I always found that collecting action figures makes my home look too cluttered. That also goes for the small statues that come in video game collector’s editions. I stopped buying them years ago unless it’s a CE that has a huge statue. Now, I just spend my money on higher end statues and always make sure I have a spot for it before I purchase it. I’d rather have 1 nice statue displayed rather than having a shelf full of action figures that you can’t see the ones in the back and look all cluttered.
That's honestly not a bad way of going about it. As I reevaluate my collecting, I've thought about doing something similar. Instead of buying a lot of lesser expensive things, maybe focus on a few more expensive items.
This is a subject ive been wrestling with for a few months now. I still have my collection but ive slowed down dramatically. Im a Father of three and the hobby is getting too expensive for one and honestly im just not having a good time with it anymore. I use my figures for storytelling and stop motion videos. So i actually use my collection as props or characters in a story rather then just pose them and leave them. I do still love customizing, kitbashing with them and some i just live as they are but i just dont have the urge to buy anymore. I used to keep up with all the news, whats coming out, when, how much, where can i get it but ive slowly stopped paying attention. Less temptation I guess lol. I just found your channel and subbed once i heard your level headed and honest opinion. Hope your well my dude and look forward to see more of your content. I have a channel myself if your interested to see what ive been rambling about. Take care
The stop motion is awesome and a great way to use your collection. My teenager takes a digital art class and has made some cool WWE stop motion films. I do not have the patients for that. Whenever I'm just taking posed photos I get frustrated from just one pose not working right, I can't imagine my frustration doing that over and over again with only slight tweaks. I've always thought stop motion was cool but knew at an early age I could never do that. My collection was slowing last winter but peaked back up when I did a few kit bashes and customs which reawakened the passion but customs take time and sadly I didn't have a ton of it so that also slowed. I think my collecting when it comes to figures going forward will be a few cool select pieces here and there, which will probably be the occasional preorder. No more going to the toy section when my wife is shopping at Target, lol. Thanks for the view and comment and I'll check out your channel as well!
Collecting action figures or statues is one of the most frustrating hobbies. Depending on what you're after, you either spend "x" amounts of dollars upfront in dead money waiting for the preorder to be released, or you wait and run the risk of a figure selling out...leaving you at the mercy of aftermarket prices. Then you have lines that are started by companies and are left unfinished or take forever between releases. For example, Jada Toys is the first company that's actually going to release every character from the original Street Fighter 2...a minor miracle. Meanwhile, if you invested in Storm Collectibles' Street Fighter line, you've been waiting for over 7 years and they are nowhere near finished.
I feel you on that. Super7 is great example of preordering something and waiting forever to get it in your hands, and unfinished lines Super7 with their Simpsons line is right there. It can definitely be a frustrating hobby, especially with the absence of Toys R Us in the States distribution can be a mess with exclusives for Walmart and Target. Nothing more frustrating than preordering an exclusive and having it cancelled on you months later. With Storm Collectibles' SF line, it just feels like the import lines take their sweet time completing series, Mafex with their Hush Batman line, SH with all of their lines, it just feels like they only want to do one or two figs from a series at a time.
I’ve been collecting figures for years but only from certain franchises. I only pick up stuff I really like and I only do it if there’s a good sale, or if I can buy it second hand but unopened. So even if I have collected for years, my collection is very humble. Someone who recently started collecting a few weeks ago probably has a bigger collection than me. I really like my collection though, They don’t do much, they’re just there but knowing they’re there and are mine gives me a sense of satisfaction and happiness. Silly, nerdy or not, I think that’s a fine reason to collect. If it gives you happiness, it’s fine. We all do silly hobbies which gives us happiness. Sports, shoes, animals, plants etc. As long as it doesn’t go overboard and becomes an addiction or a detriment on your life, it’s fine and I’ll never judge someone for it.
Snailman your comment is a perfect encapsulation of what collecting should be. Collect how you want and as long as it makes you happy that's perfect. Sometimes we get caught up in "gotta collect'em all" but a modest collection of what you like is perfect!
in the exact same boat mate. my collection was getting out of control and I was just collecting for the sake of it. Now i'm selling a load of it off and it feels good... and makes you appreciate the best bits about your collection more.
