put some hours into this one.. I've had MF DOOM on repeat since middle school so i hope we did the man some justice in our homage to the legend...
if you liked what you heard please download the suite for free on our bandcamp or buy some dope merch to support (links in description)..
love y'all madly hope you enjoy!! - seb
Hell yeah! I only found out about DOOM a couple years ago (hip-hop's fine but not a deep interest). That guy was a real genius. Glad you found inspiration! Exceptional groove beginning at 3:51.
Thank you, gents! If the Big Names of jazz don't know your names, then shame on them.
love this a lot, notably the vibe out part. i just began playing bass a couple months ago and man i dream of getting skills like you. i'll keep practicing, you're an inspiration!
You lot killed it!! From the the first note to the last. Well done!
@@stevencooper3202 im planning to do it eventually, ive been watching Adam Neely on repeat for a few years now but i really gotta start to learn the basics cuz i dont understand anything haha
did some justice for sure . thank you. this is beautiful
Every time with you cats, I feel like I'm watching history. But really, it's the future, and I'm overjoyed to be here to witness it.
RIP DOOM, forever missed.
youre too kind..
I have that exact same feeling every time I watch these gents perform. Lightening in a bottle with these dudes. Glad I'm here at this point in time to enjoy. Can't wait to catch them live.
@@newjazzundergroundYou guys should be at Blue Note Napa fr
That staccato piano sound at the end of meatgrinder was villainous.
Absolutely amazing stuff
DOOM .. much love bro
@@newjazzunderground Love what you guys are doing it reminds me why I play music.
This is insanely good, that one part of meat grinder is the closest thing I've heard to a Coltrane piece come out of modern jazz. Fucking fantastic!
thanksss
Coltrane!!!
John Coltrane on Sax, Art Blakely on drums, Mycoy Tyner on piano, and Ron Carter on Bass. Who doesnt believe in reincarnation?
Yeah bros killing it!! DOOM is smiling down upon you
DOOM*
ALL CAPS!
up
@@RSGiraffe whys that
🙏🙏🙌✨
Straight ahead jazz. No gimmicks. No BS. Love you guys!
that tribe bassline over ALL CAPS goes craaaaazy lmao
The original bassline is from Red Clay by Fredie Hubbard
@@Meatiecheeksboy tribe samples jack wilkins' version of red clay on midnight marauders
I laughed with pure joy when I heard what you guys did with One Beer -- I absolutely love it and this whole project! Playing All Caps over the Red Clay bass line was a brilliant idea too. I tip my hat to you guys, and if I had a metal mask, I'd tip that too.
Glad you enjoyed it! we gotta get our melodious thunk on
The One Beer rendition is crazy good!
Genuinely shoutout to all of yall. This is high level musicianship, especially loved TJ's solo.
agreed
meat grinder sounds so spooky in 5/4, incredible tribute guys
you heard it .. props to wynton uptown ruler
dude i didnt even realize it was in 5/4 because of the bass groove thats sick
Wow i didnt even catch that!
This is the absolute best fathers day gift I could be asked for.
beautiful to see young talents with the chops playing music that is often not praised enough.
those keys are genius and beautifully complement the saxophone
Daaaamn. God, I can't wait for y'all to cut an album. I had stank face at least 5 times. This gave me the feels. Goosebumps. Keep it up NJU
oh yeah we coming with it
From headspin to boogaloo...the beat is so butter...thank you so much for the music ❤
Thanks for listening
I've never clicked on a video so fast istg. Two of the artists I love mixed into one beautiful suite, I love y'all for this
You boys doing the Lord's work
this entire set was an EXPERIENCE. I'm not very well versed with Jazz composition in general, but I deep enough into my own musicality to appreciate the sheer amount of talent and love that something like this must have taken. Each one of you are geniuses in your own right, and as I listen to this for the 12th? time today, I can only hope that there is more in store for all of you. Just pure excellence on display here.
Yooooo what did the world do to deserve this absolute masterpiece????? Also ALL CAPS and Red Clay was absolutely genius
Record this suite and send it to vinyl and Im buying it.
Legendary, inspiring, classy. DOOM forever. That transition into Red Clay with the piano solo was face melting.
red clay is an all time standard and this performance is putting all caps into that same library
Holy shit boys, this goes HARD. I love how your sound has come together over time, but this feels landmark. This is beautiful stuff. Get as many ears as you can on this.
