Glee was one of the few tv shows in that period of time on television that had a diverse cast and talked about a lot of taboo issues that as a society we are still learning how to handle it. Therefore, there are many things that when we look back on them based in our consciousness and perspective of today it is with a certain look of criticism. However, there are other tv series like 13 Reasons Why and Euphoria that came a while after Glee and continued to repeat worse mistakes.

Agreed, you'd have to wonder WHY Will and Sue were still allowed to work at that school. Not to mention, Will is close enough to his students to invite them over to his house, and even made Finn, who was about 19, his best man at his wedding to Emma?! 😮
@@trinaq will was racist because at competitions rachel and finn lead the Song while Mercedes belts out the final notes and it wasn't the other way around
i know sue's casual homophobia is terrible but every time i see that scene where she's calling each glee club member and calls kurt "gay kid", i lose it HFJSDHFK
"Glee" was a guilty pleasure of mine, though I admit that the way they handled Blaine's "Bi" plot was Cringy, even in 2011. Kurt claims that NOBODY can like more than one gender, and Blaine's drunken kiss with Rachel was an "experiment." Sure enough, Kurt is proven right, and isn't called out for his blatant biphobia. 😤
Its like Ryan Murphy and the "writers" (if you wanna call them that) were basically stuck in the 1950s. Talk about asleep at the wheel, in terms of wokeness, those idiots were in a coma
I personally as a bi person don't think Kurt was biphobic, I mean, he never had trouble with Brittany, who is actually bi, before, he was just jealous of Blaine liking some who is not him, especially a girl, and especially being from the only person he knows is gay, and him being bi meaned less chances to be with him, BUT I do think he was completely wrong that he didn't accept another member from the LGBT community right away, independently if he was gay, bi or whatever. And I do think it's something that a teenage gay person who lives in Ohio that has as only experience an "apparently straight but gay person" would say, and I prefer him with flaws than a perfect TEENAGE gay boy. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.
Totally agree. I just saw Shooting Star for the first time. And the fact that Sue didn't really get punished for bringing a gun to work. I was a victim of a school shooting and seeing that makes me so annoyed.
"Do I get a supervillian nickname?" "You're nickname is Panda Express" "But i'm not chinese" "Neither is the food at Panda Express" That was really funny though.
@@kepr13 Please note that Panda Express gets mocked for being "Not Chinese" when it was started by Chinese people and is to this day run by Chinese Americans, so a white character claiming the food at a restaurant isn't "real" Chinese food when it was started by Chinese people is pretty shitty.
Kevin McHale (Artie) actually wanted to be Finn but since he was so talented they offered him Artie. Darren Criss (Blaine) also wanted to be Finn and he was so good and talented as well that they created Blaine just for him. Also Sue being homophobic, racist etc is part of her character. She’s not supposed to be liked by the general public at all up until the end of the show
THIS. I'm not sure why people don't seem to understand that fictional characters aren't all supposed to be likable or politically correct. Sue isn't supposed to be a role model, she's basically the antagonist of the series.
It's because Glee was so outrageous and nobody actually liked the core members of Glee club (Will, Rachel and Finn) to the point that when Sue was being the antagonist... it was just Karma. "Fuck you Glee club" attitude.
Left out Will sexualizing the girls in Glee club and I am not just talking about the Marley part. Also Will’s weird really close friendship with the Glee club members to the point that Finn is his best man. Teachers can have friendships with students but their students shouldn’t be their only friendship
As an Asian, I totally felt the “Asian F” episode, but I not that I was offended by it, I was upset that the story arc wasn’t longer than one episode. You wanna talk about stereotypes? This list didn’t even point out that Tina took up the role as the team’s solo seamstress/tailor in the same vain as a single-handed sweatshop.
I concur. It felt like Tina and Mike were pushed to the wayside, in favour of other characters. It even got to the point where almost EVERYTHING they did seemed to be Asian related: They met at "Asian Summer Camp", and when they're having relationship troubles, Mike even suggests that they go to an "Asian Couples Counsellor?! 🤦🏻♀️
How about Kurt's crush on Finn. Kurt being a walking sterotype. Will shaming Marley for not wearing a bikini during a performance, Rachel not getting punished for sending Sunshine to a crack house, or Will being friends with his students
I agree with all of these except Will being friends with his students. I don't get what the big deal is about teachers and students being friends? Of course teachers having relationships with their students aren't okay, but friendship...that is something actually think should happen more. Teachers shouldn't just be people who tell their students stuff. They should bond with them as well.
