I have a lot of respect for Dom. This sport has a history of the whole “tough guy mentality” and it takes courage to say that you’re gonna take care of your own health even if it means you can’t fight for a while

If you're in it to win it, you're in it for number one.
Aggression gets our attention, but longevity always beats brevity in a game that never ends.
I'd say being selfish now, so you can hurt people for a longer period of time - is still 'tough guy', just scarier because he has a plan.
      Lots of respect.

I hope all fighters will take Max Holloway's advice when it comes to sparring. Remember that a lot of brain damage accumilates more from sparring than in the octagon. Guys have to be careful with the heavy sparring. Always spar lightly and when you get enough experience, just drop sparring completely.

I love Masvidal but he should wait a year as well. I didn’t feel uncomfortable with what Reyes said, I admire it. I’d rather see these fighters live their lives healthy and happy after their careers as opposed to the gold and glory. I understand the business they’re in but they’ve got families as well. DC said it himself, with severe head damage like Ortega has taken, Stipe, Joanna, Weili, Dan Hooker in his fight with Dustin, when you take that kind of damage it takes some of you away that you can’t get back. You need to rest and let yourself recover for about a year, if you don’t, you walk back in there, take a shot that you’d normally eat and suddenly you’re wobbling or knocked out. Look at Tony, he didn’t take a full year off and has been on quite the losing streak. It matters. Reyes should take that time off.

About people who "want to be here" [on the octagon] I always remember Renzo´s telling a story where he was on the backstage with other fighters. One said "I would like to be with my family", the other replied "I would rather be on the beach". And he said: "You're kidding? There's no other place in the world I would rather be". Is this true? Anyone have their opinion. But is undeniable that a lot of fighters don't want to fight. They do it only for the money. If they could, they would do something else.

Besides if all fighter's were financially stable we'd see less fights a year than boxing lol.

You felt uncomfortable because to watch MMA or Boxing you need to block out (at least temporarily) the fact that these guys are causing long-term damage to their brains. Otherwise, can a person justify watching an event in which two men have the intention of knocking the other guy out or removing them from consciousness in any other way? Dom simply brought an uncomfortable truth to the forefront. Btw, this also goes for sports like American Football (for the non-Americans watching this), Rugby, Hockey, etc.

I think this is a great idea for Dominic. He was coming off back to back losses from Blachowicz and Jiri. It can give him time to recover (physically, mentally, spiritually), add/remove things from his fighting arsenal, change his coaching if need be, and family/finances. Finally, I thought that UFC medical or Mr. Reyes medical team would say he couldn't complete until 2022.

American Football also has a known CTE impact, higher then soccer. But's it's a national sport in which a lot of money goes around, so the risks to players are deemed 'acceptable'.