My trip to Japan last April fueled me to collect anime figures. It feeds my inner soul, the joy and thrill of hunting relaxes me from the stresses of life. Downside is the wallet getting a bit empty although most of my purchases are not expensive and the space in the room. I might need to control myself really.😅
I feel you on that. My first trip to Japan got me so into Gunpla, and then my last trip, last summer it got me into SH Figuarts and Mafex figures. I remember when the SH Indiana Jones was announced, I was like that's cool but I'll stick with my Hasbro. When I saw that figure on display at the Tamashi store in Akihabra I couldn't resist and bought it. It was just too nice.
@@Nintendad64 We went to Akihabara with my goal of getting the forgotten PS Vita pre-owned which is my main trophy on the trip and I never looked at any anime figures at Trader and back home I realized I missed big-time of not getting it. Since then I ordered from cheap online sellers, got Ichiban Kujis Mini Fighuart, Chibis, waifus, pop up parade etc. I even have a dozen figures still mint sealed inside their box. Crazy.
Check out Suruga-ya.com, they are a second hand store in Japan who does free shipping to the US. I've picked up some cool games and figures from them for pretty low prices. I've done a few unboxings on the channel.
I never understood collecting just to have them standing there. It's fun to play with them and make lil stories out of them with friends. I'm an adult man in his 30's and not ashamed to say I still do this, it's great practice for acting, voice acting and working on your improvisation skills.
That's actually pretty awesome, I play wrestling figs with my son and have a ball. My collection I used to take them out and pose them for some really cool photos, but sadly I don't have the time to do that anymore, but have been meaning to start doing that again.
That's why I collect almost exclusively. I make storylines with my figures. I view them more so as characters or props for story telling through pictures or stop motion. Hope your both well 🙏
I officially started collecting at the start of 2020 and my pov is that these are pieces of art in a sense (really because that's when I started noticing that the technology behind these figures is getting really good for 1/12 and 1/10 scale) I mostly stick to star wars black series, dc mcfarlane, and the occassional import here and there... but I find myself slowing down also being a quality over quantity kind of person + space issues
2020 was a heck of a time to start collecting. With Covid and all the shortages in was difficult to track down figures. I completely agree with you about the technology improving, just looking at a few of my figs from the early 2010's compared to today's figures of the same line it's almost like night and day. My main line is WWE, but I have a few Black Series, Legends, and some Batman family figs from McFarlane. I also have some nice imports I've picked up on my travels to Japan. I really like the Mafex figs.
@Nintendad64 The CT copies of Mafex are pretty indistinguishable from the originals, and less than a third of the price.I don't mind knock-offs of the expensive stuff.Still gonna buy black series. Too many good releases coming up.But space is the issue.
I’m to the point where I’m trying to focus on nicer/larger pieces and getting proper displays. Helps the collection not just look like a pile of plastic.
Taking a break from collecting really makes you realize what you really need in the collection. Especially after getting rid or putting some stuff away. You realize that some models are just much better when there’s less models to compare it to. And the impulse for buying anything for the sake of collecting dies out. But now you’ll have a better idea of what you really want for the collection. I stopped buying kamen rider, sh anime figures, and humanoid figures. And stuck with gundams. And now my collection is a bit easier to look at than when you have like 4 different kinds of collections going on. Hell it doesn’t help I collect sneakers too.
I completely agree. The more you consolidate the better it looks. I've narrowed down a good chunk of my collection and I'm thinking about narrowing it some more, I just have to figure out what needs to go.
@ yeah usually that’s the toughest part! I circumvented that by just displaying my harder to find models that have an aura and put away the more mainstream stuff that just blend in with everything.
I've collected for most of my life, never just to get things though, only ever gotten things I like. It's just there's a lot I like. I can see my collecting dropping off a lot within the next two to three years, just because I'll have most everything I want. It's not something I'll miss cause I don't want to start getting things I don't want. I'll just be happy to have everything (at least most everything) I want. It'll be a nice feeling to know I'm good with what I have.
Ever since around 2010 I've been into TF. I'm into G1 so now they are coming out with the SS 86 line and those are what I'm more into. Upsetting that I got now seven optimus primes, Hot Rods, Ultra Magnuses, and they continue to release the same figures but more accurately to the show. Space is usually my kryptonite so I might just give some of my old ones to my nephew.