@@benlevin478 But there should still be a line. It's weird how basically all his friends are his students, and that one of them served as his best man.
This show only stopped working, because Ryan Murphy doesn't know how to keep a show running at excellent quality more than a season or two. There's a reason (most) of these poor decisions occurred after Season 2, the moment most Glee fans agree is when the show's quality took a nosedive (but ESPECIALLY after Season 3). Eventually, the storylines/characters/general plot consistency slips, and it just becomes sloppy fanservice. See also Scream Queens, AHS, Nip/Tuck.
I wouldn't count AHS in that same category. Murder House is one of the weaker seasons, while Coven, Asylum and Hotel easily beat them. Freak Show, Cult and Roanoke were still good seasons, but they all had their shortcomings. Right now I'm starting on Apocalypse.
@@charfree6888 one of the glee club members, ryder, opened up to the club and talked about how he was sexually abused by his babysitter when he was little. sam and artie guilted him into saying it wasn't a big deal and that he should be proud of it. mr shue and the other members don't really do anything or say anything about it, and it's never mentioned in the series again :(
Terri drugging the kids And what Sue did to the McKinley kids was bad but the stuff that she physically put the Carmel High kids! (aka Vocal Adrenaline) making them walk through burning coal, etc The school allowing a explicit calendar featuring their underage students
It’s musical dramedy, and to be honest it was meant to be a satire but with its subject matter “grounded” so all of this options, minus the artie and beiste casting, were valid points
It’s like in 21 jump street when the two realize that it’s not just the jocks and the cheerleaders who are the cool kids anymore, and it’s all because of glee. Then he says “fu** you glee!!”😂😂
Half of these I agree. The other half... well stuff like that DOES happen in real life. Some teachers go on dates with their underage students, some teenagers strip on clubs, and some people insult others based on their sexual preferences or skin tone, like Sue. Of course is not OK, but I think it represents more accurately some stuff that happens in real life 🤷♀️
@@DrGregoryHouseIT so? Should we take everything Glee ever portrayed as satire and therefore not believable? Sounds like a lame excuse for a show that just could have been better at some point. And I think Glee handled some topics very well like internalized homophobia (Karofsky and Santana). On the other hand issues such as sexual assault, eating disorders etc. are very poorly portrayed.
Don’t know if it’s related or not but Santana was going to be suspended for slapping Finn, but she had fights with Lauren and Quinn in the hallways and neither of them got suspended? Lauren was next level violent to Santana, and Santana slapped Quinn too Then they suspended Rachel for trying to change the votes to get Kurt to win class president but they did nothing when Kurt was constantly bullied before and the prom queen votes were changed to make fun of him Also the other students constantly harassing the glee club kids (and Sue, putting dirt on Santana & Brittany’s lockers, throwing sticks at Mercedes and embarrassing Blaine in front of the whole school just because he didn’t want to be on the cheerios) Gotta add another one, Finn was suspended for walking in the hallways only in his underwear but Mr Schue was making both him and Sam (Sam’s costume was basically just boxers) to appear like that on a play, Finn and Marley weren’t comfortable with the costumes they had to use for Mr.Schue’s assignments and they were pushed to do so still, it took Finn getting suspended to let him and Sam change wardrobes for the play
When Ryder opened up about getting molested as a child; Sam and Artie never get in trouble for how insensitive they are, and the issue is never brought up again.
I liked the Storyline of Rachel having a crush on Mr Shue. It just happens and Mr Shue told her in a respectful but honest tone to back off. I was really into this.
Plus he also (for once) handled that issue pretty well other than singing with Rachel, but even that he regretted without anyone having to tell him it was wrong
Absolutely. That was very realistic. I, too, had a crush on my favorite teacher in high school. Lots of other girls had crushes on him, too. It was good to see that story line represented. I also agree that it was handled well.
I agree with all those points, except for Artie character, being able to play a disabled character for years is a talent and yes a disabled character could’ve played the role, but there’s a line as to how many roles actors can’t play anymore.
I agree with you. Artie had scenes where they 'imagined him being able to walk,' too. I guess they could've written that part out if they had a disabled actor, but I'm not sure what the hiring pool for disabled actors is in Hollywood.