I know I hear Coltrane in this, and I’m gonna have to check out MF DOOM now. There’s others in there too, but I think that’s y’all’s own voices coming through. Y’all are on the right path.
As a big fan of jazz, soul, funk, and the supervillain, this absolutely made my day! Hats off to you!
Woke up this morning not knowing I would be lucky enough to hear my favorite group cover my favorite villain.
the most evil
this goes absolutely bonkers from the 1st second love what y’all do!
much luv
really nice, start to finish. in all honesty, I haven't watched too many of your older vids that have been suggested to me w/ clickbaity titles, but this one looked straight to the point and watched it right away. not meant as a drag in any way, yall are clearly very talented and growing your audience in the current digital landscape. but just my two cents. old man (29) yells at cloud moment
I heard an interview once Doom said he only ever listens to Jazz and never hip hop you can really tell that eith his flow and his cadence the way he randomly dips in and out and jumps around the track very free like a jazz player
I absolutely love DOOM and jazz, and your group did a masterful job putting the two together to make an incredible suite. I loved how your solos flowed in and out of the melodies any DOOM fan would recognize. Keep up the great work!!
I FUCKING LOVED THE MODIFIED PIANO PARTS OF THIS!!! EVERYTHING ELSE WAS INCREDIBLE AS ALWAYS TOO!!!!
its beautiful to see the themes, melodies, and progressions of DOOM in the genre of music that feels the most fluid and dynamic. Jazz has been and always will be my favorite form of expression and my favorite genre of music. yall seriously outdid yourselves
disgustingly tasteful and INSANE my brain melted ... bravo!!!
"Disgustingly tasteful" shouldn't make sense, but it does lol. Wtf
i CANNOT believe y'all really got ELEW to sit in that's dope also good job making the recent past (MF's rap) into something classical (jazz suite) while still bringing it into the future (YOU!)
ALSO shirt of the year award goes to Abdias
thanks for the kind words thats love
Just realized the pianist is playing the bassline from Red Clay, so fkn dope man
When I started watching Adult Swim I had no idea how much they promoted underground music. I slowly learned more about MF Doom (And other artists) and came to realize how amazing his work is. Glad to see people today still honoring his amazing music.
"Meat Grinder" is so fantastically well done. Grimey, off-kilter, irresistibly catchy.
Exactly how Vik would've wanted it.
It's beautiful to see Madlib and DOOM in this setting. Long live New Jazz Underground
I'll see yall on tour when the band blows up😎
we coming
You know the music is gonna be absolute banger if the entire room is full of dudes playing in casual dad shirts and shorts.
Dude, I can't even say how happy it makes me to see cats like you keeping straight-ahead combo playing fresh. There's nothing wrong with trying to perfect the style of Coltrane at cocktail lounges so you can earn the right to vibe check people, but that's not going to move the genre forward to renewed relevance. Stuff like this IS.
Abdias killing it on One Beer, keep up the great work everyone!
I don't usually comment on the web, but this is my favourite MF DOOM instrumental tribute. The arrangements are so refreshing and kept me interested all along. You really made it your thing!
Thanks so much !!
You all never cease to blow my mind. So tight and on the same page with a respect for the music that is palpable. As an amateur bassist I am awed by Sebastian Rios's skill and tone. Love everything the group does. Thank you for keeping jazz alive!
damn boys. Every time you drop something I'm blown away. KEEP IT UP!!!
damn thats love .. thanks my guy
red clay is probably one of my favorite jazz baselines oat to play. respect for the bass player that’s tricky for me to play on the upright bass 🔥🔥🔥
Insane tribute to one of the best lyricist ever .
greatest for sure
I listened to the album on Bandcamp today. Fantastic.
thats the good shit,
this is what i wanted for a few years and i never found it
it feels weird when youtube sometimes recommends me exactly what i wanna find
This is absolutely amazing!!!
I don't know why, but for me you guys seem like the reincarnation of jazz. Coltrane's vibes with modern souce!
Great!
How does Sebastian move on the bass like that?!?!
so glad i got recommended this, jazz and MF DOOM are two of my favourite things
y'all are so damn good. old school technique and new school noise is a dangerous combination
I love that these sort of represent a journey that music goes through. They started off as jazz tracks which were sampled by DOOM, and then reinterpreted by you guys. So cool.
the motif to tribe during ALL CAPS got me laughing so hard, love it!