I had a pretty sizable Transformers collection before I moved. Now I've whittled that down to just core favorites like Optimus (still have my G2 original), Hot Rod, Bumble Bee, Starscream, Megatron, Soundwave, Galvetron, and Grimlock. Every new release of Optimus and Starscream I'm always temped to buy, like the 40th Anniversary Walmart just released. That was in my online cart several times but I didn't buy it because it didn't look enough like the original toy, it was geared too much like the cartoon and since it was the G1 toy style that just threw me off a bit. My toddler plays with a lot of my MOTU, Real Ghostbusters, and OG Transformers when he hangouts out in the game room with me. Since those are my childhood figures I don't mind since I already bashed them when I was a kid and they survived 40 years, so what the heck, right?
I've collected different things my whole life, people say I collect collections. Every collection eventually hits a tipping point for me where it goes from fun to being a burden. When it hits the burden point I sell everything and start collecting something else. It's fun looking back through the years at the different collections but I miss none of it. Before I had kids I collected toys and games after I had kids I started collecting adult things ( cars, guns, knives, alcohol, sports items) and enjoyed helping my kids collect toys and games.
I feel you on this. My first collection were baseball and football cards, then it was comics, then figures, then back to comics, then back to figures, now it's video games. The only regrets I have of selling off collections is that now I have kids, some cool things from my past collections I would have loved to share with them I don't have anymore. I will say, collecting retro games has been rewarding in the fact that I've introduced my teenager and toddler to some games I loved in my youth and seeing them have fun with them is awesome, especially my teenager. Seeing him get joy out of playing NFL2K on the Dreamcast and saying it's better than Madden brings a joy to my cold black heart.
I started collecting anime scale figures and resin statues around 2 years ago and now I’ve a bunch of preorders every month, this month it’s ¥141k ($925) before shipping and over 25% customs charge. So it’s getting expensive now, and I just can’t stop myself, I’m like “oohhh I want that, oohhh I want that too, and that, and that” hahaha.
Man I know that feeling. When I first got back into collecting (ironically I was in Japan) my Big Bad Toy Store Pre-Order page looked like a small shop's invoice. At any given moment there was probably well over $1000 in preorders from various sites. It was getting out of hand.
Great video. I've been mulling over whether to stop collecting. I've sold off a lot but there are moments where I find myself wanting them back lol. Or if I do collect a few that I love, I tend to have that itch of being a completionist. Sigh lol. But thanks for sharing. It helps me think through what to do with my collection as it gets pretty pricey and limited space
Thanks for the view and compliment. Yeah, collecting is one of those things that I go in and out of. I remember in High School and college I had a huge collection and sold off almost all of them when I graduated. Years later I got the itch again when the William Stout Masters of the Universe collection came out, and when my buddy showed me the Toy Galaxy channel. Even though I'm mostly finished with collecting I did pick up Mr. Burns and Hank Scorpio from Super 7's Simpson line with Entertainment Earth's sale. I couldn't resist since those are my two favorite Simpson's character. Luckily that line basically died before the came out with any other favorites of mine so I don't have that urge to be a completionist with.
Why I stopped? Because I got every that I wanted✅️ And it's more break- pause..When I see again what I want, I'm going to buy it. I am very precise and never had impuls buying.I never understood how somebody is buying something just to buy..I have only figures that are exactly what I want from them.
That is a good way to go about the collecting and have the control to say "yep I got everything I want" is admirable. As far as impulse buying I like to think I've been good about it. Mostly collected WWE with a few other 80's properties I liked, but unlike some of my collecting buddies, I hardly ever bought something "because it looked cool" generally speaking my purchases were in the realm of what I was collecting and the few impulses I picked up I generally regretted and sold soon after, but a few were pretty awesome and are still in my collection today this day.
I totally feel you on the expensive part, Mattel and Hasbro figures reaching $25 is rough and yeah I'm with you on nothing really exciting me either. Probably in the last couple of months the only announcements that peaked my interest were the Real Ghostbusters figures from Mondo, but at $100 for a single and $200 for the two pack easily had me passing on this. Though I did order two Super 7 Simpsons figures from Entertainment Earth's sale, picked up Mr. Burns and Hank Scorpio. I've wanted those since they were announced but $55 each was too much, but going on sale I had to get them. What figs do you normally collect?
@@Nintendad64 Normally, its neca tmnt, gi joes or marvel legends. I haven't bought any neca tmnt in months. I might be done with Gi Joe classifieds as well. I've been preordering what i need from marvel legends. But its been hit or miss.
I love the Classified line, I collected the first 3 series and then Cherry picked some of my childhood favorites. As of now they haven't announced anything new that peaks my interest. I used to have a massive Legends collection but before I moved I sold most of them, over the past couple of years I've been tempted by a few but $25 for legends just seems expensive.
