Was born and bred in Rhyl in the 70-80s. Parents had a Flatlet and also a Guest House near the suncentre. The late 80s saw the beginning of the decline in the old flatlet houses being turned in to multiple occupancy houses by greedy landlords. I moved 6 miles up the road and spent 25 years in Abergele. Used to go down to Rhyl Clubbing and i actually lived there in my later life for 1 year....such a crying shame what it has turned in to it really is....even though i'm now living in England, I have such fond memories of the place and what is was when i was growing up.
Kinmel camp was in Bodelwyddan hence why the Canadian graves are in the Marble Church grounds. The near-by Victorian built Bodelwyddan Castle also had "practise" trenches for the training of soldiers before being sent to WW1. Thanks for this video.
It's so depressing how far Rhyl has fallen, once a Blackpool style seaside town with arcades, Fair, pier with shows........... Now it's basically a run down town that's by the sea
Always been a dump but there we are. Before people call me a troll, I live in Rhyl lived there for 20 years (am 26 but finally been told that we're moving) and I hated it as a kid. Even when I used to come to Rhyl for day trips and I didn't live in Rhyl (used to live in Meliden) I hated Rhyl.
@@pengzichen6685 It is just a horrible place to be. You get more success being a criminal ironically. As for moving. I got rejected because I am disabled
@@thomasgeorge-gilmore950 Thank you for telling me that! Would you mind to have a chat with me on WhatsApp. I am a student from Goldsmiths, be conducting research around this Rhyl. I am very curious why it sounds like a criminal paradise as you described.
@@pengzichen6685 Basically, like many UK resorts the holiday trade suffered as a result of cheaper overseas holidays in the 70s/80s. Many of the large guest houses and hotels were converted to cheap multiple living. This brought an influx of poorer people and, unfortunately, people involved in criminal activity.
lived there 1953 to 1966 what a lucky kid amazing memories.. unique place as this film shows.

Rhyl was lovely. Like New Brighton it was allowed to decline.

A pound in 1960 meant a good feed of beer followed by fish and chips and the bus fare home.
One of the best beaches in the country.
I HATE BEEN HERE ON MY SCHOOL TRIP
The water in Venice is most definitely not Blue!
Now look at it, even less now. Good old corrupt Denbighshire council have really ripped the heart out the place.

I am very curious why you hate that? Cause looks everybody is fond of that place.🤔

It was good in the 60s, 70s and even 80s, but you are right in your time it has sadly declined.