Precisely, they needed someone who could dance and sing, even if the character was confined to a wheelchair. Ironically enough, Kevin McHale was actually one of the best dancers in the show!🕺🏾💃
Sheldon being played by a cis woman isn't wrong. I'm trans, and when i found out i couldn't stop just being SO excited to see Sheldon transition, it doesn't matter the actor isn't trans.
@Matthew Mattocks I totally agree. Beiste was a great character, a non steortypical female who just wanted to be viewed as that... a female. It really felt they just threw in the transition story right at the end.
So it doesn't matter to you that cis actors get to play cis and trans characters at will, while trans actors rarely get the chance to play either? An actor doesn't need to be identical to the character, that's why it's acting, but trans actors should get the same opportunities as cis actors. If they can't play trans characters, and they can't play cis characters, who exactly can they play?
@@thehobbem i get that, don't get me wrong, but just the fact there's Even trans People in the series is amazing, and extremly modern. Glee was literally the definition of "we're so progressive and diverse, we have all these characters from different backgrounds. . .but we're just keeping them in the background." God forbid we create a black female character that's shy or timid and not just "sassy, finger wagging ,neck snapping" stereotypes. Or instead of just constantly referring to our Asian character as "Asian" we could refer to him as Chinese and make him an average student, ya know. @@PsychologyWizard thats something you should report to authorities, not brag about. Its disgusting and depending on your age when it happened its statutory rape. Don't make rape look like a positive thing to happen.
I think you shouldn't be brushing off all of Glee as "just satire". Besides from the stereotypical characters (Karofsky being a closeted gay homophobic bully, Mercedes the black sassy woman etc.) I think the topics and issues portrayed in Glee are very much serious.
@@barracuda0405 tbh the show was meant to be satirical but as it went on they developed the characters and gave them new complex storylines which made them totally lose their ironic aspect, sometimes it was α good thing (like discovering santana is a closeted lesbian and not just a promiscuous mean cheerleader) and sometimes it was just not it (sexual assaults, eating disorders and more were mishandled)
The problem with Glee is that the producers couldn’t decide whether to make it a comedy/satire that occasionally addresses serious issues, or a serious show that occasionally has some funny lines.
I have to agree with you. It’s meant to be satirical, addressing social issues in the safe space of comedy. Of note though, there does seem to be a heightened awareness now of some of the issues the show brought attention to during its run. So, some of the satire may feel overwrought to the current viewer.
I admit that these are VERY valid points, but don’t forget that glee has helped so many people to deal with their sexualities. While also, teaching us about so many important life lessons.
Shoe: Because you're all minorities Me: *a white teen girl who is a theatre and choir geek and has not seen the struggles ACTUAL minorities go through* HOW ARE YOU A TEACHER?!
When glee started I thought it was so diverse and had the potential to be a great and progressive show, but they pigeonholed their minority characters and made them one note background characters just like so many other shows so. There were so many situations where they could have given them good long term character development, but they didn't.
I think the context is different, Sue calls him a blouse and then he asks this. It's not because he doesn't know what that is, he just wants to know what Sue means
A lot of those things as Ms Mojo said were problematic back then and still are. The way bisexuality and race were handled was horrible and offensive, also the fact that Britney wasn't a well developed character speakes a lot how she was a comidic relif when she was supposed to be the bisexual represention.
@@Slm99 I mean Santana had a lot of internalized homophobia. Take her bad relationship with her mother for example or how she slapped Finn when he outed her (well deserved by the way). But she also slept with multiple boys and I genuinely think she had feelings for Puck.
@@Slm99 I think she had a lot of character developement. Maybe she always knew she was gay and it just took her some roundabouts to fully accept her sexuality. Such as being with men or denying her relationship with Britney
Some of these are just dark humor that is supposed to make you laugh but also reflect on certain stereotypes. Glee is based on over-the-top stereotypes, rude jokes and caricatures, without them the show wouldn't be the same, it would be just another unnecessary 13 reasons why (s2-s4).
Sam stripped as a teenager to make money to help his family. That is extreme but an accurate portrayal of post-recession America in the mid 2000s. Kids can and do still take full-time jobs to fulfil monetary support roles within their families.
