- The Gasolina Perdigon is a pattern that has been around for a little while now and has been catching fish for guys. It was originally created by Tori Collins and then passed on to George Daniels who released it. Since Daniels has shared this pattern it has made to original color of the material practically impossible to find. I know there are a lot of purist guys out there who have to have the exact material the pattern calls for and if you can get your hands on it great. But if you can't then it's worthless. Learn to substitute. I say all the time, it is more important how you put the fly in front of the fishes face rather than what you put in front of its face. When I'm fishing a Perdigon it is usually in faster water and shouldn't spend much time in front of the fishes face and therefore shouldn't give the fish much time to scrutinize the exact color of the fly.
We try to keep the original color (PBM233) in stock when we can get it, but its hard for us to get. We carry this material is a few other colors too. Please go to www.holsingers... to see our selection. Give a different color a try on your stream, who knows it just might work better than the original. Thanks for watching!!!

You are such a good teacher. Not only the tying, but explanations on fishing the fly as well. I’m indebted and grateful. Till next time.
Thank you so much. It helps that I love what I get to do. I’m glad that I’m able to help.
Thanks for the New Supplies 🎉 ORDER Shawn, and for the Super Content !!!
✨🎣💫
I don’t say this enough; I enjoy your videos.
Thank you very much. Glad your like them
Well done.
I’ve been doing very well with that pattern. Great video Shaun as always learn so much from your video’s. See ya next Thursday!
Thanks a lot Chris. See you Thursday
Great pattern! Thanks Shawn
Thanks Scott. This one has definitely caught some fish around our area.
Shawn ….. FANTASTIC tutorial !!!!!!
Excellent philosophy on “ use what You Have !!! “. Genius and keeps it FUN 🤩!
I have yet to find the Original HENDS color Anywhere !!!!! Thanks for my last order and Have a Super New Season !!!!
Be Well,
Brian in NW Michigan
✨🎣💫
Thank you very much. We get the original color in every now and then. It's really weird. We always order every color when we order from them because it's such a hassle ordering from overseas. Often times we get every color but the original color and it is backordered. One time we received the original color and every other color was backordered. You just never know.
You always fill my orders ….. thank you for Maintaining Your Inventory !!!! That is Very Much Appreciated Shawn !!!!
That's a good one, Shawn.
Thanks James
I’ve been catching fish on the gasoline. Nice ‘bows, Little Red River, Arkansas.
I tie them with a black color, and now I aim to tie some with a hotspot.
I’ve clipped a bit of my own hair, palmered it, and caught fish.
Nice Perdigon Shawn tying some. keep your fingers crossed LOL
Thanks. You’ll be a convert before you know it. Are you coming to the symposium?
@@HolsingersFlyShop Yes. Hoping too. Will see you there.
@@lincolnparmer4098 great hope you can make it.
Nice fly shawn tight lines
Thank you very much
Once again Sean, great video. I appreciate how you always stress “use what you have.”
Thank you very much. I’m old school and have been tying for 30+ years now in my early days you had to “use what you have”. You didn’t have a fly shop at your fingertips and had half the material we have now. It’s just what you did.
Yes, use what you have because what it ends up being it’s just another version. Great fly thank you. I learn a lot from your tutorials.
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the videos
Thanks for the video - I have tied for years and have way too many materials around already so I agree with you 100% about using what you have 👍
Glad you liked it!! Experimenting with different materials is half the fun of tying for me
Howdy Sean, I have a lot of sulky Hollow shimmer colors greens blues reds I purchased at sewing shop. To me these colors look very similar to the hens. have you ever tried this material? Peace love the show
Years ago a buddy gave me some to try. I just remember trying it, not much more. If it works for you use it. I actually get stuff at the craft stores all the time. Thanks for watching
I have had great success with the Gasolina. I was able to bag some of the Heads 233 tinsel early on, but I can't say with confidence that it possesses special mojo that other materials lack. There is even some debate as to whether the color of the tinsel varies on the front and back sides as you wrap it, and whether you can even "ruin" the color if you stretch the tinsel too hard when you wind it. Hends sells the same color (their #233) as a flashabou product, as well as a foil, and none of them appear identical in color. As you pointed out, even the same material may vary in color from lot to lot. I will say this stuff changes hue depending on the angle of the light. As you mention, the color of the thread underneath also has a significant effect on this tinsel, and any other translucent product. Just to give credit where credit is due, the fly was actually invented by Spanish competition anglers. Torrey Collins, who manages Upcountry Sportfishing on the Farmington River in Connecticut apparently learned of the pattern and passed it on the George Daniel, who did his own video on it back in 2020. Any way, it is a great fly. I don't usually add a hot spot, which was not part of the original Spanish version, and it fishes great. I am finding wild fish on heavily pressured streams are less excited about hot spots than they were just a few years ago. You get stung by enough things with a bright orange or pink spot, you might not want to eat another one!
I stand by my statement that it is more important how you put a fly in front of a fish’s face than it is what fly you put in front of their face. Perdigons are not Stillwater flies when fished right should be traveling past the fish and not giving them the time to decide if the color of tinsel is correct for the pattern or not. Thanks for adding it came from the Spanish guys. I’m all for giving credit where credit it due.
