  • Short video of original 1967 John Deere 60 lawn tractor with replacement engine making a pass going downhill on asphalt with snow blade. Tractor does not have wheel weights or chains and needed pushed to get back to top of hill.
We added tire chains and wheel weights after the clip was shot and it drove without issues.
Tool safety and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) has not been discussed in great detail in this video. It is up to the person using the tool to know and understand how to properly use the tools. Push sticks and other tool safety aids are always advised whether they were demonstrated in this video or not.

Which do you prefer? The blower, or the plow? I'm going to hopefully look at a blower attachment for my old 60 this weekend.

The blower will pick up snow and remove it from the driveway without needing to keep pushing and trying to compact it into a growing snow pile.
The driveway in the video shows how easily snow with depth can be removed.
If you are wanting to remove an inch or two of snow, the 60’s thrower will not do as well as the blade to push it off.
I cleaned a friend’s driveway with my 60 & thrower a few years back with snow about 4” deep. I saw a guy pushing snow in a larger tractor with a blade bouncing around in the cab as he pushed snow and slammed it into the growing pile. I was a jealous of his cab keeping him warm. When I left 10 minutes later, having cleared my friend’s driveway except for some small hand shoveling, the bigger rig was still working hard. I’ll bet they were jealous of my thrower.

Also, wet heavy snow will plug the chute of the thrower. A couple squirts of cooking spray in the chute helps, but will not prevent the ocasional blockage