There was so much more biphobia than that thought, when santana tells brittany that she loves her she completely dismisses the fact that Brittany loves Artie because he's a guy, Demi's character tells santana she needs 100% lesbian to make her happy, and I'm pretty sure that after Brittany and Santana get back together Brittany is refered to at least once but probably more as a lesbian..
Amber Riley has more talent in her baby finger than Lea Michele could ever dream of. Check out her solo work as Riley. FYI: I think this is the fourth one of these style of videos on Glee this month. Can we please do Friends. That is even worse at times.
It's kind of logical that it's worse at times, since Glee was 2009-2015, while Friends was 1994-2004, so many of the issues people nowadays would have with Friends had already gotten a bit better when Glee started
I don't see you mentioning Darren Criss playing a gay character when he's straight. But sure go after the cis woman. Acting is being someone you're not. Authenticity is good but isn't it unfair to the other GOOD ACTORS if everyone just wants to hire authentic people instead of actually good actors?
Gay actors can play straight characters, and vice versa. Your personal sexuality shouldn't influence your character, and it shouldn't be their only defining trait.
@@trinaq I can't tell if you're being sarcastic/agreeing with me through text. So I'm just gonna say that in acting things like sexuality of an actor shouldn't matter

This is stupid. Glee was an unapolagetically out there show. It picked fun at the exact groups it defended. Any "offensive" jokes were made more to make fun of the person making them than they were making fun of the minorities. It definitely had some misfires and poorly handled serious issues, but it brought a lot of comfort and joy to people that felt like outcasts. Anyone that was ACTUALLY offended by these jokes clearly didn't understand the premise of the show at all. Also- cutting any of Sue's offensive jokes would have made the show 40% less funny. Real talk.
Heck, even Sesame Street has an offensive character: Oscar the Grouch! Like Oscar, Sue was clearly meant to be an example of how people are NOT supposed to behave.
At least 98% of glee would absolutely not work today They had so so much talent on this show which they under utilized to continually but Rachel or Finn in the lead they under developed and under appreciated a lot of the original and ne’er cast members for as good as the show was it could been that much if they took the time to develop other characters and storyline and friendships etc
Im rewatching Glee with a friend who never seen it, and we were commenting on that even if it falls on sterotypes the show really tried to be progressive, and for the time i think it was one of the first shows to touch subjects like this, it was like the beggining of representation and i think that thanks to it nowdays these themes are much more normalized and we can enjoy other shows or movies with better representation, what i mean is that glee was just the start
I imagine a lot of Glee is from the writers experiences in HS from the 70s, 80s etc. obviously for age reasons current students won’t be writing glee so I take it as what’s happening is being dramatized but probably was common at the time
I think that one, if not the most, nice contribution of Glee is that is made obvious that many of the issues stated on this video exist in a time when many people were not aware of it. And bringing things right to your face is what helps bringing issues to debate
Every negative point that could be made about this show has been made. Several times. Often by this channel, reusing the same few negative parts over and over and over and over and over again For every bit of bad this show did, it did something good, too. Try focusing on the positives or try not talking about it at all. It's had a bit of a resurgence lately so people want to see stuff about it that's new. Santana singing "If i die young", puck saying he would "be in jail or dead" in ten years and dating younger girls, ryder being physical towards Marley/the others.. how they handled suspension: Santana being suspended from glee because she was a cheerleader and a cheerleade set fire to a piano while Santana was there, Marley getting suspended for not wanting to be in a bikini in front of everyone while it was totally okey when Sam and Artie didn't want to show off their body, Santana almost getting suspended for slapping Finn for outing her while it was okey for Finn hitting Puck for sleeping with Quinn and for Lauren to get in a fight with Santana, and not to mention it having no consequences what so ever for Becky coming to school with a gun or Rachel sending a girl to a crackhouse..
I disagree a bit with the Coach Beiste one. I have no experience myself, but I believe not everyone immediately knows whether they are trans or not. That decision was most likely made later on to make Beiste trans so they casted a woman to begin with. Plus I think some people take time to figure out who they are, and maybe that could explain his actions. At the beginning, he thought he was a girl and was supposed to be one, even though he was not a stereotypical girl, and maybe later he finally realized that he didn't want to be a girl anymore and became the guy that he finally was supposed to be. Also Sam stripping is not overly problematic. Yeah, its terrible, but sometimes that is what poor kids have to do to stay alive. How many underage male and female prostitutes and strippers do you think there are? It's really sad and terrible, but it's the reality for some kids.