I’ve wrestled with this idea a lot with collecting. My collecting was on a very slow burn…just simmering in the background. Then I got divorced in 2018 and retail therapy was the answer lol. It got too big too fast as I was just ordering stuff that I liked rather than I loved. Watching toy galaxys why I sold my collection really helped. I still actively collect today and there are plenty of times I buy stuff still out satisfying the itch. The difference now is I am constantly re-assessing the collection and as new stuff comes in I sell off stuff that’s no longer my focus.
Up until recently that's how my collection was. Constant reassessing and selling off figs as I bought new ones. Now that i's really slowed I've seriously thought about selling the vast majority of it off. Keep some favorites but get rid of most of them.
@ life priorities change. I feel ya. My fiancé had 3 kids prior and we just a baby. So we have a full house. I went from my stuff occupying a 400 square foot loft to now needing to fit it all in a small office. I’ve abandoned and sold off entire collections as I try to focus things to only a couple of lines. Within that I have a list of characters I want in the collection. That list is shrinking considerably and I see my time coming to a close. I like your approach of why own if it you can’t display it. I might eliminate the bins and see what figures I truly want to own. I’m sure I could probably drop 2/3 and not even miss them.
There is a several reason's to stop active collecting: 1. Prices. They are so much high than we got couple of years ago. For example standart deluxe Transformers now cost around $25, voygers $35-45, leaders $50-65, commanders $90-100 and titans $200+ easy. 2. Expensiveness. Throw away $100+ for Mafex X-Man, or Kaido\S.H.Figuarts, or Bandai (you really can eazy spend $250-350 for "standart" Valkyre VF-1) 3. Quality. Prices up, quality low. Mass retail products have a lot of poor and cheap quality. Bad painting. Loose joints. Less accessories. Reusing parts. No unique molds. Etc. 4. Exclusiveness. It's shitty and cashgrab practice. Especially for collectors, who live out of US\Can. 5. Spacing. When it's bigger, the more space it needs. 6. Waiting for, like, many of years to close some of collection's. G1 cast Transformers, or some fighting games like SF\MK\Tekken. Storm Collectibles lose their MK license, so no more MK3 figures, we literally can't gather the whole roster. 7. Frustrating of lost profit. "if I pre-order this figs_name 2 years ago i'ma wouldn't overpay for it now".
Hi Jack, you are absolutely correct on all of this. There are a lot of figures that I just don't feel are worth the price we pay for what we get. And don't get me started on pre-orders, especially when you've preordered something and waited like a year or so just to have the retailer cancel it on you because they didn't get enough. It's a frustrating hobby that lost its luster a bit ago.
It's not fun anymore and it adds to stress that's avoidable. Having said all that I saw Beast Kingdom DC comic figures announced. If anything gets bought it might be those ,if they seem reasonably priced, and QC issues are acceptable.
I completely agree with you. Outside of the stress, very few announcements have excited me. With that said EE had a sale on Super7 figures and I had to grab Mr. Burns and Hank Scorpio from their Simpsons line since those are my two favorite characters. When to a flea mark and swap meet today and not a single fig peaked my interest. Though I did find some cool retro vide games to nab.
If they ever release a wcw line of figures I will collect again. Maybe a New WCW HOF line. Not really trying to collect Disco Inferno or Craig Pittman.
Yeah, I wish some more old WCW guys would sign legends deals. My WCW shelf has a good representation of late 90's WCW guys, would love to add some randos like Alex Wright, La Parka, and others to that shelf.
The youtube algorithm showed me your channel. You have a nice game collection in the background. My collecting slowed down after I got married too. I enjoyed the nostalgia, thrill, and excitement at first when I was single, but it feels empty because I don't play them with friends anymore. I guess my inner child is maturing too. I have a nes, n64, ps1, and snes with just a few game titles for each console. I sort of like the minimalist approach.
Thank you for the view and compliment. I'm right there with about the nostalgia hit I got initially when collecting retro games, especially grabbing some old favorites. What keeps the excitement for me is introducing my teen to some of my favorite N64 and Dreamcast games, but also my toddler will watch us play and he gets so excited watching to N64 games it's heartwarming and comical at the same time. The N64 is the only one I'm going for a complete collection on, something about those carts still hits the feels. But as far as my SNES, NES, GameCube, Dreamcast, Saturn, and PS1, it's just the greatest hits for me. Games I loved in my youth or ones I missed out on and I've also tried to grab.
