@@johng3451 Thank you kind patriot! I am but a simple man.... Killer podcast with great longevity and conditioning tips for not just fighters, but for anyone who is disciplined with their own conditioning and strives for feeling good and being in good shape---Excellent insight/advice in many ways Mr SONNEN. I really respect your honesty with your thoughts on your opponents, current and past.
This was really good to hear. I'm 32 and about to take my first fight. This gives me hope that I'll still have ten years of competition ahead of me still 👍
Such a natural, you should give out motivational recordings whether you want to good things or bad things. You're so in between it ain't funny, but it's so great Mr. Sonnen.
More interesting than most of your videos because you give inside knowledge I didn't know, like that lots of the fighters mostly only train for specific fights. Not sure it's 100% true but it's really interesting and I know it must be partly true. Thank you.
Chael is the freaking man! I’ll be honest I was new to mma when he was first facing Silva but he immediately became my favorite entertainer and my second favorite stylistic fighter behind Machida only because I wrestled in high school and gained mad respect for anyone who can stop that level of wrestling
Randy is hands down my favorite fighter of all time. And the older I get the more I stand in awe at his dedication and accomplishments What I love about Chael is he's real . Dramatic when he's selling a fight Absolutely love that side. But he can talk about donating 50 grand like its nothing. Then he will talk about taco bell and 7 layered burritos 😆
I love that chael is as open as he is “I had some goodies to take care of that, there was some new rules, they got rid of that” I’m paraphrasing but it’s refreshing to hear someone be honest and I know chael obviously has been that way about peds for a good long while now but still
I'll never forget when Chael mauled Wanderlei, I've never been so pumped when he raised his hand in victory. My favorite fight and textbook Old Chael where he just kicks your ass and makes you look foolish. G.O.A.T.
I hate the internet sometimes but I really like videos like this where we get to see the true person it helps us see them as real people and not just a celebrity, asshole etc
This is the inside track on what it take's to keep in shape at a high level, you live you learn .I know Chael trained with GSP and he has a different philosophy which works for him but different people different motivation .This is interesting good move coming down in weight, Chael isn't a heavyweight ,great to hear how training is going .
Great insight from chael as always . It really makes you think that weight cutting in camp for some guys is too the point where they forget why they lose weight for fights. To my knowledge no mma fighter has ever been forced to wear boxing gloves in the cage yet when moving up weight class it seems lots of fighters are forgetting the benefits of boxing glove and weighted vest.
i hope it was a weight issue you getting hit more and not an age issue. i like you chael as a person and love listening to you. certainly root for you in this fight. hope you get out when age does catch up though. your a bright guy dont risk your mind functions.
By the Taco Bell I couldn’t focus on a pool shot to stay down that well. After a week of strict diet, you’ve helped me understand where my focus wanes now. Thanks. Also cardio. And 45 minute workouts.
I think this whole 22 minute video was Chael's way of feeling justified to eat taco bell using his audience. You don't need anyone's permission. You'll always be our champ!
Chael you prob don’t see these but . I just watched a rerun bellator fight you vs Silva 👍 your wrestling is top notch . I was using it to show my son the difference in takedowns at will (you) and absolutely no answer (Silva) . Great work . Good fight . Damn I wish you beat Tito’s big head . Either way , you are a beast my son who is 13 Been wrestling 4 yrs loves watching you as do I .
It's the same as GSP. He'd always be in the gym working out. Granted he has retired earlier on but GSP managed to be so great for so long because of his smarter approach
I totally agree that training consistently and staying near 'fight condition' all year long, will prevent a lot of 'wear and tear' from getting out of shape and back into shape repeatedly. Then, the training period for a fight will be focused primarily on fight strategy and technique as opposed to having to concentrate on cutting weight.
I turned down being on the ultimate fighter because it was a summer camp basically and was never, ever signed to UFC. Undefeated heavyweight right here. Del Ray Florida. Sign the liability.
Haha! I've said it a thousand times, I could listen to this guy all day. Amazing to find out Chael likes taco bell, I thought only stoners ate that haha! I was there today funny enough I like the taco & crunch wrap supreme, but I will definitely be trying the seven layer with steak next time. Chael just gave taco bell a huge plug. On another note, Machida is certainly a huge threat. I'm a big fan of both of you guys, I'd been doing Judo for years & remember when Machida first came to the UFC. I was amazed, up to that point the sport was dominated by wrestlers, kickboxers & bjj guys. You hardly ever saw Karate guys excel in MMA, but there he was, winning fights with Karate. I was blown away & extremely curious, so I took up Shotokan just to have an idea of how it works. Man let me tell you, the timing is strange, the foot work is strange, the stance is strange but after four months I felt like I was starting to understand it. So I'm sparring at the tapout gym in DTLA & I decide to try some of this Shotokan I've been learning. I was giving dudes black eyes & putting them on their asses with one shot! This is important, in Shotokan style competitions one shot means victory. It's a bare knuckle style of fighting with heavy emphasis on evading until there is one crucial exchange where there is one Victor in one shot. Machida will circle around the cage, keep his hands low & immediately lunge forward with a straight punch. If you chase him he will come with a front kick. Shotokan is a linear style, keep your guard up, defense will be your best offense. Make this fight ugly, pressure all the way, to win you will need to out wrestle him. Decision will be a more likely road to victory, but ground & pound is certainly an option. Good luck Chael!
The game we always played was dodgeball at the end. Lemme tell you what every single person in that wrestling room worked themselves to the bone when that game was promised
This man gave us 21 minutes of exposition to tell us that he ordered himself a nice 7 layer burrito, added steak, and enjoyed it.