I think that at 5:50 y’all are kinda wrong because like if they did cast someone who was disabled as Artie then the directors and creators wouldn’t be able to do what they wanted to do with all the dream sequence dances and other things. Just a thought
I totally agree it is the biphobia for me to because I am bisexual I don't like people joking about biphobia because it is really mean and rude to do when people take it very seriously
I’m bi, and I could ignore both Kurt, and Santana’s because they were hurting. It’s not right, but we say mean things when we’re in pain, but Dani just being biphobic with not excuse made me question Kurt, and Santana’s lines

The way that the boys's low self esteem around the Rocky Horror thing was so bad and not addressed at all. Sam worked out a lot and didn't eat to lose weight and get buffer, never seeing the abs in his stomach. The Finn said that he hated his torso so much he started showering with a shirt on.
What is even worst than number 4 is when Sam courageously confided in the glee club about when he was sexually abused by his babysitter when he was around 12yo and then every guy reacts with how he should feel lucky and proud that an older girl did that 🙄 As a survivor myself, it disgusted me how male sexual abuse was treated on the show....
I am so sorry that happened to you. We in society really need to treat issues like that with the seriousness it deserves. Not only do they say that, but if I was scue I would check in on how Ryder was feeling afterwards. If I was him I would have asked Ryder if he wanted to step out. I wouldn’t have just let them continue saying those things. He doesn’t even sound mad at what they are saying to Ryder. I hate him for not stopping the male students comments quickly.
@@lizaharris5930 I know right! I couldn’t believe a teacher would let others make these comments, especially since it was apparent that Ryder was uncomfortable with the whole situation. @@catheseries I hate to say this but sue is right. How did he get teacher of the year? !? He favored Rachel, he called you a minorite for being on glee club which though I am white, invalidates the experience of being a minority in the United States. he didn’t protect the trans woman in glee club(I really struggling spelling that word), he didn’t punish Rachel for sending someone to a crackhouse, he got ticked off when he found out Santana repeorted him cause she felt her culture was being disrespected which was a valid thing to do in that scenario, he scoffed when finding out the song he sung was about date rape, he called the trans woman in his glee club “definitely a male” despite fact that the trans woman is you guessed it? A woman. He also suspended Marley for not doing the assignment when if he was upset at her for it he could have just had a private talk about doing things beyond your comfort level/teamwork. he also watched Finn shower and then planted weed in his locker so he would join. if he wanted Finn to join he could have simply asked him and tell him “hey dude. I overheard you singing. You sounded great. I am forming a singing club if you want to try out.” But instead he watched a teen shower! It creeps me out that he did that. Sorry for the long paragraph. I can’t break it up on my phone. he was truly the creepiest teacher.
The body shaming of Marley from Mr. Schue, the constant homophobic/transphobic names Quinn called Rachel, toxic relationships. There was so many things wrong with this show.
But some of these things make sense. Quinn being homophobic and transphobic is fine because it's a reality in our society and inside high schools. Toxic relationships, too. What wouldn't be acceptable is treating these things like they're okay or funny.
the weirdest part about the "rachel being topless" plot is that Lea needed to be topless 7 days a week while playing Wendla in Spring Awakening... I always thought that this plot was kind of offensive even towards her
The fact that Puck had to get Quinn drunk to get her to sleep with him! Drunk consent is not consent! She even said that she only did it because she was drunk on wine coolers.
I used to be so tight watching Glee and seeing Rachel get all the good parts. I will always say that the great Mrs. Amber Riley was anc still is the better singer 💯🤷🏾♂️
Below college, pretty positive it is illegal to date your students, even if they are legal, because it’s an abuse of power. Teachers have legal rights to command their students and discipline them, so any relationship is an abuse of this power.
And whose fault is all of this? Ryan Murphy's. Chord Overstreet wasn't insecure about his lips until he started working on the show and I'm sure the same happened with a lot of the other actors on glee too.
true, the whole Lea and Naya thing, finn wasn't insecure about his weight, and when Santana ditched Kurt in season 6 it was directly at Chris, because Ryan wasn't happy about how popular he was getting.. they had to shoot mulitiple times because Chris started crying and still they went with it..
