    Ha!! I super knew you would do this!! As it came up on the round table and more and more people in chat asked about it ...then you touched on the aquarium controllers ...I knew it was on!! You never disappoint sugar! 💚 3 minutes in and I can't wait to see how it goes! (Not to mention I'm totally enamored with the way you say peristaltic😍)

    super bad ass! in such a small test tank I'm surprised you got it to settle! I could imagine slowing down the pumps with lower voltage (essentially what diluting did) would help with control for some folks.

    Built the same one with identical parts and cost me about 350$ CAD total (Half the price of the Bluelab controller), just got it set up and doing a test run but so far so good. I opted for a 30:1 mixture because it was using so much of the 50:1 solution. Next step is setting up 5 gallon pales with PH up and PH down solutions and wiring up a float switch to shut off the controller when the solution runs out to prevent the pumps from burning out.

    • @mackenziewood4619
      @mackenziewood4619 3 роки тому +5

      9 hours later and it's working perfectly, it kicks on once every 9 hours when the PH gets to 6.02 (high setting) and brings it back down to my low setting (5.81) in about 30 seconds without using much solution at all.

    Using similar skills and components, you could make a flow battery for high energy backup storage.. pair it with some solar, wind or hydro power and you've got a complete energy solution. Not only would you have backup power, but you could take your entire operation off the grid.

    • @DCP33
      @DCP33 Рік тому

      Very well Ken. If I knew how to post a pic I would lol I tried a couple different ratios for both PH up and down and landed on 20:1 for both. I have a 75 gal res feeding 8 25 litre totes (ea holding approx 15 litres) RDWC. Works good but I wish there was a way to pause after a dosing to give the entire system a chance to adjust.

    • @DCP33
      @DCP33 Рік тому

      If someone could design and build an affordable system that doses ph up/down and ec that would be amazing. For EC you could have a target with a ratio mixture from 4 or 5 peristaltic pumps. For example if you were looking for an ec of say 1.2 it would dose the desired ratio ie 60% from peri 1, 20% peri 2, and so on. I think you have the know how to build this.

    Just an observation for what it's worth; Try putting the probe back on the other end of the tank and increase the sample rate of the controller. In process control of this type you generally don't need a PID, just a PI or a straight proportional control. But give the dose time to effect the whole tank and get mixed in by increasing your sample rate.

    Thankful for this video. Helpful in my research on building flower room aeroponic systems with off the shelf components. Aeroponics would for sure need some guy or gal checking the PH of reservoirs on a constant basis, unless you can PH automation. EC does not fluctuate as much as PH in hydro, so unless it is on a larger scale, I think a lot of DIY full flower aero set ups can run fine with just PH auto control. Eventually I want to have both, but I just don't operate on a large enough scale to make the EC auto control nearly as important as PH.

  • @nikushim6665
    @nikushim6665 2 роки тому +3

    shaking ph solution isn't gonna matter. Its just phosphoric acid and potassium carbonate, they wont "settle out". Issue with the pinpoint controller in general is there isn't a adjustable delay. Those units were mainly designed for Co2. Making something like this out of arduino wouldn't be difficult, you would just have to source for some decent pH probes. You also have to keep in mind those probes have a limited life most of them are only rated for like a year of use.

    instead of giving it such a small window as the 5.9-6.1 would opening the window to around lets say 5.7-6.3 to turn the dosage pumps on less barely using any ph up? Or even better 5.5-6.1 as most waters in the states have high ph. The window for the 5.5 will allow enough ph down to be dumped without having the ph up kick on and fight each other. I noticed with my water the ph will drop to around 5.5-5.8ish then always rise to 6.0 just because it has to get fully mixed in. I believe when you further diluted the mixture its essentially "widening" the window but from the mixture as it has more time to gradually change the ph of the water saying within the (+-)1 rather than giving a larger window so it can fully mix in the res and give a "correct" ph value not the value of the "ph swing". Just some thoughts, I try and use the bare minimum of ph up/down cause it can through nute ratios off! Love the vid!

    • @GrowMau5
      @GrowMau5  8 років тому +1

      you are absolutely right! just simply opening up the window to 5.8-6.2 made a world of difference & no more YOYO effect.

    I think systems running this type of PH auto control should consider using small circulation pumps, in addition to air stones, for greater circulation of the up and down chemicals. I see that one of the issues in these tests is that the added up or down solution is not circulation fast enough.

    If the aquarium your first test run was done in was straight RO water, could the rapid fluctuation be a result in the lack of anything to buffer the PH? My guess would be if you repeated the test using the nutes you would be running in your res, a more concentrated PH +/-, your readings would not be as rapid or variant.

  • @FramedProductions

    How long do you think the tubing in those valves will last? I imagine having pH down running through there even at a diluted level could be acidic enough to cause damage over time. Simple enough to just pull and replace a pump though. Nice setup!

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 8 років тому +1

      John Othic the tubing in those pumps should be silicone... pretty inert. if there is an issue (after a while the tubing does wear out from the squeezing motion) the pumps I've seen are operable and you can put a new length of tube in, essentially rebuilding it in comparison to a piston pump.

    nice video. Are you aware that air bubblers raise ph levels naturally? Adding air to the water removes carbon dioxide or carbonic acid; water + carbon dioxide; effectively removing acid from the water increasing ph levels. If you use a more nontraditional method of aeration; water fall 12" or more, you will find you will only add ph once and th ph will not drift any further and your water will be aerated without loss of acid, saving money on ph up. I am also working on an automatic ph system using arduino. I have completed code, just not starting any testing yet. have you considered adding a third persistolic pump to add just water to your mix before adding to the tank?I I like the automatic ph systems. namaste

      Avid Lerner I was just thinking about doing this using one of those. Did you test your code yet and is it on github? I am thinking about writing something similar.

    What CCT would you recommend for one of your four led kits for a complete grow?

    ph down is potent af. 1 drop will drop 20 liters from 7 to 3.
    I'd use lemon concentrate and baking soda.
    And that very sparingly.

      what u need is a window like ph up from 4.5 to 5.8 and ph down from 7 to 5.8.
      And only once a day. Doesnt need to continuous.