Last year was my first time collecting. It started when i bought a huge tote full of various figures a lot of motu and gi joe. Then i went crazy and started buying anything that caught ny eye. It got to the point that i ran out of room. So i sold everything and kept only a 12 inch Gladiator Hulk figure. Niw i only buy used 200x motu and anything Native inspired seeing as I'm Apache. Buying used is awesome because i don't fret over opening.😂😂
It's not hard to get carried away when you first start, like some innate reason to "catch up" I guess. I was kind of the same when I first got back into it. It's cool that after running out of room you narrowed your scope. I'm sure that helps on the wallet, lol.
@Nintendad64 it sure does!! It got to the point i was hiding figures from my wife!!😂 One day she asked what i had locked up in my wall locker. I told her i was hiding meth!!😂 Now im honost when I'm going to buy something i let her know.✌️
Dude, I did that for a bit too. Would quickly grab packages off the porch or if I came back from Target with a fig I'd quickly rush it up to the game room.
I quit collecting too. Too much money and not enough space. I will say though that is was fun and i MAY get 1-3 figures a year if that. I mainly collected Neca aliens and predator figures. Some carnage, boba fett, and mythic legions. Easily over 100+figures. A beautiful collection, really.
I feel ya on the space and price. Figures keep going up and my "cost of living" raises from work don't go up nearly as often as they do. I love Neca's figures they are so beautiful if you don't try and pose their brittle joints. I have some Universal Monsters and Back to the Future figs from them. But yeah, I'll probably still pick up a couple figs here and there. Like I just ordered Mr. Burns and Hank Scorpio off of EE since they were on sale and those are my two favorite Simpsons characters, but the days of trolling BBTS and EE for figs or weekly hunts are over. It was a lot of fun though while it lasted.
I just collect what catches my eye, and my eye wanders randomly. This week I've found myself buying Funko Godzilla blind boxes. Never been into Godzilla before but they are great figures for a cheap price. Annoying how they are blind boxes and you don't know which fig you are getting, but it's addicting. Luckily I had the last 6 boxes from my local store, else I would have spent more money!
Blind boxes were a good friend of mine's kryptonite. 2nd and Charles had the Power Ranger ones and he was trying to get a complete set. I remember one day he bought five and got 3 Billy's and two Ritas. He was so pissed, and I laughed so hard that I almost pissed myself. I've only bought 2 blind boxes in my life and luckily got the two figures I was hoping to get. I like how you got pulled in by Godzilla since it was something you weren't into, but that's pretty awesome that you have a new collection.
I have the narcissist Lex Luger I got it signed by Lex and he told me at the time that character came very naturally to him 😂. Great guy one of my favorites I have met.
Probably the next Galaxycon I'm gonna get a Lex figure signed. He was one of my faves back in the day. I have UE Diesel signed by Nash. I gotta say I was a little disappointed in meeting him. He was just kind of surly and didn't seem like he wanted to be there. On a flip side, I've met HBK, Jericho, and a host of other wrestlers who have all been so chill. Good to hear Lex is one those chill one.
What you're feeling is the drag and burn of collecting SO many lines. Guilty of it myself, but try to limit it to 2-4 lines and nothing else. Like I see you just picked up the Super 7 simpsons. While very cool, that line is dead and Jakks is doing $12 Simpsons toys that aren't too bad but dangerous considering how many they can make. Breaking my rule there, but I picked up what they put out so far. Maybe just keep it focused on wrestling, video games and not sure what else, but stuff like the black series, indy, and I think Bond? Those seem a bit out of focus and place and comparison to the giant wrestling belts. Can have stuff like that stored, and just have your main displays be focused.
Thank you for the view and comment, as far as collecting I think you mostly right. before I moved I was definitely feeling the drag of so many lines. I was actively collecting MOTU, Black Series, Marvel Legends, WWE and AEW, Transformers and GI Joe Classifieds. Since selling off a majority of my collection I mainly focused on WWE with the occasion oddity here and there like the Indy figures (my favorite movie series), any Legends or Black Series I still have is a few years old at this point. And well the two Simpsons figures I picked up were only because they're my two favorite characters and were on sale from EE. With my primary focus being just on WWE, and more specifically legends from the 80's and 90's the line just doesn't excite me like it used to. I think this is the first time in years I don't have any active preorders, the thrill of the hunt has just left me. On the flip side with video games being more interactive, as to say if I buy a rare game playing it with my son doesn't decrease the value or investment like say if I bought a rare figure playing with it certainly would. In the end I'll still collect the odd figure here and there, be it wrestling or something else that releases the dopamine in my brain when I hold that little piece of plastic.
