and Quick hive all day, but I'm ready for changes.

The player I think OG is: A guy that can guard guys like Tatum and Kawhi. Matchups we struggle with because our team lacked size. A guy that can hit a shot. Wont shoot us out of games when he's ICE COLD. An efficient 16 or 17 a game and some great defense.

OG has potential that said he fits a need for the team defensively and I think that was the thinking behind the trade especially with Mitch being gone having a versatile wing defender is good. HOWEVER I really had high hopes for IQ and am sad he won’t be a Knick 😢. But I guess the writing was on the wall when we got Dante. Malachi is not a flame thrower lol. He’s horrible, I’ve been unfortunate enough to see almost every raptor game the last three years. Sadly he’s a bust.
OG is more efficient when his number is called. He doesn't need to have the ball in his hand. He finishes at the rim at a high clip. He plays better defense and allows us to not worry about switching, since he's quick enough to guard the 1, and strong enough to guard the 5. This is a great signing. Love RJ, but way too inconsistent and can be extremely inefficient on a night to night basis. He had no midrange. If bully ball wasn't working, then it's a wrap for that man. We also now have a backup PF in Precious Achiuwa who fits very well on the second team. He's strong, aggressive, and can play outside and inside. We're going to have better lineups for sure. I give it about 5 games to fully click. Can't wait!

As a Toronto fan, OG was loved and the lockdown Dog that we will not be able to replaced. He is not a scorer but he is the guy you put on the best player of the apposing team and he will shut them down for the night. No more Stars showing out at the SMG.
As a Canadian, that's been following the Toronto Raptors from day one...OG gets injured often.. He normally misses 20 games a season... He was injured, Toronto championship year

wattup CK. I agree. I'm ultimately just hopeful on RJ (but that hope was quickly fading) and I really appreciate IQ and love him on the knicks....but yeah I'm wary of the hype around OG. I think the Raps do a nice job of hyping up their players. Yes the knicks get wing help so that's nice...and I'm looking forward to seeing how Precious can contribute. I'm just so so on OG. To me, I see this more as an IQ for OG trade.
IF OG is more consistent across the board (offense and defense), then the Knicks ultimately win this deal.

As a Raps fan I don’t think the trade was that bad on any side. I defo think Rj is less exciting than og or iq, but he’s still very young n has room for development, especially at home. OG is a star in his role tho he’s easily the best player by far in this trade so I’m sad to see him go, plus he’s a fan favourite. He isn’t the best creating off the dribble but dat boy can shoot and bully his way to the cup, also his best asset is he’s easily a top 3 defender in the league. He’ll benefit from playing alongside Brunson and I think u guys will see that his value is much more than what u can see on the stat sheet. No one got fleeced imo and I honestly wish we coulda robbed y’all of some 1st round draft picks but either way it’s exciting. Toronto definitely needed to break up this squad and focus on building around Scottie, but I always thought that Siakim would be the first one out, bc I would’ve rather kept OG than siakim if I’m being honest

I think this trade was best for RJ. He gets to go home and he'll probably ball out over there. Not having his growth stunted by Randle and I assume siakam is probably out the door soon as well.
As for the raptors they look like idiots. Held on to OG for too long that his trade value diminished to the point where they got pennies on the dollar. Which is no slight to RJ and IQ but going from 3 or 4 1st rounders from Memphis plus players to this while also giving up a solid big in precious to me screams that you fumbled the bag.
In totality, y'all gave up offense and your 2nd best playoff performer last year for a 3 and D point of attack defender who can't create his own shot and a big man to hopefully fill the hole mitch left. I think this makes the knicks a bit worse overall because y'all have too many streaky players and while that could lead to another 1st round upset in the playoffs it could also be the reason why y'all might get bounced out in 4 or 5.
Nick Nurse-burner said in the summer that Flynn was uncoachable, so far he is right. Maybe Thibs can get something out of him. But my friend OG, Achiuwa and Flynn, are all inconsistent, so get ready. Sometimes you wonder if OG is even out there on the court. He also gets eaten by athletic guys, his defense is decent, but overrated, just go look a the numbers they are average. Last night in the 4th quarter he was amazing on D, but was invisible for the first 3 quarters both defensively and offensively - as Brown went off on him. Achiuwa has potential, he will throw down and come up with a hard drive now and again, but he is undersized, and not good at really one thing...does a bit of it all, mildly. Never passes and never shy to try and improve his 22% 3pt shooting. Both he and Flynn suffer from attention span deficit - 4 games they're missing, one game they are decent. Trust this, Massi wouldn't give up an African born player easily unless he wasn't worth it.

OG is there to shut down the other team's star and he's able to hit the 3. As a Raps fan, I hate to see him go but we cant afford him at 40m a year. I know he'll take less to stay in NY, so im guessing maybe 30m or so a year for him? Im surprised Toronto got what they got for him considering his contract status which tells me that NY probably wasnt the only team showing interest in OG and had to pay a premium to get him although OG *wanted* to go to NY so Im not really sure why NY made the trade at all and just couldnt have waited until the offseason to sign him to a deal if OG truly wanted to head to NY. I wonder how much this move had to do with clearing up cap space so NY could sign OG in the first place as I dont know what the Knicks cap situation looks like. If that's the case, that's a pricey move on the Knicks part as I think itll heard your bench depth considerably.
You also gave up a lot for a guy that can walk at the end of this season as a free agent
And then we have 58 million in cap space for a loaded FA class.
I love RJ but he’s shown us what he can do for our team as currently constructed (imperfect) and we needed to move him. IQ wasn’t going to get the $$ he wanted here so he had to go too. The 2nd round draft pick was negligible. OG is a 3 and D wing we needed and precious is the back up PF we needed too. So all in all good trade in my book. However if this is the ONLY move we make it’s another bad trade season for us