I agree ferociously with all of this list, especially the teen/adult relationship storylines. It's really one of my pet peeves. I never find it cute or romantic. I just see an adult preying on a child. However, I kind of disagree with the Rachel/Mr Shue one. I found it really well handled. It's not uncommon for young girls to fall for older guys, but it's the adult's responsibility to "kill" that crush and put boundaries - which Mr Shue does. He's clearly uncomfortable with the unwanted attention, and tells her several times a relationship between them would be inappropriate. I think you should have gone with the kiss between Finn and Emma. There were so many issues with this one: 1. It came out of nowhere. Finn never, EVER showed any attraction towards Emma. In fact, I can count on one hand the times they interacted... 2. They clearly wrote it to show the viewers Finn was now an adult (in fact, the storyline between the nurse and Sam was supposed to be between Finn and her). As if you automatically turn into an adult once you hit 18 or you get out or highschool. Like, no, that's not how it works. And 3., Mr Shue's reaction made it a thousand times worse. Not only Finn was still barely out of highschool, he was very confused because he thought his life was getting nowhere. He didn't get accepted into what he thought was his dream school, and his soulmate was building a life outside him and the (very restricted) world he was still stuck in. The kiss was clearly a mistake born of that, but Mr Shue acted like it was premeditated and treated him like the adult he wasn't. (Not to mention it was so inconsistent with Mr Shue's character as he had been presented till then: a caring, empathetic teacher who knew the psychology of teenagers and therefore, shouldn't have held it over Finn's head like that.)
Yes the Older and Younger relationships are obviously frowned upon in life, but it does happen, I think that's why it was portrayed, also Sam stripped as a teenager for money for his family, I doubt he wanted to. I think that was kind of understood in the show, some of these are out of context imo
You forgot Ryder's being abused as a child and guys make fun of it because "what boy doesn't want to have an affair with his babysitter?". OK the scene with Kitty shows that it was not ok, but the guys were never confronted to how idiot, offensive and not empathic they were. And that's make me mad, till this day.
Some of this are just plain ridiculous, actors are supposed to play parts of people different than them, that's the job, that's their craft, it's ok to create opportunities for talented people, but no to force things just because
As far as representation of minorities on Glee goes, I think that's true about more than just race. I'm a die-hard Gleek, but one thing on Glee that I really disliked, and that we don't talk about nearly enough, was Sugar Motta and her "self-diagnosed Asperger's." I never expected the show to represent EVERY race, ethnicity, religion, culture, sexuality, and disability under the sun. It would be ridiculous to. But as someone who actually DOES have Asperger Syndrome, I would really have appreciated if they had a character, preferably a glee club member, who actually DID have Asperger Syndrome (or was somewhere on the autism spectrum) and was cast in a little bit more of a positive light. Sugar Motta's character stereotypes people with autistic disorders as obstinate, attention-seeking, and having an inherent lack of talent, and the fact that it was "self-diagnosed," meaning she probably didn't actually have it, makes things worse for the autistic community by making it seem like autistic disorders, especially particularly high-functioning ones, are something that people with those disorders make up to get attention or get away with things. Not only is that not the case, but it perpetuates autism and traits/behaviors associated with it as being inherently bad, which is something that I, along with the rest of the autistic community, has a hard enough time with.
@@jeanbean7183 I’ve never really known the general viewer’s opinion of Sugar, it just really bothers me that she’s the closest thing the show has to a character with autism, and the way she’s portrayed spreads a lot of lies and casts people with autism in a negative light.
