Much better, agreed! Credit where it's due to the 2017 Battlefront II, like I said in the video, that game is fun to play today. But even then, the original Battlefront II is still better, agreed.
One of the enjoyments I found in this game was…role playing, limited though it was. Example: I inserted a chain of battles behind a certain logic. I started with space battles, then inserted the Death Star map or the Tantive IV map (to simulate the conquest of the enemy ship), and then inserted a planetary battle, thus creating the illusion of proceeding from space to enemy strongholds. A small flaw that I have always underlined is that at least in the PS2 version that I owned I couldn't command the soldiers around me: it was very cool in Battlefront I to take a team that followed you to take the opposing command posts or surround the enemies.
I really enjoy XL battles. It's best on Hoth because of how open it is and both sides' access to vehicles to mow down hordes of enemies. If only there were XL on the BF1 Geonosis.
Personally, I prefer the AI and graphics in the 2004 Battlefront more than the 2005 Battlefront. I also like some of the maps better, such as Rhen Var, which doesn't appear in Battlefront 2. But one thing Battlefront 2 got right was space battles!
One neat thing about the game on Xbox is that it actually got exclusive DLC which added back 4 of 2004’s maps, being Bespin city, Yavin arena, and both Rhen Var maps!
Unpopular opinion perhaps but I prefer the first game. Stuff like the AI being worse, more bugs, the awards system forcing the weapons on you permanently with enough playtime rather than you being able to choose to accept it means you have to constantly make new profiles to avoid being OP which I dont like. The visuals also look weirdly... worse? I love the enhanced campaign and movement options, and the way you unlock classes but heroes being invincible for some stupid reason aside I feel like the first game has much better balance.
Nice retrospective, brought back a lot of good memories. I was blown away when the game came out and then a second time when I discovered mods like the Conversion pack and Battlefront Extreme. But I noticed you've disabled friendly fire, seeing a detpack explode in your face and do no damage to you is kinda immersion breaking.
23:07 100%, this is the gameplay I remember best from this game. I _loved_ space battles, particularly on the map you're showing here but I don't immediately remember the name of. At the age I played SW:BF2, I'd honestly seen the prequels way more than the first three films. This & the last Battlefront game gave me such a greater appreciation for the lore than I had previously. Before I watched the first three films all the way through, it was the Battlefront games, SWTOR, and Wookiepedia that taught me most of what I knew about Star Wars. And I'm kind of a lore hog, even then, so those were instrumental to my development as a nerd, even if they all referred to different time periods in the cannon 😂 I'm not even a huge combat/flight sim guy, but I vividly remember this being one of the first opportunities I got to fly space ships in a video game. I mean, to the best of my knowledge, my main flight sim experience before this was probably Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002? Maybe even 2000 or 98. I know it was with a PS/2 port joystick. 🙃 I wish I could speak more comfortably on what the online experience was like. But not only was I quite young to be playing on Xbox Live, but Xbox Live was itself fairly young. It's hard to judge the online experience looking back from today.
For GC, personally, I avoid buying any fleets. You win more money from land battles than space battles. As far as the ai’s inclination to attack Naboo, I’ll take Naboo any day over dagobah. F that map, it’s always a battle down to the man on that map.

on a side note, Galactic Concuest is my favorite mode too. my one pet peev is you cant attack the death star if you play as the rebelion.
That would've been cool! Maybe have the Empire's home planet be the Death Star in that case.

Played that game for years when I was younger but I never knew you could lock onto veichles with the assault class :D