Yeah. I need this on vinyl-cd-streaming-concert-tiny desk-bonaroo-newport jazz festival-first concert in space-presidential inauguration-birthday party-barmitzvah-prom-candlelit concert experience
This music is being brought into the future by your very hands, and with such a vigorous force of LIFE. Doom is forever but his music is so beautifully expanded by the acute vision of your ears
thank you so much
played this music on my college radio show tonight... big hit! hope to be able to see you guys live soon :) what you are doing is so incredible to listen to
I feel like this is lind of a madlib suite because mad produced the first 3 tracks featured in this
Had tears in my eyes the whole way through. Banger job guys, imma have to cop this suite and check everything else you got on bandcamp. So excited to follow your careers moving forward.
See yall in ten years when we find this in our recommended's and nostalgia will hit 🙏
(Yall killed it, can almost imagine DOOM smiling while hearing this)
You all are becoming better and better. More and more amazing and thrilling. Thanks a lot for the joy and happiness you give me...
You are so kind
this is fuckin genius, you guys should have a LOT more than this
Incredible love how you captured the energy and improvisational side of jazz in these covers. MF DOOM was one of the few that took that art of rhyming to the jazz level and this is a truly great homage. Amazing work hope to see this live 1 day. As a learning pianist I was blown away by that solo.
so incredibly fantastic. You guys are the only modern jazz musicians I listen to. You do honor to the origins while still bringing in new ideas- I love it !
Using the metal fingered one (and loopdigga) for bringing the kids back home to the raw essence. Like the work of a good dj
This is eclectic HOB-SNOBBERY of HIP hOP - JAZZ MUZIC @ it's BEST MAN...4SHO!
watching you cats grow has been inspiring to me as an inexperienced musician. and this just might be one of the best things ive heard in a long while. yall deserve every ounce of praise and more! thank you for what you do
So glad i watched this video and found yalls channel. Too good!!!!
I was getting kind of sick of the stuff i was listening to so this came at the perfect time
Bro the bassline from such a neighbor being used in all caps is fucking crazy
Great job, love the short reprise of all caps at the very end in the piano
I'm gonna NEED this put into a chart man, this is sweet!
Love all your guys' music, and your merch is amazing. keep it up!
i fucking love jazz tributes to hip hop its my favorite thing
Doom used to come down to our Jazz night (Jazzrefreshed) regularly!! He would have lovedddd this!!
Yes, yes, yes. Brothers are tight. Great sounds from the 60s almost. Plan to see them when I go to NYC. Bravo!!
actual masterpiece i love this
This is unbelievable. Best thing I've seen/heard all year
Chills. Thank y’all for the great work, what a tribute.
Seriously amazing work, you guys are fantastic!
Good as hell! Thanks for making this!
I never knew I loved jazz so much. You guys have genuinely inspired me, thank you for properly introducing me to a new genre.
Only reason I'll always respect the UA-cam algorithm a bit more than all the other social sites atm, brings some real gems around to people like me. Keep it up!
I know nothing about mf doom, but i do like jazz. So wandering in hearing it fresh without context is pretty cool.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! love your guys' work, can't wait for more!!
something about the way yall performed accordion absolutely caught me
hold up, let me pick up my jaw off the floor. this is so good.
beautiful, truly
brings a lot of passion while being cohesive
nothing less of art
This is incredible and I'm not sure why it's not viral, yall are so talented holy shit
idk how ive got here since I don’t think I’ve seriously listened to jazz before but this was incredible
and not one person in the comments didnt put the mans name in all caps, he'd be so happy to hear this. rip DOOM i miss you every day
If this alone doesn't make you guys famous I'm just sorry don't know what to say. This is top tier shit should be played at the Lincoln Center or wherever the bougie place is these days.
Sebastian absolutely killin' it on the bass for that fast paced Red Clay bassline.
ive listened to this 6 times now! many more to come
seriously you guys have closed off my day perfectly this is such a spirited homage. love it as always
I've just been nerding out this entire time over the comping of the pianist. truly amazing
This video is just wonderful, and this Bass lines makes me appreciate even more the Domi performance of this song in her Keyboard with pedals
This was fire been working on transcriptions and just started transcribing one beer and all caps and those piano voicings got my brain thinking but I never get tired of listening.
Incredible. Got this on repeat
I wish I was talented enough to pull off a mash up like this. My favorite jazz album + favorite rap album idk how ya’ll read my mind but thank you.
absolutely incredible
