What makes it even more funny is the fact that the figurine in the cannon is a miniature version of Beckett himself. It kind of foreshadows Beckett's later demise in the movie.

Although it's short, I love that brief fight between Barbossa and Mercer. Mercer may be a coldblooded assassin, but he really picked the wrong fight. And you can tell Barbossa really gets into the spirit when it comes to sword fighting, cuz you can hear him laughing gleefully as they trade blows.

Yes, because of the former succes of the movies. But without a script by Ted elliot and Terry Rossio it already is an indication for me that it's going to be a flop, and it was, and I'm certainly not the only one. One of the reasons I dislike it is that they're saving money on production costs, filming almost all the scenes that are supposed to be at sea with a blue screen, which is very easy to see it's fake. The former 4 movies used an actual ship (in the first movie they build 2 on a barge and used one tall ship, in the second they built 2 seaworthy ships and used 2 other tall ships, in the third they build another vessel and in the fourth they rebuild the Black Pearl into the Queen Anne, another seaworthy vessel. In the 5th installment they only used decks with bluescreen and made one schooner that had only a few scenes on the actual sea)
It's not a flop if it does pretty dam good at box office which it has. Some critics hated it some loved it. But to say it's riding the previous titles success is a bit much. Again you opinion in welcome but not everyone shares it. Johnny Depp and team can turn a terrible script into a lovely movie.

It was always satisfying seeing Jack send Will's ass to the brig. Most of Jack's plans for betrayal were almost always for appearances only. He planned to go after the heart and eliminate Jones completely. But Will's impatient, hot shot, wannabe pirate ass never had the patience to wait and see.
Shame that one of the few times Will caught on to Jack's true plan was in the first movie when he noticed that Jack secretly hid one of the cursed coins up his sleeve after scooping a handful of them and dropping each one to make a point to Barbossa to kill each of the Royal Navy soldiers to get a second ship.

I love the brief, but important fight between Ian Mercer and Barbossa. Up until then, Mercer is seen as a near unstoppable force, pursuing and killing as an assassin, but against Barbossa he's nothing but a coward and leaps over-board XD
Jack and Beckett are definitely archenemies not only because of their past, but also because they’re complete foils of each other. While Beckett is ruthless and stoic, Jack is able to provide a goofy atmosphere.
Love how there's like half a second of film that shows the cannon is pointed right at the mast. These films had both continuity and attention to detail.
Sometimes we forget jack is in fact the smartest most Clever pirate to live. His outwitted dozens of dangerous people, escaped from seemingly impossible situations, and even out crazied himself. All without a single drop of rum
Can we talk about the parallels though?? In Curse of the Black Pearl, Jack's plan with Norrington is almost the same plan he makes here with Beckett. And at the end, it's just like in CotBP when Will and Jack commandeer the Interceptor. The two sequels mirror/reference the first movie so wonderfully. I love these movies so much.
It's a shame Mr. Mercer didn't get enough screen time or enough lines. He would have made an awesome secondary main villain. He's one of my favorite characters in the series.

Jack and Beckett are definitely archenemies not only because of their past, but also because they’re complete foils of each other. While Beckett is ruthless and stoic, Jack is able to provide a goofy atmosphere.

Sometimes we forget jack is in fact the smartest most Clever pirate to live. His outwitted dozens of dangerous people, escaped from seemingly impossible situations, and even out crazied himself.

Can we talk about the parallels though?? In Curse of the Black Pearl, Jack's plan with Norrington is almost the same plan he makes here with Beckett. And at the end, it's just like in CotBP when Will and Jack commandeer the Interceptor. The two sequels mirror/reference the first movie so wonderfully. I love these movies so much.

This was my favorite movie as a kid. I went back to the theater to see it again. Several times.
It's a shame Mr. Mercer didn't get enough screen time or enough lines. He would have made an awesome secondary main villain. He's one of my favorite characters in the series.
