Unfortunately, since posting this video Switzerland has announced that it was joining in with NATO in sanctioning Russia due to the Russia Ukraine war. Thus their 200 years of neutrality has ended in many peoples eyes, much to the swiss residents dismay. Therefore, I no longer think Switzerland is the best place to go if WW3 starts. New Zealand is probably the best bet. See this video more as a history of Swiss military tactics as unfortunately the point of the video is now largely lost.

sanctioning russia is the neutral position though. A referee is neutral too, but has to punish players if they commit a foul with a yellow or red. Russia has broken international law and thus has to be punished. Not sanctioning russia is not a neutral stance but a pro-russian stance. We're still 100% neutral, no matter what russian or american propaganda is telling others. The more interresting question would be if we should allow for our weapons to be exported to ukraine since it would be the right thing to do morally, but harder to combine with our neutrality.
@@severinvilliger1950 The rules nato follows are not neutral in the sence for the russians, but the un is because both nations obide it, both are equal. So essentially a country following nato is still piggybacking another country. The thing you are trying to say is that punishing russia is neutral, but do russians also think it is? The main thing the swiss was going for neutrality is that they do not believe in any rules. They are their own rule, hence they avoided any unions for a long time. But if they do follow one set of rules, another set would find it a threat. Thus breaking neutrality.

One issue with this strategy is that it might incentivise anyone attempting to invade the country to completely obliterate anything they find in their way. If any little thing could be a trap, might as well make sure.

Sadly a lot of the information in this video is old and we've gotten rid of a lot of the defensive measures in the last couple of years/decades, but there actually IS enough food stored in underground depots to feed the whole of switzerland for months.

I'm swiss and I didn't know we were the only country that provides shelter for everybody in case of a nuclear war. It's kinda paranoid of us to be so prepared but at the same time, why wouldn't a country try to protect its whole population in case of danger ? As someone very scared of nuclear war, I am now a bit more reassured that I live here
my town here in germany is actually in the lucky spot where we do have a nuclear bunker. it is able to house about 80 people for a longer duration, and probably maybe 200 if you just used it for people storage. that all for a population of 20000. its the only bunker of its kind i am aware of in the region.
