That microfracture surgery just robbed him of his athleticism and speed. He had to rely on his skills and IQ after that. He's one of the all time great what if cases, as is Tracy McGrady.
Imagine he played in this era of load mgmt and player empowerment when u don’t need to rush back to help the team win. You only return when you’re 110% ready n comfortable
Facts .Penny lethal midpost game and pen point passes always kept him relevant when he lost his explosiveness considering he came into the NBA with a Quality outside shot. Prime Penny was BlueMagic.
its crazy how similar their careers went in terms of production. 4 really great years then the rest of their star years hampered by injury leading to premature retirement.
nah his orlando years were his great years and then his first year in houston was great but from 05-06 til 07-08 he was good but not great anymore so more like 5 great years@@hw5091
Only if Phoenix waited 1 more years and pair Penny and Nash. Imagine…Nash, Penny, Marion, Tim Thomas and Stoudemire. Also I think, they should let Penny play the Point. The abilities he had to see the floor😮 Magic play him at the Point and he did great and he can score if he needs to. Even when Chuck Daly took over the Magic he still let Penny play the point. Teams(Suns and Heat) just misuse Penny after his surgery
TMAC...one of the greatest two guards to lace em up and an amazing scorer. The all around more skilled baller though...gotta give the nod to Penny in his young prime. He was a killer. A point guard killer.
The Phoenix Sun Penny was bigger but slower, lost his quickness. He was trying to be aggressive this game but lost it. TMac could shut down Penny with his bigger size and long arms. Penny went to the post more which would be his niche being a tall guard.
Problem w him was his body would start to tire and knees fail after that. He couldn't get in really good shape because his wheels couldn't handle the training. I watched his entire suns career, and he'd often start the season fairly well, and just go downhill from there.
Bro we been robbed of seeing something special from a couple of players because I almost got a starting five of superstar players who had what if careers. 1. D-Rose 2. Penny 3. Brandon Roy. 4. TMac and honorable mention Greg Oden.
I saw it live. He was unreal in the first quarter. However, I knew he'd start to Peter out after that, because he just couldn't keep it up w his failing body and also, failing confidence. The was probably his last hall of fame quarter of his career.
Went from nearly upsetting the #1 seed Pistons to 19 game losing streak. Orlando didn't know what they were doing. They did a terrible job surrounding they superstar with some pitbulls instead of a bunch of chihuahuas around him. Should've at least kept Darrell Armstrong they already traded away a guy who was coming into his own and was able to go get his own shot (Mike Miller)
@@jasonl4340The Magic FO made a dumbass move trading Mike Miller for Gordon Giricek during the 2003 season. That move led to them blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Pistons in the 2003 playoffs.
Tracy played against his idol with respect.

Exactly. He was so good. Never should have the surgery. He was the first player in the nba to get it.

@@jeronehaywood855 Kenyon Martin got it before him I think

@brianwatts5185 nah Penny had it first, Then Jamal Mashburn and Chris Webber

Tracy had 7 or 8, plus his first few younger years. Really had maybe 3-4 years taken by injuries. Hardaway had like 8 years taken by a failed body.

@hw5091 great point I remember that stint.
It's a shame we were robbed of something great with Penny hardaways knee surgeries.

wow ive never seen this whole game ...penny was cooking niggas ....how good would he have been in has prime healthy

3:43 Rookie Zaza wow
Those 2 almost played on the same team !
💪🏻👍🏻💪🏻
I never knew Stuff did that to the LIl Penny doll during the game. Even as late as 03-04 Penny was still living rent free in toxic Orlando’s head lol
19 GM losing Streak..
they fired Doc as well. 04 season was a tough one 😕

3:17 that was not an offensive foul though...
It’s a shame that both Penny and Tracy both succumb to microfracture knee surgeries on their knees.
1 vs 1 🏀
penny was king!! he could drop 40 point but
penny lost he's first step so slow just play he's bq