Tell me about it. Literally my collection started because Super7 was making the Masters of the Universe movie figures and that's all I was going to buy... famous last words.
@@Nintendad64 LOL , it was the marvel legends bro , gate way figure, once i figure i was spending 90 bucks on a old hob golin figure , i sold all of it and spent more money on cooler brands , hiya toys, neca , dc collectibles , sideshow , hot toys
I don't blame you at all. I've never been a fan of storing figures, if I didn't have room for something new I'd sell off something old. Now I'm just downsizing because collecting figures is just not exciting for me anymore. What lines are you drawn to?
Lol I collect female wrestling figures (boxed only), anime girl figures all the way up to 1/4 scale, Court of the Dead statues (talk about an expensive line), movies (mostly horror), printed vomit bags (unused), and tabletop rpgs and similar board games. On top of all that I also collect war game miniatures which I paint, as well as Goddess Story cards and Garbage Pail Kids cards.
DAMN! That's a lot of collecting going down! Which one is your favorite? Side note, back in the 80s I loved Garbage Pail Kids cards, are they back or are you collecting the old ones?
Probably my board games are my favorite thing, but a couple of my 1/4 scale statues are my absolute favorite pieces that I own. I have old and new GPK cards, I really like the recent set they did spoofing horror and sci fi movies. It has tons of super cool cards.
I understand what you mean I been seriously considering to stop collecting I want to get a few items I want and then stop indenfently the cost of living is one ofvthe reason I am going to stop.
i quit when mattel gone lazy in reusing parts and poor paint apps. price keep going up but the toys getting less accessories and horrible packaging. articulation get worst too. that in 2017.
I can't disagree with that. Prices rise and we seem to get less bang for our buck. I haven't picked up any recent Monday Night Wars figures, but I've heard there has been some QC issues with the legs. Hopefully that gets addressed by them quickly.
I think it's getting more acceptable, but yeah, when other adults here about my collection they are kind of in disbelief. It's like, get over it, these are cool and I like them. Though I will say, I do get the odd look here and there when I talk about video games to other adults. I've always been a "do what makes you happy" kind of person and don't worry about stigmas that come with my hobbies. They make me happy and they don't affect anyone else.
I'm not going to sell everything but I do plan on downsizing quite a bit. Since recording this video I have sold a few figures. After the holidays I'm going to do a big inventory and see what I want to part with.
I hope you're referring to Ewan McGregor and not Sir Alec Guinness, lol. My oldest has said it to me before, he likes to greet me with "Hello there" in a scottish accent whenever I'm wearing a robe.
@@Nintendad64 Like, how many versions of a certain character do we really need, right? Then there's the crossovers of two toy lines, just to keep milking the s*ckers.
TMNT might be the worst of them all at that. We have the Neca line, the playmates line, Loyal Subjects, Super 7, Mezco, then they cross over with MOTU, Transformers and WWE (probably others).

That's honestly not a bad way of going about it. As I reevaluate my collecting, I've thought about doing something similar. Instead of buying a lot of lesser expensive things, maybe focus on a few more expensive items.
One day, when I'm retired, I'm gonna play with my action figures like a 12-year-old kid. #bucketlist
I like that idea! I'll probably do that with whatever is left of my collection when I retire.

100% agree. As I trim down I appreciate my favorites more as well as notice them more.
@@Nintendad64 That's cute, you sound like you're a good father
I do my best.
That's why I collect almost exclusively. I make storylines with my figures. I view them more so as characters or props for story telling through pictures or stop motion. Hope your both well 🙏
Same here. I never liked the idea of buying the figures just to keep them inside their boxes and sell them in the future either.
Love the shout out, I too have cut back on my collecting these days sadly, but still find some cool pieces here and there
yeah, prices are just stupid not just for figs but daily items that we need.