@@the_autistic_advocate exactly I’m on the spectrum as well ( for me the closest characters we have had Accurate depictions of autism were Julia from Sesame Street, Aj gadgets from hero elementary ( I am aware that these are kid shows) and billy from the power rangers movie reboot ( makes sense with the original character and probably why he was my second favorite ranger green ranger was first, blue ranger was second, yellow ranger third ) and a character in a horror movie called come play that’s coming out this year on Halloween and the Disney movie true confessions
ok but some things are taken out of proportion. glee was a satire comedy show, every character was a stereotypes that was the whole point of it. finn is the goofy but nice quarterback, rachel is the annoying jewish girl who tries too hard, puck is the bully and bad boy, kurt is the “feminine” gay into broadway and fashion, mercedes is the sassy curvy black woman, quinn is the mean cheerleader who’s perfect, brittany is the dumb blonde.... it was satire. as the show went on, the writers developed the characters and gave them new storylines which made them lose their ironic side and made them more human (santana being a lesbian for example), but at the start the whole point of the show was to be ironic and stereotypical
The way Glee handled sexual assault is the worst. They joke about Tina "vapo-raping" Blaine and always falling for gay men. Sue drugged and took advantage of Figgins to blackmail him. The other guys said Ryder should have been happy his babysitter assaulted him as a kid. i hate sue's remarks but ngl, i kinda have to laugh out of shock. sometimes the remarks are too bad to laugh, even if it's a shocked kind of laugh, but when she says things like "oh sorry i just realised that you were playing the national anthem of whatever country you're from" to tina and mike, i have to 'laugh' (in a shocked 'did she just say that' kind of way)
sue was so unapologetic I hated her but also loved her. Like other characters also had the same stereotypes as her but at least she was honest and funny about them. And the actor delivery was just the best. And when she called out Will bs >>>>

Also the other students constantly harassing the glee club kids (and Sue, putting dirt on Santana & Brittany’s lockers, throwing sticks at Mercedes and embarrassing Blaine in front of the whole school just because he didn’t want to be on the cheerios)
Gotta add another one, Finn was suspended for walking in the hallways only in his underwear but Mr Schue was making both him and Sam (Sam’s costume was basically just boxers) to appear like that on a play, Finn and Marley weren’t comfortable with the costumes they had to use for Mr.Schue’s assignments and they were pushed to do so still, it took Finn getting suspended to let him and Sam change wardrobes for the play

2009 was a simpler time back when there were no smartphones and when social media was for adults only
I disagree a bit with the Coach Beiste one.
Just a thought
it’s the biphobia for me🤦🏾♀️
Ik and we needed more ace aro representation
I totally agree it is the biphobia for me to because I am bisexual I don't like people joking about biphobia because it is really mean and rude to do when people take it very seriously
@@dolphinqueen9166 it’s the fact they invalidate our struggle
I hated it how they write Kurt so well but then he has to say that... and cheat on Blaine on 3x17
I’m bi, and I could ignore both Kurt, and Santana’s because they were hurting. It’s not right, but we say mean things when we’re in pain, but Dani just being biphobic with not excuse made me question Kurt, and Santana’s lines
I love how 11 years after its or original airing MsMojo is still posting Glee content
I'm rewatching it now and ooohhh boy alot of the stuff that went on in this show was ridiculous but that's honestly why it is enjoyable, because on current TV doesn't show things like t hjis anymore, even if it's for the better they don't show this stuff anymore
The way that the boys's low self esteem around the Rocky Horror thing was so bad and not addressed at all. Sam worked out a lot and didn't eat to lose weight and get buffer, never seeing the abs in his stomach. The Finn said that he hated his torso so much he started showering with a shirt on.
I also hate how they handled Blaine's very obvious depression in S4-6. They mentioned it once in S6. Once.
*Ryder
And you're totally right!
@@ZentaYason Oh, right! Thanks for telling me, 🙂 I haven’t seen the episode since it aired
@@lizaharris5930 I know right! I couldn’t believe a teacher would let others make these comments, especially since it was apparent that Ryder was uncomfortable with the whole situation. I can’t imagine how one would feel is that was the reaction they got after mustering up the courage to tell others about their trauma. No one deserves that (even tv characters aha)
The world became to sensitive to handle this show
I think the whole 'Mr. Shue planting drugs in Finn's locker to blackmail him into joining the Glee Club' part should have been somewhere in here.
@@corsariocapitao true, and what I meant by toxic relationships is one of the main relationships in the show being deemed romantic when it's toxic
Mr. Schue wouldn't work today 😬 (His character didn't work back then either)...
Just 10? I can think of 20 of the top of my head. 😆
"sam stripping as a teenager" have you seen riverdale? that kinda shit is still making it big on TV these days lol.
the weirdest part about the "rachel being topless" plot is that Lea needed to be topless 7 days a week while playing Wendla in Spring Awakening... I always thought that this plot was kind of offensive even towards her
People said that Glee is a cursed show because of the cast and things in the show that wouldn't work today
The fact that Puck had to get Quinn drunk to get her to sleep with him! Drunk consent is not consent! She even said that she only did it because she was drunk on wine coolers.
