@Qui Thank you for your precise and quick reply. You are right; my settings were auto 360p. I set this to 1080p, which gave some improvement, but it's still hard to read the values. I don't have such problems with other videos, and have a very good graphics card and monitor. I also have good eyes. Regardless; thanks for doing what you can to help - keep up the good work.
It’s HD quality, check your settings in UA-cam if you are streaming the HD version . You can set that with the cogwheel at the bottom of the video. In HD mode I can read the values, so could you check that?
@Qui - As someone who is strongly considering the PA5X as my first arranger to complement a Yamaha Montage, I greatly appreciate your very thorough videos to get a good idea of the PA5X's capabilities. One question for someone unfamiliar with the arranger: could a Korg style setting be readily configured to utilize a voice on an external (MIDI-connected) keyboard or a VST voice resident on a connected computer?
Hi and thank you for your very helpful tutorials. The only issues I have is that half of the time I cannot see which buttons you press. The camera positions clearly shows the screen but the other controls can be difficult to make out. In my opinion it would be easier to follow if the camera was placed centrally so that all the buttons are visible as well as the screen.
Any idea why the style player stops on random notes? For instances, I'm playing a 4/4 chord progression with my left hand and using one of the styles. At random times, not always the same note, the player stops (the player light also goes from orange to white) when I have synchro start and stop enabled so that the accompaniment will stop when I stop playing. However, it stops when I AM playing, just on one note in the four, and almost always a different note. What I mean by stops is that I press the key down and the player cuts off abruptly. This does not sound like expected behavior. Bug perhaps?
Today I turned on the Pa5X and noticed that the styles are only playing the drum part. I look in the mixer and only Drums track is lighting up with the amber MIDI data present indicator. The rest of the tracks are dark. What could have caused this? None of the styles play anything but drum track now. I rebooted it again, thinking it corrupted on bootup, but it is still doing this.
yes, check the tutorial at 6:55, there it is explained how to do this. You can switch between your style/song/keyboard sets by pressing the grey right bottom button on your screen and then modify it in the bend tuning tab
Hi, First of all thank you for these wonderful videos. I do have 2 questions. I hope you will see my comment: 1/ I got my very first KORG PA5X and I have noticed that the factory styles are too much louder comapred to the factory keyboard sets. Some of the factory kb sets such as electric guitar are already at 127 ? Do you have the same issue ? 2/ How can we lower all the factory styles. I tried by lowering the player volume but when I power off and switch on back, the player volumes come back to 100. Do we have a way to save this or to change this in another way than changing each style level ? Many thanks 🙏🏽
yes, this was one of the first things I changed, all factory styles are using an EQ and limiter now and most of them have a raised level of 3-6 db. So to compensate for that you can set the default level to a lower value of your styles. To do this use the following steps: - press the settings button - press the preferences tab on screen - press the style subtab on the screen - in the bottom part of the screen you can set the style volume for bass, drums and ACC's, set them all to 100 and now the styles are having a good default volume compared to the keyboard sets. If you still find it to loud, then just lower that 100 value to for instance 90. The pa5x will remember this setting so everything will sound the same in the future. Also don't forget to watch my 5 awesome features video, feature 5 in that video describes a generic setting for the overall EQ and compressor for the current styles and will drastically improve the sound of your pa5x as a starting point.
@@quirobinez Thank you very much my dear friend I think what you mean here is what is given in page 184 (adusting the volume of grouped style sounds). I was going to try it and you confirmed it because I was not sure that it was going to remain after power off. As always, your videos are very much enjoyed. I take advantage of your experience with KORG Instruments to ask you a question. Are Wavestate sound files compatible with PA5? Thank you so much. Greetings from Argentina.
no you can't load wavestate files in the pa5x. What you can do is for instance using samplerobot and sample the synth of your choice and add those samples to the pa5x. you have 8 gigabyte space for that
Is it better to copy and then paste the style in the user and then you can modify what you want and save the style you have modified. Other wise this way is bit confusing.
