    Exactly what I needed as the control is similar to if not the exact one on my boat. The throttle and shift cables on this 2003 need lubrication which I plan to do by forcing penetrating oil under low air pressure as seen in another good UA-cam video. Thanks a lot Tom!

      Glad the video helped for your project! If you’re all the way in there I would highly recommend replacing the cables altogether. About $100 for nice 3300 style cables. I’ve never seen old cable get any better…they usually just get worse with time!

      @@tomspontoons Good idea. Hadn't realized replacements were that inexpensive. The control cables run under the deck from the CC. I'm hoping I can remove/install without running into hangups or entanglements. Thanks again.

      @@fartherstill always plan on it being more difficult than you want it to be! But worth it to do it once and not worry for another 20 years!

      @@tomspontoons Funny you should mention that. Played he!! getting the 20 year old plastic top cover off. Had to use a Dremel to turn one of the phillips heads into a slotted screw. Then found the old plastic wasn't as pliable as it was in its youth and refused to squeeze enough to free it from the detents. A bar clamp helped but there was some breakout in the detent holes. Fixable though ($38 for a replacement, nope.) Pulled the control and lo and behold, the screws fastening the u-shaped casting covering the plastic dust cover were installed by a power lifter who seemed a big fan of permanent Loctite! Drilled off the heads and removed the bracket. Got out the shop vac and cleaned up the metal chips. Just as I was getting ready to attach some pull wires to follow the old cables out it began to pour. The good news, the Teleflex part nos. were marked on the cable and with everything disassembled it was apparent these cables are way, WAY beyond saving no matter how well lubricated so they had to be replaced.

    that is the same 704 control unit i have and asked about fitting on the small console on the console install video!

      @tomspontoons  10 місяців тому +2

      Yes, it'll fit in most situations as long as the steering wheel is average size (13" to 14").

    Good evening, Where did you buy the cables.

      Hey Juan! Great question…we most commonly use Teleflex cables, and for Yamaha outboards you’ll need a 3300 style cable. Similar to what’s in the link below, but for the correct length needed on your boat. Hope this helps!
