Le La Les (L') - French Definite Articles // French Grammar Course // Lesson 6 🇫🇷
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лип 2024
- When to use LE LA LES (l') in French. The French definite articles all mean THE in English, but we don't always use them the same way. In French, we always add an article in front of the noun, and Le La Les are no exception to the rule. We use them with:
- Abstract nouns
- Concrete nouns in a general way
- Languages and school subjects
- Continents, countries, and provinces
- Metrics
- Date and days of the week
- Body parts
- Parler le
In front of H, le and la will change to l' when followed by a word starting with a silent h (h muet). It will stay le and la in front of a word starting with aspirated H (h aspiré).

I have just started learning the French language and this is by far the best and simplest technique I have come across to differentiate between the masculine and the feminine words/objects. Thank you Dylane, I'm happy that I have found you... merci beaucoup.... salut.... á bientot :)

Thank you so much your channel has helped me a lot in upgrading my French
My pleasure :)
Great lesson as always 🙏🏻 merci beaucoup 😁
For the H muet and H aspiré is there a rule to know which is which or is it something that we just need to learn as we go?
sometimes words from other languages use H aspiré😁
Yes you "just" need to know them by heart :/ Just remember the ones that you are most likely to use :)
your lessons are so helpful merci dylane😁😁
Glad you like them!
Mille merci, Dylane!
De rien :)
Thanks
merci beaucoup
10:07 Ha ha. You have made the "h" muet in english too. La haie in english is hedge, not edge! Maybe when you are reading this word to yourself you pronounce it as 'edge with a french accent ? Anyhow, this is a really lovely accessible course, well constructed and well presented. I am using it to refresh and deepen my knowledge of french grammar, which I last did at school, a long time ago. You succeed in making it more interesting and at the same time less stressful too, thanks
I do that a lot 😅 I swear I make fewer mistakes off camera 😆
I am glad you are enjoying the lessons Jonathan :)
I referred your site to an american guy who was sounding like a crow when speaking french, but he was very eager to learn french. I told him that he can't go wrong with you. :)
Thank you so much, that is so sweet 🤩
Splendid lesson🥰
Thank you! 😃
អ្នកគ្រូស្អាត
Thanks dylane.
You are welcome :)
Thanks as always.👍👍🙏 I went back to review Pronounciation course #39. You did mention that no way of knowing just by looking at a word is an h muet or an h aspiré. I am courious if the native French speakers can guess it out for words by instinct?
We know them without thinking. If you ask me out of the blue if this is an H aspiré ou muet, it will take me a few seconds to think about it ;)
Hi Dylane, what is the order in which I should learn French? Which book should I buy first? I thought there were free pdf books?
👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Dylane, is there a way to tell whether H is silent or aspirated? Or just a matter of memorising the words? Many thanks
Lots of memorizing Andrea, but usually I recommend knowing the ones you use. Some of them are rarely used in daily conversation. I hope it helps :)
Hi I am first to comment by the way good morning and the video is nice .
Edit : oh my god 1 heart thank you so much ❤❤❤
Good morning 🤩
if you edit the comment the heart goes away
I just bought the book for this course as well as the conjugation one. Should I be doing lessons from both daily? Or should I complete this course and then move on to the conjugation course? merci bc
I usually advice starting with grammar. You will see, in the grammar course, you have some review about conjugation. Whenever you see a review, do the chapter in the conjugation course :)
Salut. Je m'appelle Gibelly Montilla.
Je suis étudiante. Actualmente estudio francés e inglés al mismo tiempo 😅😂 así que ver explicaciones en inglés de algo de francés me ayuda muchísimo...
Salut Gibelly :)
💛
❤
You're very beautiful, Oui, the video is very helpful! 😊
does "les sciences sont importantes" mean "sciences are important" or "science is important"? Thanks
Quickly please. How do you know if an H muet or aspire?
Unfortunately you have to know it by heart :/
Easy like a cooky
How to know whether a word/noun is masculine or feminine?
You have to know the gender by heart :)
So in learning French right and the teacher wants me to do exercises with le, la, l' but I don't really know how to translate most of the words ...
Use google translate, it's very accurate :)
Question:
The french language has a queen what is her name?
Answer :
Dylan
Rania you always make my morning better with your comments 🤩❤️
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane thankyou very much 🌷🌷🌷🤲🏻🤲🏻🤲🏻
Had to pause here. A lot of us English speakers would say "je brosse mes cheveux". Es ce que c'est correct ?
No because in French we use reflexive verbs: se brosser = "Je me brosse les cheveux" - The ME already refers to ourselves so adding MES would result in a double possessive. I know this one is very confusing 😅
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane it is. I tend to DIRECTLY translate I'm brushing my teeth to je brosse mes dents😂😂😂 thanks for the lesson
Dear teacher to be honest indefinite and definite articles are still confusing me.
We use le la les on specified or know objects or anything else and un and une on non specified objects,
But let's take an example from the video on word ecole (School) ,
We used definite article how can you know that school is specified ?
Like there man different schools,
As there are many different boys when you used un garçon in past examples on indefinite articles,
Please help me it's really challenging me
😍😍😍😘
Bonjour Jasmin ❤️
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane merci for giving us new info....😘😘😘😘😍 😍😍😍😍
Cest Smedi soir, mon petite amie dans une ambience tres romantique. Elle me demande qu'est- ce que tu veux regarder a la tele.
I wanted to say 'something good'. But i ended up saying 'les-bien'.
Maintenant a la fois le francais et ma relationship est casse😢
how to know whether h is silent or not?
The only way is to study by heart 😕 No need to study them all, just study what you will use. Unless you have an exam, then yes, you will have to study the list 😅
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane yes, am planning for the exam. I would like to know which one I have to start first, is it grammar or any other?
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane I bought a grammar and conjugation book, need to buy vocabulary too but am confused that how to study accordingly. kindly help me to get an idea
L, when the word start with vowel
Correct :)
So if I've understood correctly, it will be:
"Is she working this Monday?"
"Of course! She works every Monday"
Yes you got it :D
Is 'il parle le français' wrong? I wrote that but in the answer key, there was only 'il parle français'
Not technically wrong but we only use it without the article :)
i found ur so innocent ☺
Madame, please explain
During,
Il s'est cassé le bras
and you said
Il s'est cassé son bras (doesn't work) why not to use , any rule or something ?
please help.
Because it's a double possessive then ;)
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Ok madam, I got it
Merci 🌹🌹
I would like to know why you don't say Tu parles l'espagnol?
Just one of those rules ;)
Bonsoir Madame.
Some words end's in E, but shown that are as Masculine. Can I know why ?
It's in the lesson 3 "French Gender of Nouns" :)
Dylane: "that rule works 90% of the time and as usual in French the 10% is obviously what we use the most"😁
Anu replied perfectly :)
@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
Merci Madame.
Ma'am can you send lecon 5 please of c'est nöel
I am sorry I don't send the PDF since it's in the book
Still don’t understand the difference between definite and definite and I watched both video. 😢
It's ok, if there is something you don't understand just move on, you will understand it later ;)
Great idea thanks
Why are you not putting le or l' before espagnole?
Tu parles espagnole.
Because it’s not necessary with parler :)
je brosse mes perruques. lol
🤣
It would be nice if she spoke better English.
