I just bought a bunch of these to keep around the house and garage so there's always a flashlight handy. They're *fine* for this. Very good, even. And, nice review. Far too many reviewers don't take price into account *at all.* "The XYZ is a joke! The ABC for the same job is twice as bright and way better built!" Well yeah, it's also $60 instead of $20.
I reviewed these a few years ago as well. Last year I took one DIVING and the light stayed on through two tanks of air and was still working when we were done for the day. I DID leak but still worked!
I bought a few of these and they're not bad at all for $1. You definitely get what you pay for. They used to sell similar ones at the Dollar Tree, made by Sunbeam (made from aluminum) and they were good also
Good review. I just noticed these a few days ago at my local Walmart and decided to try one. It's definitely not on the same level as my 4Sevens, my tiny olights or even the $10 Ozark trail lights but so far it seems better than it has any right to be for a $1 light. Plus, it's cheap enough to have multiples stashed around the house and car and if it gets lost or damaged it's no big deal.
CORRECT. It's a great little light *for a dollar.* Get ten and stash them everywhere. You lose one, who cares. Neighbor needs to borrow a flashlight? "Keep it."
I saw on some flashlight online form that this flashlight can also use 18650 rechargable lithium batteries unfortunately I don't have any to test it with but I wonder if it would make the light more powerful?
Interesting you bring it up, I'm considering a video where I test lithium ions in various flashlights that normally take AAAs. It would be a while before that comes out, but in the meantime I can test this light with an 18650
Good and informational review. It's nice to know there's a cheap, but good enough, flashlight available. I agree that this is nice enough to buy a few for house, car, or backpack. Maybe you should make a theme or special time to review cheap flashlights like this along with the more expensive ones.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I'm definitely interested in reviewing some inexpensive lights like this one, and have a few planned for review. I've also planned out a couple of videos focusing on cheaper lights as a whole
@@LuxWad It would be great if you can also check and review alternative options for powering some of those flashlights. Like some flashlights could take a 18650 Li-Ion battery instead of 3x AAA batteries.
@@LuxWad I'd love to see your take on some Convoys. The s2+ is cheap yet configurable with pretty much any LED's you want. 219b, 219c, 519a, cree xpl, Samsung, Osram..
I plan to get to Convoy, the issue is that there are so many options it makes them hard to review, so I want to have a well-planned series of videos when I get to that point
Kind of an odd question, but what are your thoughts on this guy or an Olight i3E (sale freebie but pay the shipping) for a beater light? I'm slowly shopping around for a replacement light for attic crawling (heater pad swaps) as well as poking my nose down our sewer clean outs. I've got the winter i3E coming now to try out on my keys, so I wouldn't be getting it for a beater right now anyways. On a different note, have you checked out Olight's NW and WW emitters? I'm fairly new to higher end lights (and find myself turning into a bit of an Olight fan) so a grain of salt is definitely required here, but when I jumped from my CW i5T to the NW Baton 3 Pro I was shocked at how much better I liked the NW Baton. I suspect you'd still not prefer them as I've heard they are way above BBL, but I'd be interested to hear your opinion. Admittedly I had selfishly been hoping for a Baton 3 Pro review from you before I ordered it 😁 That being said, other than occasionally noticing the yellow, I've very much enjoyed my Baton overall. 🤷🏻♂️
I would recommend this light because it's much easier to get ahold of, it has a longer runtime, and a much throwier beam. The free olight is very nice but it's too small to be a main use flashlight. I haven't tried their NW emitters yet, I've been wanting to but haven't had the time yet. I was particularly interested in the Baton 3 Pro but I didn't have time to review it - maybe in the future, I am going to do a couple videos rounding up several Olights
@@LuxWad All good points, thank you! I can see where the throw could be more useful in the end. In my opinion your work is amazingly well done. I'm sure whatever (and whenever) you come out with will be appreciated by all😀 I hope you have a Merry Christmas!🎄
I buy about 10 of these flashlights per year. They are perfect for Boy Scouts who lose their flashlights on the second day of a one week camp. I also use them for the same thing at a church camp I work at. I have found that this version and it’s multiple led predecessor last long enough for that. A drop on a hard surface is usually Tolerated with its cheap design. A good thing for a one dollar flashlight is that it’s easily replaced.
I remember going through a few of these myself when I was a boy scout, they certainly got the job done. I was always surprised at how durable they were too
Why do these things keep constantly dimming. I DON'T mean batteries wearing down. They will just suddenly go from bright to dim. A sharp whack against the desk instantly makes it very bright again, but then 20 seconds later it dims. Whack it again and it's bright again. I've had about 10 so far and they all do it. What specifically is happening inside?
I bought one for my 5yo nephew so he'd leave mine alone. he left it on constantly despite my warnings. that little light lasted way longer than 4 hours and took a lot of abuse
Damn you must of got a defective light! Mine last 9 hrs 50 lumens, then it starts to drop off at 10 hrs..... Heres my trick. Change out the batteries! The ones that it comes with is garbage.
I hope you don't mind the generic review video music I used here, I think it adds a bit more interest to the video but let me know what you think

Thank you for this review. It gives us good prospective on why we buy we the lights we do. Same goes for the LEDs on the iPhone video.

The led used is a clone of the original luxeon 1 watt LED from the early 00's
What's changed it this flashlight from the old one?
Good review.

Once I use up the included batteries always just toss that little carrier in a drawer in case I need it and switch to an 18650
It is now $3.26 for this exact flashlight at Walmart
That's lame. It's still great at that price though
1.88 at my walmart

Did you measure CRI? Those blue cheap diods often reach 75-85 ,outperforming common XHP50.2, 70.2. etc
I did not meaure CRI on this light, thanks for letting me know though, I'll have to look into it!

Haha that would do it, I didn't really experiment with different batteries so that's my bad there.
When the batts die in these, it's cheaper to buy another flashlight rather than a pack of AAAs. Lol.
I have two of these. They're good enough
For a buck these aren't bad