if that works for you then definitely do it this way :), if you don't want to change the keyboard set you don't even have to copy it, all the edits shown in the video are stored in the songbook.
no, this is only if you want to change an existing style to your liking. Of course you can always just select one of the hundreds styles and save it directly to the songbook without any modifications. And if you decide to modify an existing style because you think you have a better idea then this is a procedure that you can follow. But it's definitely not needed if you don't want to. All the modifications apply immediately to the complete style by the way. You don't have to do this for each intro or variation. Also when you got some experience with this then within 2 minutes you have completed the whole process (most of the times even faster), but for the tutorial I used a very slow pace to explain what kind of decisions lead to the proces behind it. So don't get discouraged, it's a lot easier then you think once you have done it a few times.
Normally I would do that, but the songbook doesn’t store the currently active keyboard set, so that’s why you have to save it to a custom style so you can add the keyboard set to the style.
@@pawlikp100 indeed, in OS1.10 the current keyboard set (and the control settings of the style) aren't stored in the songbook. So that's why you have to add it to the keyboard set of the style. Hopefully they will change this in one of the next os updates.
Thanks for the videos! The Sonbgook is very faulty, I sent some email to Korg USA about some issues, in the meantime I found a lot of other ones. When you store a Style into Sgbook, it only saves the tones from Intro1 and the expression values from intro 1. If you then recall the style from Sgbook and press save Style, it saves permanently the style with the wrong tones and expresion values. Further more, if you change the style's name after saving in sgbook, ut breaks the link with the sgbook entry. After which, you cannot repair that entry because you cannot manually reasign the renamed style to that sgbook entry, you practically loose that sgbook entry for good, with adiacent keyboard sets and other settings... And there' more and more. Please, help making KORG aware of this issues so they can be fixed. All my work is based on working with Songbook, I live in Romania (soryy for my poor english), I'm in the risk of not being able to do my job because of this sort of errors, not mentioning the price of the unit. Upgraded from Pa3X, very frustrated from a huge list of Os issues. If I were living in Italy, I would throw the Pa5x through factory window in a live transmission. That's the level of frustration from a happy Pa3X user to an angry Pa5X user. HELP!
Here are some tips how to use the Pa5X songbook, it's very different compared to the Pa4X. Here is how it works at the moment (and i really hope they improve this songbook feature): 1: when you save a song in a song book you are basically saving a reference pointer by localion/name to a style/midi file or mp3 backing track. This is a really important difference. Because when you rename or move a style / midi file or song, then the songbook link is broken, because the name can't be found anymore. Although i do understand why they did this (since we have now unlimited space for styles, songs and mp3 files), it's impossible to give them a unique id and find them somewhere. But in the older PA models you have limited space for storing styles so they were always on the same location (unless you loaded different styles in the user area after you stored in a songbook, then that song would be broken also) 2: not everything is saved in the songbook This is also really different compared to the older models. I think this feature is not finished yet in OS1.10, For instance the mixer tab is saved in your song, but the control tab is not saved (seems like a missing feature to me). Also the active keyboard set is not stored in the songbook. You have to save it to the style. 3: since the songbook is a pointer by reference to a style, this means that you have to be carefull if you change keyboard sets and pads in a style. For instance, when you are using the same style for two songs and you save a new keyboard set or pads to your style for a specific song, then the keyboard sets and pads are also changed in all other songs that are using the same style. I do understand that it works that way, because songs are by reference to the unlimited amount of styles. But it's something a lot of the users do not know or understand. Solution It's easy to solve by saving the style again with that specific song name. Then it's unique for that song and since we have now unlimited space for styles, that shouldn't be a problem. It's just a different way of working with styles. You could add a new bank in the styles section for that with for instance the name MYSONGS.
@@george249 agree, these aren't stored in the songbook (that was a really strong point in the pa4x, there it worked flawlessly), the way i use it is to change the sound in the sound edit mode and save that to a new sound location and add that in a new keyboard set. Then i can use it in the song again. But it's rather strange that you have to do it that way now. I hope they will add that functionality to the songbook again in the next os.