I officially started collecting at the start of 2020 and my pov is that these are pieces of art in a sense (really because that's when I started noticing that the technology behind these figures is getting really good for 1/12 and 1/10 scale)
I mostly stick to star wars black series, dc mcfarlane, and the occassional import here and there... but I find myself slowing down also being a quality over quantity kind of person + space issues
I too main Gijoe classified. McFarlane DC. TMNT, Motu, and recently I've been all in on Transformers. Ugh
I've had to stop paying attention to Toy news just so I don't get tempted.
That right there is a plan I can get behind. That's why I like my detolfs they give a more sophisticated feel than cheap bookcases from walmart.
Subscribed mate. You’re very relatable.
Appreciate man. Thank you so much!
There will be lots of basement, attic, or garage toy stores in some distant future.
agreed
Because I got every that I wanted✅️
And it's more break- pause..When I see again what I want, I'm going to buy it.
I've had to cut back as well. Its getting expensive and nothing really exciting to get me to splurge.
There is a several reason's to stop active collecting:
1. Prices. They are so much high than we got couple of years ago. For example standart deluxe Transformers now cost around $25, voygers $35-45, leaders $50-65, commanders $90-100 and titans $200+ easy.
2. Expensiveness. Throw away $100+ for Mafex X-Man, or Kaido\S.H.Figuarts, or Bandai (you really can eazy spend $250-350 for "standart" Valkyre VF-1)
I always had used toys as a kid buying from the swap meet lol feels good to rip open the new ones now thay im grown up
There's nothing like that dopamine hit when you rip into a new fig for the first time.
@@Nintendad64 haha yup
@@Nintendad64 Awesome, thanks for sharing that. Yeah if had kids it would definitely be enjoyable to share those games with them!
In the end I'll still collect the odd figure here and there, be it wrestling or something else that releases the dopamine in my brain when I hold that little piece of plastic.
one figure turned into hundreds of them
Tell me about it.
I like
My
Collection in box mostly. I do have some loose too.
I used to be an in box collector and I really can't tell you why I started opening them up to display them. I do have a few still in box though.
I still collecting but, I'm downsizing with I can live without and focusing on quality over quantity.
I don't blame you at all. I've never been a fan of storing figures, if I didn't have room for something new I'd sell off something old. Now I'm just downsizing because collecting figures is just not exciting for me anymore. What lines are you drawn to?
@@Nintendad64 I would say some of the Black Series Star Wars and a lot of Anime figures as well.
Now that I know GPKs are back I'll have to look some of the newer ones up online just to see what they look like.
I understand what you mean I been seriously considering to stop collecting I want to get a few items I want and then stop indenfently the cost of living is one ofvthe reason I am going to stop.
I feel ya, everything is just too damned expensive these days, and I love looking at my collection but groceries are more important.
@Nintendad64 so correct family first and always
i didnt know thor collected figures
Ha! I appreciate the comparison 😊
i quit when mattel gone lazy in reusing parts and poor paint apps. price keep going up but the toys getting less accessories and horrible packaging. articulation get worst too. that in 2017.
I can't disagree with that. Prices rise and we seem to get less bang for our buck. I haven't picked up any recent Monday Night Wars figures, but I've heard there has been some QC issues with the legs. Hopefully that gets addressed by them quickly.
Why is it socially acceptable for adults to play video games but not with action figures
But you will sell this?
I'm not going to sell everything but I do plan on downsizing quite a bit. Since recording this video I have sold a few figures. After the holidays I'm going to do a big inventory and see what I want to part with.
You probably get this a lot, but have you ever been told that you look like Obi Wan Kenobi?
I hope you're referring to Ewan McGregor and not Sir Alec Guinness, lol. My oldest has said it to me before, he likes to greet me with "Hello there" in a scottish accent whenever I'm wearing a robe.
@@Nintendad64i was going to say Lando!!😂😂
they just want your money i mean a few ok but......be honest easy to let it take all your money
Definitely true there. Gotta say even though I'm not collecting anymore I get the itch from time to time.
One word for me: Oversaturation
You are not wrong. There is just so much, some of the people I watch on UA-cam, like Robo, Toy Shiz, Dan Larson, I'm like how do they keep up?
@@Nintendad64 Like, how many versions of a certain character do we really need, right? Then there's the crossovers of two toy lines, just to keep milking the s*ckers.
TMNT might be the worst of them all at that. We have the Neca line, the playmates line, Loyal Subjects, Super 7, Mezco, then they cross over with MOTU, Transformers and WWE (probably others).
So, you grew up... and are still collecting...that's my takeaway.✌
Not far off.
