Nice upload. Most people don't realize there was a wheel without Pat and Vanna(been late 1981 since Chuck hosted and late 1982 since Susan Stafford co-hosted), or a daytime network version(ended in 1991). These shows are believed to be destroyed or lost and haven't been seen in roughly 40 years as you say
Robert, thanks for uploading this and I actually have the champ Michael's newspaper article from the Rutland VT Daily Herald. Great to put a visual to the plug!
Thank you for sharing! WOF always means Chuck and Susan to me since they're the ones I experienced it with in my childhood for six plus years. I kind of lost interest in the show after they changed the original theme music in 1983. And because Merv Griffin allowed the Woolery shows to be destroyed we can't re-experience them on GSN like other great game show classics. Thank you contestants for your recording foresight and your generosity in sharing with the rest of us!
To what extent Griffin "allowed" erasure to happen is a questionable conclusion, though I can definitely ask some experts I talk with on that. It is understood, though, that a number of shows, seemingly more so on NBC and ABC, held common practice of erasing game shows or other types of programming that it was felt had no value to keep in archive. Whether Griffin had any say in that is debatable, that might have been totally out of his hands.
Thank you, Lynn and Robert, for this! I was a contestant on Wheel nine years ago, and mentioned that I waited about 30 years to be on this show! I never wanted to miss a single episode in the daytime. I loved watching contestants shop for cars, trips, and clothing!
Great upload, Robert. There aren't many of these pre-1983 episodes of Wheel of Fortune left in current circulation due to NBC taping them over with other programs over the years (especially the pre-1980 episodes with Charlie O'Donnell announcing, before he left to work on The Toni Tennille Show). Even though NBC stopped taping over after 1980, King World execs stated some of the daytime episodes of Wheel as late as 1985 were still taped over.
Wheel of Fortune daytime Timeline on the internet says San Francisco week was the week of 5/11-5/15/1981, since they're plugging prizes from San Fran here like Ghirardelli chocolates, this could be from that week.
Pat told me that you are the official Wheel of Fortune historian. Well, actually someone that I know that knows Pat told me that you're the historian. Well, maybe that's a stretch. Somebody that I know that knows someone else that knows Pat may have said that you're the WOF historian. Do you know Pat?

Definite rarities here, not to mention relatively little footage of WoF from 1981 currently circulates...thanks for sharing!
That's because Sony keeps interfering with their disputes of copyright claims unfortunately😒. And yes, this IS a gem.💎

We had no idea that Griffin did that.

18:04 is neat to hear. It was normally used to go to a commercial.
Hey, these episodes of Wheel aired before I was born! I was born on Flag Day of 1981!
Another part to my dream of Crystal Gayle was we got on a verson of Wheel Of Fortune With Loretta Lynn Michael J. Fox M

@@muddstock I'm a 40 year plus armchair game show fan essentially, who started on the internet game show community in 1996.
It was on KRON at 9:30 am at the time, when Pat swooped in it was at 10 AM
Great to see more Woolery WOF episodes surface, and i assume since the first two have been uploaded that the third will be coming soon.
It's up.
Way to go Lynn. I know she was a great player, but did she win three games in a row? Good choice on getting those chocolate bars.
Watch the other episodes to find out. ;)
Despite having won a good chunk of the prizes on the 3rd show, she was edged out by one of the other contestants.
@@muddstock I saw that episode, however we couldn't tell who won because of the special report.
@@brentrogers4774What was the report about that interrupted the episode?