And he even lied about using a condom. And then they had her fall in love with him.
Glee was filled with stereotypes, but I think that it was a step in the right direction
okay the panda express joke was a CLASSIC though. people these days are too sensitive
Actually no. . . they're not all minorities.
@@annikalava17 Wait what happened where Chris kept crying? If you don't mind explaining that situation
@@annikalava17 yup
There were so many issues with this one:
Some of this are just plain ridiculous, actors are supposed to play parts of people different than them, that's the job, that's their craft, it's ok to create opportunities for talented people, but no to force things just because
How could they mock britney spears! Especially the iconic lip-syncing fiasco . That would not have worked today.
I have never watched this show ( I am just watching the video out of boredom) but I agree with you
@@jeanbean7183 I’ve never really known the general viewer’s opinion of Sugar, it just really bothers me that she’s the closest thing the show has to a character with autism, and the way she’s portrayed spreads a lot of lies and casts people with autism in a negative light.
Everything about Glee is very problematic but we still love it
Demi Lovato is bisexual in real life and she played Santana's gf and I want to know how Demi feels about this.
Naya was as well.
ok but some things are taken out of proportion. glee was a satire comedy show, every character was a stereotypes that was the whole point of it. finn is the goofy but nice quarterback, rachel is the annoying jewish girl who tries too hard, puck is the bully and bad boy, kurt is the “feminine” gay into broadway and fashion, mercedes is the sassy curvy black woman, quinn is the mean cheerleader who’s perfect, brittany is the dumb blonde.... it was satire. as the show went on, the writers developed the characters and gave them new storylines which made them lose their ironic side and made them more human (santana being a lesbian for example), but at the start the whole point of the show was to be ironic and stereotypical
The way Glee handled sexual assault is the worst. They joke about Tina "vapo-raping" Blaine and always falling for gay men. Sue drugged and took advantage of Figgins to blackmail him. The other guys said Ryder should have been happy his babysitter assaulted him as a kid. Kitty spoke about her sexual assault and they never brought up the trauma she and Ryder went through ever again.
Blaine and Kurt in the parking lot of Scandals?
@@DrGregoryHouseIT shhh the klainers will find you. He was DRUNK!!1! he didnt mean it! they are sOulmatEs!!! smh
Brittany and Santana multiple times make a joke reference to them being roofied.
Thank u for talking about Artie because as I a disabled person myself I would of love to see representation of disabled characters played by actual disabled actors I actually talk about this in one of my papers
On number 8, you could've also mentioned how Finn kissed Emma in season 4. It's so creepy, awkward, and out of place.
he wasn't in high school
There was still a huge age gap though
Sam was 18 tho. He wasn't underage when he took the job at the strip club.
Yes because some people graduate at 18 or even 19. Due to late birthdays or getting held back a year.
@@DANNYTHEFROG123 exactly. He was a junior but he'd gotten held back because he missed a lot of school due to needing to work to help his family.
Sam was just shy of 17 when he worked in the strip club
Clearly they never intended for Shannon to be trans if that decision wasn't made until later in the series.
**Edit** plus maybe they just couldn't find a trans actor that was comfortable playing a female for so long.
I’m certain that plot was just shoehorned in because trans issues were starting to get more attention at the time.
i hate sue's remarks but ngl, i kinda have to laugh out of shock. sometimes the remarks are too bad to laugh, even if it's a shocked kind of laugh, but when she says things like "oh sorry i just realised that you were playing the national anthem of whatever country you're from" to tina and mike, i have to 'laugh' (in a shocked 'did she just say that' kind of way)
sue was so unapologetic I hated her but also loved her. Like other characters also had the same stereotypes as her but at least she was honest and funny about them. And the actor delivery was just the best. And when she called out Will bs >>>>
Glee is on of my favorite shows but let’s be honest THE WHOLE SHOW WOULDNT WOTK IF IT WAS PUT OUT NOW💀
Don't forget about how finn outed Santana and she was almost expelled for slapping him, even though there were Worse things like when kurt got bullied, when zises and Santana had that fight or the glee Club constantly being slushied. (Just realised how many things like that happend)
Also so many things Mr. Schue did should be on the list.
I had to stop watching Glee because i couldn't stand Rachel. She annoyed me to no end. Every scene with her in it just drags the entire show to a grinding irritating halt.
